So many people have said "All the light we can not see" is their favorite book. My co worker said it's the best book she has ever read. I literally finished it 5 minutes ago and am so disappointed in it.
I'm not giving spoilers for those who haven't read it but I just dont' understand the draw to it. The writing was confusing, things that happened ticked me off, I don't get the ending.
I'm curious if I'm the only one who didn't enjoy it. I wouldnt' say I hated it - I am just not happy with it.

My friend just told me about this book today! She loved it. I am not much on historical stuff, so I am not sure I would like it.

I read it quite early on, before most of the hype...and I absolutely loved it. I was drawn in by the characters primarily and then the writing. I thought the writing was beautiful and didn't find anything about it confusing. Yes it switches between times, but within a paragraph or so it always becomes clear where on the timeline we are.
The beauty of books is that we all bring out different experiences into it as we read. We all have different life experiences that makes us either connect with or dislike a book. So I always think that even though we all technically read the same book...we don't in reality.
Books I don't like, I just think "well, that didn't do it for me, but at least now I have experienced it for myself" and move on. I recently Finished "Middlesex" which a lot of people loved and still gets lots of rave reviews. I didn't like it at all. If someone asks me about it at some stage in the future, I'll tell them why, but I'm not going to dwell on why I didn't agree with all the others.

I loved that book and also rated it as one of the best books I've read. It's okay we all like different things so don't worry too much!

I loved it. I particularly appreciated the way Marie-Laure's chapters were filled with multi-sensory descriptions instead of visual descriptions.

I loved loved loved it as well. My favorite book last year.
I really enjoy WW2 fiction as I had at least four books from that time period in my top reads of the year and have added two more already this year as well.

I had a heck of a time getting through that book. It just didn't grab me the way it clearly did most everyone else. I wanted to stop reading it but kept going because of the hype. About 3/4 the way through I started to enjoy it and while I'm glad I read it, it doesn't even crack my top 20 list.

I started it about a month ago. It did not keep my attention so I returned it to the library. DD actually checked it out but she couldn't get into it either.

My mother recommended it to me recently. She loved it, and said it was one of the best books she has read in a long time. I read the reviews and I am not sure it is one that I would like it either. I'll put it on the list just in case I am wrong, and will read it eventually. But it isn't on top the to read pile. Then again, I don't have any extra money these days so I also have to factor in book costs as well and am reading all the free books on kindle. And y'all? Some of those are real stinkers.

I read it and loved it, but do know people who did not. You're not alone.

I listened to it on audible so that made the book more exciting due to the narrator's voice but it also meant I zoned off and missed some parts. I wish it told just Marie Laure's side of the story, the boy's story I wasn't interested in. I love historical fiction so I really enjoyed the book. The ending was realistic though not what I would have liked.

I loved it too, I thought it was so beautifully written. I've definitely held the minority opinion of raved about books on many, many occasions. You just never know.

I'll admit that I just couldn't get started. I read the first few chapters, but I finally gave up. My book club as a whole loved it - I'm definitely an outlier.

Yes, I liked it. But I know several people who didn't care for it at all, so you are not alone!
I felt that way about those Girl Who books. (Girl who kicked the Hornets Nest, etc.) I didn't like them at all, yet they were hugely popular.

Really? I'm surprised... This certainly was my favorite literary book this year. (I read a lot of pop tart books, tasty but not terribly good for you...)

I read it last year, and while I thought it was good, I didn't think it was great. I get why people really love it, but it didn't move me.

You are not the only one to not like this book! I felt it was much, much too segmented, and the ending was rushed, forced, and generally unsatisfying for me. While not an unreadable book, I've read soooo much better recently.

I listened to it. Like annabella, I think the narrator added a lot to it. As much as I enjoyed it, I wouldn't say it was great, just good. I'm having trouble understanding why it won the Pulitzer. I thought tat was for novels about the American experience.

Totally and completely agree with you, OP. I could have written your post. I keep wondering what I missed because I didn't love it the way so many did. It was painful to get through. I kept thinking if I just keep going, I'll get sucked it. Well, it sucked alright, but not in the way I kept hoping!

I liked most of it, but didn't feel like the diamond storyline was necessary. I thought that there was enough tension and conflict with the boy tracking down the radios and her uncle transmitting from the attic. Adding the creepy Nazi dude and all the mystical diamond stuff didn't strengthen the story for me.
However, you know how some books are entertaining but the more time passes, you like them less? This one is opposite for me. I thought the book was good, but the more time passes, I really do think back on it quite a bit and enjoy that world he created.

I've been listening to it while painting, but it's taking awhile. (Finished my set painting for the opera, and I have something else that I'm working on at home but not every day.) I'm enjoying it well enough but it doesn't have me itching to get back to the story. (Hmmm... last time I was painting I put on Firefly instead of my book. I'll get through it eventually!)

I liked it but didn't think it was the best thing I'd read in ages or anything like that. I feel the same way about "Girl On the Train". It was okay but not all that for me. I felt like it was a "Gone Girl" knockoff and not anywhere near as well done.

It wasn't a book that just kept me up at night reading, but I did really enjoy it. I think it's the kind of writing that is meant to be read thoughtfully. For instance, when the writer described what it was like for Marie to be blind. I thought the descriptions were just so amazing.
I read quite a bit and love to read different genres and sometimes I think how well I like a book can be influenced by the mood I am in or what's going on in my life.
Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh is one book that could be read at different times in one's life and take on a new meaning with each reading.

I went to Amazon and skimmed through the excerpt. It is not a book I would enjoy at all. Just doesn't meet my expectations of a fun read.

I read a lot. I enjoy historical fiction. I had a really hard time getting through that book. I'll even say,I didn't like it. And the ending? Seriously! You are not alone!!!
