DH has been in the hospital since Thursday morning for really tough cancer treatment. I brought him home this afternoon and fabulous neighbor brought FOUR different kinds of homemade bars to us with her love. Also, he had two different roommates in the hospital whose families could not have been kinder or more respectful of his need for quiet. On the other hand, DH's family can suck it. Not one person offered me help, sent a card, or much less flowers. Not even his own mother, whom I drive to church every Sunday. ETA freebird I'm sorry you've been let down by people today. I love you and your posts!

I have a wonderful friend who is in treatment for leukemia. During her hospital stay, she wrote a grant to get medical equipment that helps to prevent those painful mouth sores. She is such an inspiration!

My Dh's niece and 3 friends were in a car accident this weekend. A car cut them off, spun them around a couple of times, and another car T-boned them before they stopped. Many people stopped to help. They were so grateful, and kept saying over and over how they could not believe so many people stopped. Then my sister who does not even know them, spent almost 7 hours driving them between picking one up at the hospital, the tow yard, their hotel, back to the tow yard, and back to their hotel. There are many more good people than we think.

I evidently dropped my MP3 player in the garage last Saturday night while I was getting my stuff out of the car, because on Sunday morning when I went down, someone had balanced it on my door handle so I'd see it when I got in.

My iphone slipped out of my pocket when I went to the post office to pick up our mail. Since the window was closed at noon, someone put it with the little collection of lost mittens by the door. When the window was opened at 12:30, someone brought it to the window so that someone wouldn't just walk out with it. When I discovered that my phone was missing at about 3:00, I went there hoping to find it and sure enough they had my phone.

There was a huge fire today at a dog kennel. Numerous other kennels stepped in to take any survivors and offered transport to any vets for dogs that needed treatment. Unfortunately many dogs were lost.

Back in December, the father of one of ds' teachers was diagnosed with leukemia and given a very short time to live. This same teacher had lost her mother to cancer three years ago. The students who run the school store chipped in and bought her a beautiful bouquet of flowers. She told me at conferences how much that simple gesture meant to her at the time, as well as their ability to keep the store running smoothly over the next month and a half when she often wasn't there physically or mentally.

My mom and dad live on a corner lot. They are the "old folks" in the neighborhood. They are in their 70s. Their neighbors have taken care of their driveway and sidewalks every snowstorm this year.
My dad sold me his car for far less than he could have gotten for it. He really wasn't even in the market to sell his car I don't believe, but he knew I was in dire need of one.

I just watched my Mother say goodbye to her best friend at her casket. Boy was it a reminder of love, charity, service and friendship. When I think about the trials that each of them went trough and the fact that they supported each other along the way. It gives me chills to know that people can have so much love in them after everything life throws at them. (death of a child, alcoholism, teenager placing a baby for adoption, having retirement stolen) jen

The National Honor Society t-shirts at DS' school for this year read:
BElieve THEre is GOOD in the world
I love this so much. It's kind of my mantra when I start to think people suck, as well as a reminder to be the good.

It's kind of my mantra when I start to think people suck, as well as a reminder to be the good. Wow! I love this. It completely made my day! Thank you for sharing this wonderful thought. I teach, and every day and I have some students who I just know are going to grow up to make the world a better place. There are good people everywhere, and there are good kids who are growing up to be good, kind adults.

This isn't anything like the stories above, but last night, we went to dinner at a very busy restaurant. We walked in and looked around to see if there was an empty table available in the open seating area by the bar. We looked around, and there were no open tables, so we walked over by a wall to discuss what we wanted to do. A guy sitting with someone in a bar booth walked up to me and said, "I noticed you were walking around and did not have a buzzer. We got a seat in the bar area." At that point, he handed me his buzzer and said they had been there at least 20 minutes, so that 20 minutes less that we would have to wait if a bar table did not open up. He went and sat down, then came back and said, "Oh, and your name is Kim, party of 2". LOL We only stood there for about another 15 minutes before it buzzed. We would have been there for at LEAST an hour if he hadn't done that for us.

During the last snow storm in Arkansas, my niece and her boyfriend saw an older couple who were stuck in the snow near their house. He went out and helped the couple get the car back to their house (she is quite pregnant so didn't help). Then they convinced the couple to spend the night with them instead of trying to get through the storm back to their own house. They spent the night and left the next day when they road plow came through.
Yesterday the couple came by and dropped off several boxes of diapers, wipes, clothes and a nice gift card for my DN and her BF.

I sure hope it's the latter but if not then there's good people everywhere. Freebird, I'm sorry your having a bad time with humanity today. {{hugs}} Friday they guy next to me at lunch bought lunch for a table full of elderly ladies then snuck out before they found out. He didn't do anything directly for me but he sure made my day!

One more: we had a record snowfall in the beginning of February. My ds was leaving a friend's house 2 or 3 days later when main roads were clear, but side roads were still pretty bad. He saw a man with his middle school aged child in the car stuck in the snow. DS pulled over and he and the dad pushed the car out of the snow. In a world where it seems like people do good things so they can post on social media and receive validation, my son never posted a word about it. He did it because it was the right thing to do, not for any special recognition.

Mum and I were at the Melanoma Institute in Sydney a couple of weeks ago. Obviously being there is not good but....
We did not encounter a single person who wasn't helpful, pleasant and generally awesome. We saw several world class specialists that day, and obviously there were many more in the building we didn't see and there was not a single ego to shadow our experience. Amazing group of people.

I have another one...for years my dad helped out an older couple he met in their community. They became friends making maple syrup together. Fast forward 20 years and their WONDERFUL son has been taking my dad ice fishing this winter. My dad has advanced Parkinson's disease and has lost the ability to do most his beloved outdoor activities. This amazing man picks dad up on his four wheeler, drives him to the ice fishing shack, which he has preheated, baits dad's hook, removes fish from the hook, and even cleans the fish. I am weeping as I share this. Without him, dad would not be able to fish this winter.
My siblings and I all live about 120 miles away from our parents. We've been brainstorming how we can show our appreciation for this angel on earth.

Awe, I hope you change your mind about that. Both of my (adult) children ended up moving in with DH and me. We were newlyweds at the time and DH loves spending alone-time with me, so this changed everything! DS24 was just coming off of serious drugs when he moved in with us. Turned out that DH became his mentor and DS is now thriving (a year later). He went to N.A. because of DH, he got healthy, and got a job. Within a very short time, he got offered a manager's position. He had such low self-esteem because of everything he had been thru, but DH really, really helped him, every single day. I am blessed. DH isn't in such great health, so this took a lot out of him, but my son appreciates him and loves him like crazy!!
Now I'm facing major surgery this Friday and I have my DH's love and support, and my kids beside me, and they're responsible adults now (finally). So, there are some good people in this world, and they could change people's lives and impact them so deeply. Have faith. Not everyone is a rotten egg.

Beautiful thread!
Guys from dh work had a benefit for him Friday night. People were very very generous. We didn't go because his Immunity was very low. Our teens went with aunts and uncles. They had a 50/50 drawing. People kept coming up to them with strips of tickets - one guy bought $200 worth and handed his end to our kids so we would receive all the money if he won.
There were 50+ baskets for a Chinese auction. People showed up at the door with baskets. even quite a few people who didn't attend contributed money, time or goods.
The organizers went into this expecting to raise a particular amount. There were maybe 100 less in attendance than hoped for but 1/3 more $ raised than anticipated.
We are overwhelmed by people's support.
