I'm going to a weekend retreat tomorrow. I ordered some supplies from Amazon that arrived today. One of the items is a 6 x 6 paper pad. You know how paper pads have that line of stuff at the top, holding the pad together? The stuff on my pad of paper was almost completely off- half of it was missing, and what was there was shredded and hanging off the cardboard backing. Someone at Amazon put a rubber band around the pad to keep it together loosely, and threw it in the envelope for delivery. The paper isn't damaged and nothing appears to be missing. Not exactly worthy of a customer complaint. But it annoys me. I didn't get it for an 'as is' price. Even with the rubber band, the paper doesn't stay in a pile straight and unless I want to take a chance on it getting damaged around the edges, I have to figure out what to do with it. It's kind of the point of the pad, right? You can just toss it in a bag. Everything stays neat until you need it- then you just take what you want. Sigh. Extremely trivial. I know.

I would lodge a complaint and ask for a percentage of the price to be refunded. Take a picture and send it along with the complaint.

It would bother me. But I am a bit OCD about that kind of thing.

Yeah, I'd be annoyed. It's important that paper is packed well. If it was advertised as new, I WOULD make a customer complaint and see what they say.

They want feedback on the packaging. I'd start there.

I'd be annoyed for a little bit. But half of those things don't stay together once I take a sheet of paper out anyhow, so I probably wouldn't even bother to complain about it-- especially if Amazon itself was the seller (because I just don't think they check the inventory carefully, and they never understand me when I say "hey, you might just want to check the inventory and make sure there aren't others like this"). I can't really bring myself to ask for a refund when all the parts I'm going to use are fine.

It would bug me also, but in the short term, are you able to put a rubber band around the top to bottom (assuming that the first one is from side to side) of the pad? My thought is that it might keep your pad more stable in transit.

OK- my people. I have found my people. You all just said everything that ran through my mind when I opened the package.

Yeah, that would bug me and I probably would send a "Hey, you might want to know..." email to the seller. Other than that, I'd just put it in a large ziplock bag to protect the paper from getting damaged and go on about my day.

Yes, it would bug me. No, I probably wouldn't complain.
There is one company that has 6x6 pads, but they aren't actually bound together. It's just a stack. And if I keep it in a zip bag, it doesn't line up nicely with the other 6x6 pads. I put a binder clip on it, which actually doesn't the trick quite nicely to keep it all together and aligned.

I would email them. You didn't pay for a used pad. You paid for a new one.

It would irk me, and I would complain. You didn't purchase a used looking paper pad. Is it a first world problem? No. It isn't how the item was advertised though.

It wouldn't bug me and I wouldn't bother complaining about it. I find the 6x6 pads tend to fall apart no matter how careful I am with them.

If I wouldn't buy it at full price in that condition at a brick and mortar store, then I wouldn't accept it from an online store.
Photograph and complain.

Wouldn't particularly bug me as long as the paper wasn't damaged. With a rubber band around it they could have little indents in the paper...that would be a problem for me. Otherwise i'd be ok with it..

That would bother me. If I went to a store I wouldn't buy a paper pad that way unless it was 50% off or something good. If I pay full price for something I want something in 100% condition.
Sure you can stick it in something to keep it all together, I would put it in a Ziploc bag.

If I could use the paper the way it was meant to be used, I would not complain, nor would I care. Binder clips, rubber bands, plastic freezer bags, even Tupperware, are all good solutions (and I would use the last two even if the rubber adhesive was intact, just to protect the paper). I would certainly not use some faux OCD excuse, since that's an actual diagnosis and this situation is...well, you said it. Pretty trivial.

This is exactly how I would feel. i would really be annoyed that it came w/ a rubber band around it because that shows they knew it was defective when they mailed it.

Buy some padding compound and make your own pads. It's not expensive, and you can make pads out of any stack of paper, even scrap paper.

It's super trivial but it makes me laugh because it would totally bug me too. Definitely say something - Amazon is great about fixing things in my experience.

It would bother me because I expect new items I purchase online to be in new quality when I receive them.
But, it also really wouldn't bother me that much because I tear my 6x6 pads apart when I get them and pull out the sheets I want/like/will use, and put the rest away in a box for my kids to use or for destash sales.

Yeah, that would bug me a bit.
Like you said, at many stores, if something's packaging is messed up, they mark it down and sell it "as is". You shouldn't pay full price for an item that should have an "as is" price.
Imagine if you bought that as part of a gift, kwim? Would you want to give it to someone like that? And that's how they need to be thinking when they ship things out.
So, yeah, I wouldn't be pea livid or anything, but I'd email them to mention it.

Trivial my buttt... I would be PISSED! It doesn't matter what the item is you bought something and it should not be damaged when you receive it.
Now that you have it I would complain to Amazon. I would tell them no I need this item for this weekend and I can not return it in the mail until I come back Of course what paper I need for this retreat I am going on will be not returned to you.
Now you have a couple choices. Take a Cereal box cut out 2 6 X 6 pieces and put them back to back and tape them together. Then place it on top of paper pad and place rubber band back on.
Or you can remove the rest of the glue stuff on the top and punch a couple hole through and get a index card rings and make a book out of it.
Good luck. Hope you have fun on your retreat.

I expect something that I order as a new item to arrive as a new item. I would put in a complaint. Do you know if all the paper is there or is it missing sheets?
