A 4 game suspension. The team gets a $1 million fine and loss of 1 st round draft pick next year and 4th round pick in 2017.
He got off light, should have been at least 6 games. Now to see what happens when they appeal.

I don't get it. Was there evidence of anything? Last I heard, they said he "probably knew" or something like that. That doesn't sound like evidence to me.

Had he turned over his phone messages related to the issue, "probably" would look a whole lot different. It would either be a) he didn't know, therefore a non-story or b) a whole lot more than just a 4 game suspension.
I have a feeling "probably" is what's saving his butt right now.

Someone please refresh my memory here. When the Saints had their bounty scandal, Coach Sean Payton denied all knowledge didn't he? Did they ever prove he knew anything? They certainly suspended him for a season. So, Belichick uses the same excuse but has no personal ramifications? What am I missing? Or am I just getting confused?
And, yeah, I suspect they came out strong based on public opinion. Then it will be appealed and public opinion will have died down and they'll skate.

Sean Payton and the Saints GM but admitted to knowing about the bounty.

Got off light? Hardly. Ray Rice beats his girlfriend unconscious, drags her out of an elevator and gets a 2 game suspension. Irrefutable proof on tape vs "more likely than not". Are they using him as an example? Could be. While I think there should have been punishment, I don't think a 4 game suspension, a 1million dollar fine and loss of draft picks fits the "crime".
Oh well, Garrapallo will get some good playing time.

I think the difference is, Bountygate was about injuring and possibly ending a career or life of a player vs not enough air in the ball.

I could make a long list none of them fit the inconsitensies are ridiculous. It is still surprising to see them suspend Brady. I think that's why they were was some speculation on social media site that there was some lighter punishment if any.

I think the difference is, Bountygate was about injuring and possibly ending a career or life of a player vs not enough air in the ball. I'm not arguing that one isn't worse than the other. Or that the punishment should be similar. I merely asked because the way I remembered it Payton disavowed all knowledge which I thought was a bunch of hooey. And my point was that if that was the case, ignorance was not an acceptable defense for ANY coach. suzastampin I also agree that the punishment over the balls is disproportionate to the Rice scandal. But I don't think that means they are punishing Brady too harshly so much as they didn't punish Rice nearly enough.

Goodell just needs to go. There is no consistency, no credibility and no rhyme or reason to the decisions. Personally, I think the punishment should have been worse. But when Ben R. ended up with just a 4 game suspension for suspected rape, it's hard to make a cogent argument that Brady should be suspended longer for messing with the PSI. Even though I think he should.

I think if it had been any other team and QB we would never have heard about it. Judging by all the QBs that have said how they do this or that with their balls, I think they had to punish Brady as an example so that they won't be on TV telling what they do. That doesn't look good for the NFL. All was well and good for the NFL until this got legs and they couldn't let it go by. Lurkingsince2001, I think they had no choice but to suspend Peyton also because of how egregious the allegations. The money had to have come from some place that was being paid to the players. I do understand why you are comparing Peyton to BB. I just think it's apples to oranges on this. But, what do I know? Just my humble opinion.

Tom Brady knows the weight of the balls he handles - that's his business to know. Of course the lowest possible employees, the locker room guys take the fall. No one at that level would ever mess with the game balls if they weren't instructed to do so. And of course they take the fall. I think coaches, managers, players who handle the balls should make it their business to know that things are done right. They know how a football is supposed to feel. They know when it's too heavy or too light. They deserve to vacate their super bowl win. They cheated. And it's not the first time. Always follow the money. AAALLLWWWWAAAAYYYYSSSSS.

AAALLLWWWWAAAAYYYYSSSSS. sorry, but they are filling (or deflating) the ball with air. It weighs exactly the same. It would just be a big squishier. Squeezier?? No actual weight difference whatsoever. Because.....air.
