I've seen numerous references here about the Altoona police. I honestly never wondered how that got started, until tonight.
I was watching Forensics Files or something like that where they go over past crimes and show how it was solved with the use of forensics. The show was about a couple that went away for the weekend and never returned. The police had no clues as to their disappearance other than the fact that a few people saw them hook up with another couple while they were in line to get into a popular club.
The investigation stalls until police get a silent alarm alert that a Hooters is being robbed. As they are processing the couple, man and wife, from the robbery, they discover the missing couple's drivers licenses.
As more and more clues are found, it is determined that this married couple has murdered the missing couple. They both claim the other started everything and did the killings, it is finally learned that after the couple were killed in the bathroom of the killers, the wife goes to get cleaning supplies to remove the evidence of the murder. She returns to her husband sitting in the hot tub of their room along with the severed heads of the murdered couple. Very gross and strange. Then they say the couple had no prior records of any kind and were the owners of a scrapbook store in......Altoona Pennsylvania!!!
Is that where this reference came from? The Altoona couple that owned a scrapbook store? The murderers that hot tubbed with severed heads?
I had to come find out if that is how it started or if it was just a very weird coincidence.

I think the married couple killers happened after the Altoona references at two peas. Was there a pea someone was concerned about? Suicidal? Another pea contacted the Altoona police because that's where they lived? I could be off on that one. Or was it the pea that faked their death that lived in Altoona?

I'm glad I'm not the only pea that saw that show! I sat up when they said the couple owned a scrapbook store and I said "what the..." and there was only the dog in the bedroom with me. I figured someone could look that up on a spread sheet if no one remembers.
If it was a coincidence, what a strange one, huh?

I think it was before my time, but wasn't it the pea whose husband "found" a giant scrap tote full of supplies in an empty house, and peas caught on to her scamming the board and she threatened to call the Altoona police?
One of the morning news shows always gives the temp/weather for Altoona, PA and it makes me giggle.

Wasn't the Altoona police thing part of the Lady Stars debacle?

I'm terrible with my pea lore, so I may be wrong.

Lady Stars sounds right - I get my pea scandals confused and all mixed up together sometimes.

I was on hiatus during the whole Lady Stars business. I don't know anything about it. I wish we had kept all the old famous threads for times like this. I can't imagine those murders not being discussed on here. Surely we have a pea who shopped that store.

It didn't have anything to do with the "die-cutters" as my DH and I call them. The Lady Stars thing sounds right - doesn't that go along with I'm going to "sew" (sue) you?
Back to that couple from Altoona - my friend and I used to shop there. They were indeed creepy, although her parents were very nice. We stopped going when we found out there was often a snake in a cooler behind the counter - just icked us out.

I'm pretty sure it was lady Stars...she was always claiming to be so poor, not a crust of bread to eat nothing to feed her kids etc. Quite a few people on the board sent her gifts or money one Christmas too - and I think she was caught selling some of those on eBay.
Not sure exactly what happened next, but I think it was one of her outlandish claims/scams and when she got called out by someone on the board...as a reply and to prove her "innocence" she said that she had made a report to the Altoona police and if someone didn't believe her that they should contact the Altoona police department and they would back up her story and prove to everyone she wasn't lying.
She kept posting about the Altoona police and how they could prove she was telling the truth. Possibly someone even called and they either didn't get an answer or they said there had never been any reports made and they had never heard of this woman (can't remember exactly what happened)
As a result, after that whenever something suspect happens on the board someone usually posts "call the Altoona police!"
ETA: just as mentioned above she was definitely going to "sew" someone for defamation of character. it was on a Thrusday I think

Farther back than Ladystars even. There was this crazy woman who used to buy torn bear paper piecings from EBAY. She would drive up the price like crazy. She would pay $200+ for these bears. The peas noticed it was the same woman buying them and a thread got started. As usual the woman showed up on the thread and the pile on began. She threatened to sew everyone and to file harassment charges with the Altoona police. It was classic two peas drama. She claimed she was wealthy and could afford whatever she wanted, posted pictures of her fancy watch and home. It was classic.

Huh- I thought the Altoona police was a pea posting about being suicidal, so someone on the NSBR board contacted the Pea Powers That Be who pulled up the poster's computer info, found out she was in PA, and called the Altoona police to check on her. I guess that's how urban legends are born.
(sorry- I just realized that's quite a long run-on sentence!)
Did someone save the Altoona thread here on the History board?

Actually, it was Lady Stars who coined Thrusday. She said it was something cute her ds used to say, so she had a weekly thread every Thursday and called it Thrusday. I called it a clever way to up your post count and get people to recognize you and feel a connection in a short amount of time.

I remember Tear Bear Lady because she used to post on eBay boards, and that is when I first registered at two peas because many of us there went to twopeas to read more about the drama. Links were posted. Her Disney trips, her fabulous house, etc. She spent crazy amounts of money on those bears.
But I don't remember anything about Altoona (there is also one in the Midwest). I remember she lived in NJ.
ETA I don't think she herself posted there regularly, but I think she showed up there. In any case there was a very amusing thread about her there that led to the drama here.

Ladystars was Thrusdays, didn't have any money and kept trying to get peas to give her stuff Torn bears lady was going to sew us, showed us her house, and used the word ransorish (I think that was the spelling) Torn sunsets looked like a ladypart
death faker was Sass? Altoona was... can you believe I don't remember 100%, but I know we threatened to call the Altoona police quite a bit after that.

OMG, I remember the vagina sunset layout posted in the gallery. Such good memories, LOL. I do recall the Altoona police, but I don't know if I even knew about the torn bears. It's all making me realize just how much time I've spent here over the years, and that is both amazing and crazy!

Haha, before we moved we would have to drive past Altoona to get back to MI. I used to crack up every single time we would pass that giant Altoona sign on the highway. I always thought of the Peas when we would make that drive. . I once tried to explain to my husband why I was laughing and he looked at me like I had 17 heads.

I've seen that Forensic Files episode, too, and it makes me so sad. Those poor people did absolutely nothing to deserve what happened to them.

Check out the History of the Peas board - some of this is on there, maybe buried in this thread? infamous hairflipsOK well according to that thread I remembered some of it incorrectly. Lady Stars wasn't the Altoona police lady after all - that was Mrs Diesel and a child spanking scenario. It does sound familiar now that I read it, but wouldn't have remembered it on my own.
I think I got the rest of the LS debacle right, but not the Altoona police bit. So many dramas, they all melt together sometimes!

Altoona was the suspected suicide threat. Her info was pulled up by TPTWere at the other site and given to the Altoona police.

As I remember it, peamac has it right. A pea was suicidal, someone looked up her ip and I'd assume other info and handed it to her local police (Altoona).

Altoona was some woman who, I think, brought her child to work and a co-worker smacked her child. I think she lived in Altoona and reported this woman to the police. I can't recall what happened, but I am pretty sure they worked at a charity and there was a whole bunch of other weird stuff involved.
I guess my long term memory isn't as good as I thought it was!!!
