I just sat behind a woman at Dunkin' Donuts who took a full 15 minutes to place and get her order. At Dunkin donuts! When I got up to the window I said what took that lady so long and was told she gave a huge order and that they are timed on how quickly they get things out and that she put them really far behind.
I don't eat at fast food places but I know that when I did there would be people ordering enough food for 20 people at thedrive-through. I really think there needs to be a limit on what you can order I had a drive-through as I think most people use it as a quick means of getting what they need and leaving

If I order a combo meal is that counted as 3 items or 1? Your idea sounds good in theory but it wouldn't work in my opinion.

I think that falls under common courtesy. Just like the morons who use drive up banking and sit there making out their deposit slip, rooting around in their car,and doing general jackassery instead of being ready for the teller when they pull up.

A combo would be 1 order, so I'd think it would count as 1 item if things were being counted.
That would be so frustrating to wait 15 minutes behind someone at a Dunkin' Doughnuts. I'd keep thinking "If I pull out of line I'm sure to see her right behind me, leaving too".

I'm not sure that I would want to see a rule about that. Common courtesy? Sure. But I think there's enough rules already legislating stupid stuff that people do.

I agree, it's annoying to wait behind those huge orders and it's annoying when you're the one inside trying to put them together!

I agree So often people just don't think about others when they do things. It's not that hard to think about how what you are doing effects others in addition to yourself. I'm always amazed at how often I see people pull across a lane of traffic blocking a lane because they missed their lane/turn or couldn't pull out and straighten up. I have driven to the next block, exit, etc because I missed a turn. I'm the one that's lost or missed my turn, why should others have to be inconvenienced by my mistake

It's kind of an easy fix - DD should have those designated 'waiting spaces' near the store like McDonalds does - that way, she could place her order, drive on so you could get served and wait out of the way while others get dealt with.

Common courtesy! But there will be someone with a mobility disability and it will be the way store solves an ADA accommodation - it still happen.
My pet peeve is person who refuses to move after dropping Rx at pharmacy and insists on waiting at the window instead of pulling into a parking space. I don't know how I manage to get behind that crazy every time.
Face it. We are humans. There will be lines. We will grumble.

if businesses have the room and luxury, I think they should be able to provide two drive through speakers (like McDonalds) so people can go around long orders like that.

I'm always like OP, I just want an iced tea but might have my dog with me and don't want to park, get out and go inside for it It's always just my luck to be that single person behind that HUGE or slow special order person

There's a sign at the drive-thru at the Dunkin Donuts near here that says the drive-thru is limited to 5 items or less and to please go inside if you have a larger order. I have no problem with that -- they're so frickin' fast at that drive-thru. In and out in under three minutes, always. Even with a line.
I think it's common courtesy, too.

Agreed - hard to make a rule, but completely rude on her part. And they should have had her pull into a spot while they filled her order.
YES!! This is high on my list of pet peeves. If you make a mistake, you are the only one who should be inconvenienced by it.
That sucks! My pharmacy doesn't even let people do that. The wait is always 20 min, so you have to leave and come back. I would be ready to shoot someone if I had to sit behind them waiting for their Rx to be filled!

Both Dunkin' Donuts in my town have a "no food orders at drive-thru" rule, and have for as long as I can remember. I thought it was pretty common, because it's one of those little things that can really make life so much easier for everyone.

So you can only order a beverage? That sounds like such a pain for the people who go through the drive-thru everyday on the way to work and get just a donut & coffee or just a sandwich & coffee. Plus, I'm not sure they have enough space inside for people to line up during the rush times. The line of cars wraps right around the building during the morning and lunch time hours. Personally, I think you have to be pretty brave to place a giant order at a drive-thru. It's almost begging for something to get messed up with your order to ask them to do something so involved in a situation where they are trying to be as fast as humanly possible.

I think that donuts and muffins are fine - the "no food" usually refers to none of their sandwiches or things that need anything more than being thrown in a bag/box.

We actually go inside to order a drink to go at Steak & Shake. All I ever get is a Diet Vanilla Coke. I really wish they had a drink only drive through line. Everything they make at Steak & Shake is "made to order". It astonishes me the number of people who will sit in line for 15-20 minutes, and then, when they pull up to the window, turn around a talk to the 3 kids in the back seat (appearing to ask them what they want!). Duh. You had 15 plus minutes to sort that all out. For crying out loud, at least be ready to order when you get up to the window. I swear it takes them another full 5 minutes to place the order, GRRRR. I now go inside for my one item drink order. Crazy.

What's annoying is when someone makes sure their order is correct while still sitting at the window.

What's annoying is when someone makes sure their order is correct while still sitting at the window. I do that. I'm not driving away to find out half of my food is missing, and then waiting in the drive through for another half hour to get it fixed, or parking and walking in to wait in line inside.

Yes, beverages only in the drive-thru. It's always been that way so I guess we are all just used to the rule. The shop closest to us gets crowded on Saturday morning with sports teams getting their donuts and muffins, but even then it's not terrible.

Our DD had a sign requesting that multiple sandwich orders be placed inside. I would think that's common courtesy, but people are so selfish nowadays.

I agree that it's common courtesy, and common sense. I spent too many years in high school, college, and grad school (yes!) working a drive-thru window. Not that they tend to make any more mistakes there than inside the dining room, but if you have a large or complicated order, you should be double-checking it to make sure you've got everything you need. That needs to be done inside the restaurant, not at the window where you're holding up the line if you do.

I think that trying to legislate or make rules about common courtesy is a pipe dream. This made me laugh, as I sit here alone, waiting for my car pool gang. A sign like that would cause certain people in our town to do the opposite. Just because it's their right as Americans, and who's to judge "courtesy"? I wish I was kidding.
