S/O from my other thread. I posted something like this on two peas the day before they shut down, so reposting.
I want to make him a little gift bag for while he waits for me in the hospital/surgery. I'll be there 3-4 days and I know there will be times he will get bored. I will load some books to his Nook and add cash for the vending machines. I'm looking for some fun, creative ideas.
I know he will be very anxious during the surgery wait, because of a recent family (surgery related) death. I'd like to make sure he has things to occupy the 4-6 hour surgery wait time. Besides, making sure he and the kids are taken care of, takes my mind off of me!
He has done most everything around the house lately, because of my pain. Also he will be the primary care giver to me and the kids, with little to no help for a while. I want him to have a little thank you in advance.
Any fun suggestions for me?

What about one of those paddleballs? The ping-pong paddle with the ball on a string? Or a Yo-Yo? Something to keep his hands busy when he's feeling fidgety. A bag of chocolates or maybe lollipops (won't melt in pockets) to hand out to the nurses... especially the ones he needs to apologize to/butter up. Perhaps a bottle of tums, or some peppermints of sort to calm his tummy. Does he like to do sudoku or word searches or crosswords? I'd get him a book of those-- you can find some at the dollar store for sure. (I like the books better than apps-- easier to see and, for sudoku, easier to make notes.) A manly lip balm (I think burt's bees has one)? I think hospitals are kind of dry. A bottle of his own hand sanitizer so he doesn't have to use the hospital's.

If it were my DH he would really just like what you already got him-the books for his e-reader and change for the vending machine! The deck of cards he would probably use as well. Maybe an extra charger for his cell phone-one of those things that can give your phone a big charge and then get charged up again? (I can't remember what they are called now, but my DH used it when his dad was in the hospital and we waited a long time.)
I hope your surgery and recovery go well and you are feeling better quickly and your pain is gone. Good luck!

I've been sitting w/ my daughter in the hospital since yesterday & I would like a warm pair of socks and maybe a neck pillow.
ETA: I hope your surgery goes well.

Protein bars to snack on. An apple, lifesavers or other hard candy, a little package of Kleenex, charger for cell phone...

Wow, you are a great wife thinking about your husband when you are the one having the surgery. That's so sweet! My husband had back surgery a few years ago and he was in the hospital 9 days. I just bought books and magazines to read. My inlaws came too from out of town, so it was nice for me to have company there. He was in a tremendous amount of pain, so I didn't have much time to busy myself, it was mostly talking to the doctors and nurses about how to manage his pain. We also watched tv. Could he buy himself some dvds of tv shows for you all to watch while you are there?
I hope it goes well and you have a quick recovery!

Sorry, I guess I didn't think that through! For some reason I was thinking he'd have a little private area he'd be in.
