What should I get for her/them?
Back story: We have only lived in this house a little over a year. We are acquaintances, and they are one of the first neighbors we met while moving in, so we have known them the whole time we have been here. We are not close, by any means, but I do like them and we talk often when we are all outside. They also picked up our mail while we were out of town last week.
They just had a baby boy last Friday, the day we left for vacation. So, my questions are...I am going to make her a picture frame. Is it too much to add a GC with it (Since we don't know them that well), or is the frame enough? If not, how much is enough? I'd like to do $25. Is that too little? Where would be a good place? Should I stick with some place where they can get several different kinds of things, like Target, or somewhere like Babies R Us?
They have 1 other child, a girl, that is 5. Should I get, or do anything for her as well so she doesn't feel left out?
Thanks!

Why not do a gift card to a restaurant? That way new mommy does not have to cook at least one night!

I don't know about what to get him/them, but I always like to get the new big brother/sister a little something if I'm bringing something for the baby. I usually do something small that they can play with alone (like a coloring book/crayons).

Why not do a gift card to a restaurant? That way new mommy does not have to cook at least one night! Well, 2 reasons...I actually thought about cooking something for them, but don't know if I should, without asking first. Also, since I don't know them that well, I don't know what they like. I'd rather do a store because they can get several different things...food, something for the baby, toilet paper...ANYTHING. I'd hate to get a restaurant GC that never gets used because they don't like it there. they may also have friends, or church members, that are already set up to bring them food.

I'd probably skip the frame and get congratulations card with a $25 gift card to Toys R US. They can pick up what they need (diapers, wipes, or a toy for the older child)

What would I take (besides the frame) for someone I didn't know that well? I'd probably go pick up a cute outfit from Kohl's in a 6mo for later in the year, because that's the sort of thing I like to shop for. Or maybe an assortment of bathstuff. Or if I were going to Target for the GC, I'd check out if anything is still on the registry. But is a $25 Target card a thoughtful gift? Yes, absolutely. (I'd personally go with that because it's cheaper than BRU.) They can get diapers, clothes, formula, groceries, starbucks, whatever their need is at a given moment. You're not obligated to take anything for the five year old, but as an older sister myself, I would encourage it. If you're going to Target anyhow, there's a ton of cool stuff in the dollar spot. You can make her a lovely little gift for $6. ($5 plus the cost of a bag.)

My first thought was Target too. Diapers and formula are expensive.

It's what I create to sell, but I always give them as gifts, as well. It won't be included in the price of the gift because I already have everything I need to make it.

I'd get a Target gift card and also pick up a little something for the 5 yr. old like sidewalk chalk or some other inexpensive thing. I'm sure she'd love to be included in the gifting

I always give children's books. Since it's a neighbor I would possibly include a gift card for pizza delivery. Many new parents don't really go out much, so ordering pizza delivery might fit the bill. Do you have picture of the frames you make?

I think a handmade frame would be a wonderful gift and plenty enough as a gift, however, if you'd like to add a gc, Target would be my choice. I'd love to see your frames! Do you sell online? ETA: and yes, don't forget the big sister Coloring book, reading book, sidewalk chalk...all great ideas!

I think a frame, $25.00 gift card and something little for the big sister is very nice.

Love your frames!!! As someone who is expecting I think a gift card is great.....I think target is a great idea if there is one close to you. I have also always given a little big brother/sister gift....usually a book and a coloring book with (washable!) crayons. You're so thoughtful!

I think a $25 GC is plenty for a neighbour you are friendly with, but not actually friends. If just giving a GC, I wouldn't bother with something for the older child. If you are actually giving a tangible gift, I would give the older child something like a colouring book and crayons, or sidewalk chalk or some such thing.

Just looked at your frames. They are super cute. I'd definitely give them a frame with a $25 GC. And give the little girl a small something too (like what I mentioned above)

If you are friends I would offer just to come and sit with baby so mom can take a shower.

A $25 gift card to Target, assuming Target is nearby, is great (the Targets here are in the burbs and I don't go out there just to shop, so I personally wouldn't benefit from a Target GC much, but I am probably in the minority). My favorite gifts post-baby have always been gift cards to restaurants that deliver . It is so nice not to have to cook, shop, or even pick prepared food up.

We just gave a box of diapers to a couple with a new baby. The mom was genuinely happy to get them. I had a couple people do that for us when my girls were babies and I loved it. If I have to send something in the mail I usually go with a Target card so they can use it for what they need.

Your frames are lovely. Have you considered making a simple one for the older child with her name on it? If you've only known the family for a year, I would think the frames would be quite enough but a Target gift card is always a nice thing to receive.

For someone you don't know very well, I think the frame is enough. If you want to add something to it, I might get a book for baby and one for the sibling as well. I think a $25 gc is a bit excessive considering the relationship

I think a frame, GC (to you closest big box store) and something for the little girl is more than enough. When we had my daughter, our neighbors brought over a little board book and I was so touched with that! Just be sure to call before going over. The neighbors' girls from across the street had a knack for ringing the doorbell making the dog bark RIGHT when I put the baby down to sleep. I am making a doorbell cover for this time around.
