I find mega-million$ churches obscene. All I can think is how much real good could they have done with all that money? Instead, they chose to pay homage to themselves. It truly disturbs me.

They have taken a lot of money from hard working people to build that monstrosity.
Yet, another example of how authority corrupts. People believe these church officials when they are told it is their "duty" to hand over as much money as possible to this church.

No different than all the other mega-churches out there . . . Osteen, etc. They're all gross.
The Catholic church is right up there with the mega churches on this kind of thing, too.

I read on the FAQ that it's in/near Kansas city.
It's just gross.
It's a Methodist church, which I somehow find surprising.

People have always spent the big bucks on God and buildings/things dedicated to God. A good portion of art throughout history was church commissioned. Have you ever seen any of the many, many huge old churches in Europe? I have no idea what they cost to build back then, or how that dollar value would compare to today's market.

And the Mormon church owns a mall. They are all ridiculous in my opinion. This, among other reasons, is why I think churches should not be tax exempt. They take complete advantage of the communities in which they reside.

According to the fine print this is a Methodist church. I'm really surprised because the Methodist churches I know are all ordinary sized, or very small. I associate Methodism with the 3-point-charge, and a dedication to keeping even small churches open.

If they want in the politics and money-making games, they need to be taxed like everyone else.

L With mega church bankruptcies in the last few years I'm shocked to see this being built and that price tag is disgusting.

Some churches even tell people how much they should give. (A percentage of their income). When something is done because a person feels guilty then yes, I think it is an example of being "taken advantage of" Of course the church calls it a way to "worship". (And yes, that is exactly what THIS church calls it. Giving them money is a way for you to worship God).

I, too find this shocking of sa methodist church. Everyone I've ever seen has been very modest and understated. In fact all the ones around here are in very, very old buildings, like approx. 100 years old.

Church has always been big business. In it for money or power, or both.

Personally, I think the building is unattractive and I wouldn't want to attend a church that big, but to each his own.

Kind of goes against the Gospel teachings. I don't care about historical times. It is nice we have art from that time. But I would hope Christians know better now. Just because it was done in the past doesn't mean it needs to be repeated in the present.

We are struggling to raise 30,000 to rebuild our classrooms as loans are out of the question. Our Sunday school classes leak and get moldy. Sometimes situations like this are disheartening but people give as they are led and megachurches just have mega money usually. At that our classroom building will essentially be a tin box with no bells or whistles which I think is a shame will still cost 30 grand before it's all over.

the bigger they are the harder they fall This is very true! We had a mega church here that had to file for bankruptcy a few yrs ago, Come to find out, they were collecting enough to cover the cost of the mortgage, But the pastor in charge was helping himself to it. They ended up folding and reopening the church someplace else under another name. The building was HUGE!!! The school district in that area ended up buying it from the bank, renovating it and making it into a preschool / head start for the entire district. Money worth spending! WOW. That place is already HUGE! I know where they are building this. Most of the building is already there, Looks like they are adding the circular building to the front and then renovating the old building ( which is not that old!) There are several MEGA Church's in Southern Johnson County, this is one of them. It says they have already raised nearly $64M from their congregation! that is a lot of $$. ETA: if you click around on the link, Click on "Stained Glass window" it says "Give to the Stained Glass window" " Each $20K gift will fund one 4ft x 5ft stained glass pannel" or a $1k gift will find a square foot" The stained Glass Window is going to be 47 Ft Tall and 95 Feet wide!!!

Now that you mention Catholic Church, I'd rather the money go to building a church than paying nearly a billion dollars to settle priest molestation cases. That is truly disgusting.

Wow, that stained glass window is really beautiful, but I'm with everyone else. I am disgusted at how much money is spent (wasted) on churches like this, it's truly obscene. It also makes me wonder WWJD.

Sick. That is absolutely disgusting that any member of that church would think that was money well spent or well donated.
