I'm gobsmacked that anyone things he did it out of curiosity. This is a family where big kids are given the responsibility of a littler sibling from a shockingly early age. Josh would have been changing diapers, or watching diapers be changed, since his own babyhood. The anatomy of a 4, 6, 8, 10 year old girl wouldn't have been anything to be curios about. That is a very good point.

There have been copies of literature from the home school program The Duggars follow floating around out there since this story broke. In one very sick post there is a warning to parents about letting older brothers change diapers because their may be temptations. This is NOT a normal family where an older brother could change his sister's diaper and it be no big deal. According to their beliefs, a toddler is temptation if she's a girl.

Someone posted on my Facebook page how one community (she didn't say where) dealt with a child abuser. Let's just say I have never seen anything that graphic before.
How do people "forgive" and "forget" what he has confessed to doing? I have read many people telling others to just "get over it. He repented and God will judge him". I have trouble with this. Never forgive and never ever forget.
My heart worries for his own children. Who's to say he hasn't been messing around with them when his wife wasn't looking?
*Shudder*

I had seen that but assumed [perhaps wrongly] that this came after the abuse, not the curriculum in use before. It is also difficult to know what family life is after the abuse as a way of "fixing" it and trying to prevent the younger boys for following the same pattern compared to what family life was like before the abuse came to light (to them) They weren't a tv family before the abuse. I tend to think early in Josh's life (under 8 maybe) that modesty and gender roles were less rigid. And by that point he had several sisters.

thanks for the links. I was able to give feedback with an email address I hardly use (!) and yes, I do want anonymity for that. I hope it is cancelled altogether. I already boycott Nestle.

SMDH This family is beyond disgusting. Who the hell would ever look at this family as role models? All those past and pea threads were full of people defending THIS?

I don't know, they were homeschooling at the time of the abuse and those curriculum were published in the 90s and are part of the curriculum that they use. Who knows for sure. It is sick either way. Even know that ANYONE was taught that is horrifying.

I saw that clip and it made my skin crawl. It make me wonder what he does behind closed doors let alone while being recorded for broadcast to millions of people. Gag

I don't watch the show and only have seen the family when they trek up to NYC to announce on the news they are expecting again. Is this seriously the way they usually behave? In front of their daughter? What a train wreck. ETA Gah! I can't get the image out of my head - my dad would have been enraged if he had witnessed any adult behaving like that around his daughters. I witnessed lots of affection between my parents but never anything sexualized. Same with my kids. They see us hold hands, hug and kiss affectionately but NEVER anything sexual.

I don't watch the show and only have seen the family when they trek up to NYC to announce on the news they are expecting again. Is this seriously the way they usually behave? In front of their daughter? What a train wreck. I've never watched an entire show, so I'm not sure. I heard some stories and rumors (mostly here) and read a few op-eds over the years, and had seen a few short clips, but really had no desire to delve further than the quotes from the family that I had read. Maybe it's because I have some experience with a crazy, cultish, "Christian" religion that tries to play all mainstream and normal, but damn. I have no idea how to tell all those kids apart since I've never watched, but this appears to be an older clip, because I think maybe the daughter (and date? boyfriend?) that JimBob is dry humping Michelle in front of is the oldest girl who's now married? who knows? eta: I went to the youtube page and the post date says April of 2014, but I have no idea how old this clip (or the episode that it's from) really is. But like a PP said, if this is what that JimBob will do in front of his children, and TV cameras, it's nightmare-inducing to think what goes on behind closed doors in that household. I really hope that this was a somewhat isolated incident in front of cameras, because I just don't get anyone semi-normal thinking that this kind of strange sexual show-offing is normal coming from parents directed at the public, and even worse, THEIR CHILDREN. I heard the stories of all the kissing in front of kids and taunting them "You can't do this yet," and figured it was just normal parental kissing in front of kids with some assholian verbal smack from the parents, but now I have to wonder I saw that picture the parents re-created of one of their kids' first kiss and thought it was extreme attention-whoring, even for them, but this humping thing shocks even cynical old me. I seriously can't believe anyone would ever defend that show or even worse, let their children watch it. Seeing that, and then remembering all the vehement defense about what an upright, moral family they were and what a great example it all was for them, their kids, whoever, is just unfathomable. Especially when I think about all the pea defenders who kept asking if detractors had ever actually watched the show.

Gross. Gross. Gross. I thought Jim Bob was a tool before but now, seeing him dry hump his wife while telling his children to side-hug their fiancees? And this is the same man who reportedly had the sex talk with Josh the night before his wedding? And Josh with the incest joke? SMDH.

Disgusting. And the lack of shock or surprise on the face of the daughter has me wondering what else these kids have seen or been subjected to.
If my parents had behaved like that (and they never would have done in a million years!) I would have been appalled and mortified, not completely unfazed as she was.

All the boys in matching polos and pants and all the girls in matching dresses. Michelle said it made it easiest for her to have everyone dress the same. They all went to school at the kitchen table, they had no TV or electronics like radio, they worked in the home most of the day, played as a group during scheduled play times. The girls cooked and did laundry. I remember seeing those girls sorting clothes into bins in the laundry room. They all played the violin whether they wanted to or not, had aptitude or interest. They were little clones of each other.

That's a double date that they went on with Jessa and Ben who were the last ones to get married. 2014 is probably right on for when it was filmed. She is expecting her first now. I saw that clip of the episode a while ago and was horrified.

I'm getting to this thread very late (sick all week with stomach virus) but I read the entire thread in one day and it's been bothering me for the last two days. I've only watched about 4-5 episodes of this show, and have never liked this family, always feeling there was something "off" about them. Jim Bob always struck me as "slimy" and Michelle as a "brain washed nin com poop", and I was really bothered by their disregard for their daughters using them as servants and not letting them go to college, but only wanting to marry them off so they could reproduce as fast as possible, and their patriarchal system for men and boys. Ugh!
To have this come forward about Josh, my first thought was, "Oh my gosh those poor girls!" and then "That little bastard got away with it!". I am so angry at the parents (and Josh too, of course) for what they did and continue to do in protecting Josh and neglecting and ignoring their girls who were his victims. I just do NOT understand how parents can do that. I just cannot comprehend it. I'm sick that in their state the statute of limitations for this crime is only 3 years (this obviously needs to be changed as soon as possible, it's crazy!), I'm sick that the parents took Josh to their friend the Sheriff who is now a convicted child pornographer serving 50 years in prison knowing that he wouldn't press charges against Josh, and then they sent him for 2 months to do construction work with a family friend and pray over it calling it a "cure". I'm sure they did absolutely nothing for their girls in terms of therapy or treatment. I'm sure they blamed the girls for "seducing" poor Josh-their thoughts-not mine!
I am sick for those girls! Here's what I've thought about. One of the girls is still a minor. That's the only way Jim Bob was able to get the police record wiped out just the other day, because he claimed as a minor she didn't want her name out for the world to see. My thought is since she's still a minor why can't CPS be called in to help her now get the therapy she so obviously needs? The State now has proof the abuse happened because of the police record. Wouldn't that work? At least it's worth a try? Just a thought. Once she's a legal adult it can't be done without her permission and as brainwashed as those girls are, they won't agree to it I don't think.
Thanks a million for the Pea that provided all of the links for the petitions to sign to get the show permanently off the air, and also for the links to the other sites to write to. I really appreciate it and have signed all of the petitions.
Debbie in MD.

While I think you have a valid point that effort needs to go into changing statutes on these crimes, I completely disagree that no effort needs to go into stopping that horror of a show. It totally exploits those girls, and reinforces to a lot of gullible people that their crazy behavior is normal. There are future victims and predators watching that show, I'm sure.
