I don't care for her. A local news reporter was once supposed to interview her because she was in the area. Something got messed up with the scheduling and they weren't able to do the interview. I don't remember specifics but the reporter wrote in her blog that Rachael Ray was a different and not so nice person when the cameras weren't on her. I know a journalist who had an in-depth interview scheduled, and when Rachael Ray got there, she decided she didn't like him, didn't like the location, didn't like the questions, and just said, "No, I'm not doing this." He had a podcast and was very vocal about how incredibly unpleasant she was. My friend lived/worked in Las Vegas and interviewed absolutely every celebrity you can imagine, so when he says Rachael Ray was the worst, I believe him. (For comparison, he was surprised to be completely charmed by Liza Minelli, and only Jason Alexander was ever as rude as Rachael Ray.)
I didn't like her *before* that incident. The voice, the personality, the EVOO nonsense, the recipes -- heck, I don't even like the color of her kitchen set. Orange does not trip my zizz wheel.
Giada's recipes always work for me -- I've never tried one and thought, "Nope, not makin' that again." Everything of hers just works -- melon salad, pork chops pizzaiola, baked mashed potatoes, there was a fish dish in foil with vegetables that was just delicious. Ina Garten cracks me up because her dishes look and sound delicious, but they're *so* *expensive*!!!! Anne Burrell's recipes are always winners for me (and she's just such a great *teacher*), but every once in a while she'll throw in an ingredient that's just crazy expensive, like fennel pollen or four pounds of fresh spinach. Go look see how much 8 ounces of spinach costs. Figure out how much of that you have to buy to make four *pounds*. It's crazy expensive, Anne! Stop that!
