Yea yea yea, I know I should go in to see my Dr, and I do have my yearly wellness exam in July, and yea yea.I do work in the medical field, but nothing GYN. AND even though I work in medical, I have crabby insurance. soooo..here is my question
I have been bleeding every day for the last 3 months. Yes, every day I have something. Either spotting, or then heavy like a period, but it never really stops. It slows down quite a bit, like just one spotting a day, or a bit more, and then heavy. Has this happened to anyone going in to menopause? I'm 51, so I know this is the start. I've heard of people having heavy periods but not this slow bleeding every day thing? experiences??!! thanks

That happened to a good friend and it got worse. She ended out having a hysterectomy. I had a hysterectomy last year at age 72 but they were right to do that. I had uterine cancer but they caught it. Yes get it taken care of, and get a paps and or a biopsy.

I don't know what setup you have, but my clinic/insurance company provides online messaging with the doctor's office at no cost. If you have that, perhaps you could send a note to your doctor's office and ask their opinion on whether it's something that requires immediate attention or whether it's something that can wait, or whether there's something to look for when it WILL require immediate attention if it's before July.

Come on cindy, call your Dr. You know better. Happened to me, had a D&C, and no problems since.

UGH..I just keep hoping it will stop ha. I just had a PAP and biopsy last yr, as I had just a small amt of bleeding, nothing like this, and it stopped on it's own. I just don't want all that cost all over again. Really, my insurance sucks. My deductible is crazy.

I wouldn't mess around with unusual bleeding. It's probably fibroids but heavy bleeding is a warning sign for ovarian cancer. (I would err on the side of caution as my mother died of a secondary cancer that she got after having ovarian cancer and only had one abnormal cycle.)
However, I barely tolerate my period so I probably would have been at the doctor by day ten.

Pretty sure it's not immediate need...as I've lived 3 mo's with it. HA

Have you considered going to a county health department for an exam? It may be a lot more cost effective for you since your health insurance is so expensive.

I bled like that most of my life. Finally when I was 39 and showed up at my doctors appointment weak and white as a ghost the doctor decided that I had to have something wrong with me. She did a few tests and said I needed a hysterectomy. But I had to stop bleeding first because if I kept bleeding I would bleed to death. She told me to start taking iron pills and she gave me 6 months worth of birth control pills. I ended up taking a months worth in 3 days and I kept eating the pills like she wanted me to until the day I had my surgery 2 weeks later. I did stop bleeding. I also had started feeling better not to the point where I was back to my normal self. But I could function again.
I am sorry you are goign through this hopefully there is nothing abnormal going on with you. GO to the doctor don't wait.

Cyndy, go to the doctor now, please don't keep putting it off - my unusual bleeding turned out to be endometrial cancer, and so I 'encourage' everyone with unusual symptoms to get them checked.
It is 5 years this month, since my cancer was diagnosed - it was already Stage 4, and my doctors have told me that it is unlikely I would have got to 5 years if I hadn't got it checked as soon as I was having the unusual bleeding.

This is not a wait until July thing.
This could be anything from simply hormonal to uterine cancer or anything in between. Quite likely, it is hormonal in nature, but the worst case scenario must be ruled out and that cannot wait until July. A 51 yo who has been spotting or bleeding for 3 months needs to be seen. It's not a sudden emergency, but you should be seen within a shorter period of time.

Thank you for scheduling that appointment. I know it's pricey, but you are too valuable to wait. I'll be thinking good thoughts that it is just hormonal, but please keep us updated.

Glad you're going! That did happen to me for a few months. I still had pretty much regular (every 28 days) periods until I was almost 52, when I had a hysterectomy. It was all part of the fun (sarcasm!) perimenopausal mystery. I'd carry extra panties, pads, etc., with me. Ugh. Not knowing when it would stop or start was NOT fun. Having it be "crime scene" periods was NOT fun. For me, it was mostly due to my fibroids. I had no idea that they grew quickly and extended beyond my uterus at that point!! So, I'm glad you're going soon to check it out. Good luck!!
ETA: I was put on the pill in my late 40's for about 2 years (and then 1 year off, 2 years on...) and it regulated me for a while. If everything checks out, maybe that's something to consider?

I don't think they would put me on BC, due to the BP med's I am on.

There are other forms of hormonal medical management aside from the poorly named "birth control" pills. if this is indeed a hormonal issue, Mirena is an option. Ablation can be an option as well. However, without first ruling out endometrial aka uterine cancer, none of these are options until that happens.

Yep. I understand that Melissa. I had almost this same problem about 2-3 yrs ago, and she put me on progesterone, and I got straightened out. I am hoping she can just do that again after some tests.

I'm 53 and have never bled for a month and I've been in peri-menopause for 2 gazillion years by now. It may be hormone related, may be a cyst. I'd make the appt and have it checked out just to be sure.

One was caught early, so surgery only. The other one waited, didn't follow up, and needed surgery, chemo, and radiation. It's probably nothing, but this is your life and health. Go to the doctor now, not in July.
