I'm having some friends over for a Premier Designs jewelry party on Saturday. The party starts at 4 PM. I'm thinking that I need to do heavy snacks since it will be during dinner time.
I was thinking of having funeral sandwiches, deviled eggs, chips & dip, broccoli salad and maybe a German chocolate cake for dessert. What do you think? At least one fried who's coming is diabetic.

Should I offer more in the way of beverages? I was thinking of iced tea and water. We don't do a lot of soft drinks at our house.

There's a lot of carbs there for a person with diabetes. I'd suggest adding more vegetables, do carrot/zucchini/celery sticks and low fat dip (perhaps a salsa type dip)instead of chips and dip, and as already suggested add fresh fruit as well.

I was at a crop a couple of weekends ago and my hostess had mini quiches that she bought from GFS (a little like Sam's or Costco). Those were surprisingly tasty.

I would have a few more healthy options. Maybe a veggie tray, green salad and some fruit.

I would have a veggie platter and fresh fruit option. I would also do an easier, no utensil dessert like cookies or brownies.

For a home party, I'm a very light eater, even if it fell over the dinner hour (usually I'm still going to go home and cook for my family). I also prefer finger foods since you are juggling a catalog/order form. I would probably have veggies and dip, fruit, cheese and crackers (you could add meat and add buns if you want something more substantial), and dessert - probably a bar and cookie. Hope you have a successful party!

I've been to a few Premier Jewelry parties, and I'm thinking they lasted a couple of hours. I would do beverages and a couple of light appetizers. I think you're going overboard.

Like the PPs, I would definitely add another salad and/or a vegetable platter. And if you're not interested in buying soda, perhaps offer Lemonade? It's a know-your-crowd thing, but maybe coffee or tea as well? Sounds like it will be a lot of fun.

I would think if it starts at 4, it would be over by 6 at the absolute latest, and most people will go home and have dinner with their families. I think light appetizers are fine. Personally, I might have a small bite or two of something to tide me over til dinner, but I would not eat heavy appetizers right before dinner time.

I would go lighter with finger foods. Sam's & Costco should sell a prosciutto cream cheese type roll-up or something similar. A plate with celery sticks, carrots, various cheeses A fruit plate (strawberries, grapes, pineapple chunks)

When I go to a party like this I prefer light finger foods. Cheese & cracker trays, veggies tray with dip, small heat & eat apps, etc. I would personally skip the funeral sandwiches.

I always like hot appetizers, something you buy frozen from Costco and heat up in the oven.

Definitely add a cheese and cracker tray--maybe even add some sort of meat to it like salami or summer sausage. Veggies and dip are good too. The key is to have food that people can make a meal of in case they're really hungry since it's dinnertime. Make sure you include some hot appetizers.

Yeah, I agree with the others. Funeral sandwiches too heavy for that time of day, etc... More snackie stuff like cheese tray, etc... And for SURE wine.
