...for those of you that have used this method, how do you label the jewel cases? Have you written directly on the spine of the case or inserted a strip of paper inside or what way has worked for you?
I'm curious because I'm finally ready to sort and store my clear stamp collection and I have a load of old CD cases...what say the Peas?

Funny you should bring this up because I'm wondering what I'm going to do w/mine.
I have them in the jewel cases, but I have so few that they're standing up in a box so I just flip thru them. I stamped the images on cs and slid them in the fronts so I know what's in them. Does this make sense?
Anyway, I just purged some CD's and have an empty CD rack. I was thinking about storing them in there, but wondered how I would know what was in each case and didn't know if I felt like going back making new covers to have labels on the spines.
So basically, I'm no help to you at all (other than letting you know you're not alone in your question) and am hoping for some good answers from others!

I wrote with Sharpie on the spine of the CD case. I have them standing up in a Jetmaxx cube 4x4 drawer. It's very handy and I sort them by themes. I do have to say that the cheaper stamps don't stick well to the CD case. They often fall off. I very carefully close the CD case and make sure it snaps all around before I put it away. It's not a bad solution, but I have a lot of those $1 stamps from Mike's.

I'm curious because I'm finally ready to sort and store my clear stamp collection and I have a load of old CD cases...what say the Peas? I number the cases. I keep a catalog of images, separated by topic, on each image is the case number . So I can look at the images, decide and find it easily. I started this when I had about 20 sets and used one small notebook ( holds pages that are maybe 5x8). I now have about 6 catalog books I have a catalog of botanical Images, animal, fall/winter/ people/ birthday and other celebrations, etc. if the set came with a stamped sheet, I use it in my catalog. I have too many stamps!! Over 140 DVD cases, probably at least 20 cd cases and a significant number if wood mounted stamps!!

Funny, I just transferred my stamps from CD cases to the Avery Elle envelopes. After years of CD cases, I think the envelopes will work better for me.
But back to your question. I used my label maker to label the spines and I stamped the images on white cardstock and put that in the front of the case.

I use my label maker for the spine. I don't need index images.

I use my label maker for the spine. I don't need index images. That is what I did when I used jewel cases. I no longer use them but the label maker on the spine was perfect at the time.

I cut a strip of paper, glued it to the spine and then hand wrote an index number. I have image sheets in a 3-ring binder. I got this idea from one of the designers from Studio Calico (Kinsey I think) a long time ago.

Thank you ladies for sharing your storage solutions and your methods for labeling! You've given me food for thought, I hadn't considered my label maker or cataloging/indexing....and thanks for the heads up on the $1 stamps not sticking so well, I have a lot of them too!

I had a piece of paper folded up in the 'spine' of mine (and they would slip out of the crack in the case every once in a while), but now that I have a collection of Washi tape, I think that would be easiest-- just write the name on the tape and stick it on the outside.

If you are putting stamps that are mounted on EZ Mount Foam into CD cases make sure you get some glossy paper or something to stick them to. The foam reacts to the plastic of the CD case over time.

I use a different system for my unmounted stamps ... clear envelopes and I mount them on transparency sheets. BUT I have a big box of empty CD cases in good condition (still have printed liners inside, though) if anyone wants them. I will ship them on my nickel if you'll take them off my hands.
