I agree! This reminds me of a time I was in the drive-thru at subway the lady at subway told me she would be right with me. Maybe a minute later the car behind me started honking and was ticked I was taking so long. When the lady hadn't even asked me for my order. I should have payed for their meal and left a note that said I hope you have a happy day. Jen

Sorry, but I do that. What is even MORE annoying is getting back to work to discover an order is wrong. It takes a few seconds to open your bag and make sure it's right before pulling away. I sure don't want to either have to go back through the drive through, or worse yet, go park, go inside, wait in line, just because an order is wrong.

I think that trying to legislate or make rules about common courtesy is a pipe dream. This made me laugh, as I sit here alone, waiting for my car pool gang. A sign like that would cause certain people in our town to do the opposite. Just because it's their right as Americans, and who's to judge "courtesy"? I wish I was kidding. We've seen that here even

What's annoying is when someone makes sure their order is correct while still sitting at the window. I will never drive away without checking my order. Why would you? How are you going to get it fixed after you drive away? Nope. I'm checking while I'm at the window so I can get the problem fixed while I'm at the window.

The ones around here definitely don't have that rule. So you can only order a beverage? That sounds like such a pain for the people who go through the drive-thru everyday on the way to work and get just a donut & coffee or just a sandwich & coffee. Plus, I'm not sure they have enough space inside for people to line up during the rush times. The line of cars wraps right around the building during the morning and lunch time hours. Personally, I think you have to be pretty brave to place a giant order at a drive-thru. It's almost begging for something to get messed up with your order to ask them to do something so involved in a situation where they are trying to be as fast as humanly possible. I think that donuts and muffins are fine - the "no food" usually refers to none of their sandwiches or things that need anything more than being thrown in a bag/box. Interesting. I've not had any sort of delay when getting a warm food item so I didn't know it could be problematic in some locations. Thanks for the insight. It always surprises me a bit when you see differences like that from location to another in a chain like DD.

I'm not driving away to find out half of my food is missing, and then waiting in the drive through for another half hour to get it fixed, or parking and walking in to wait in line inside. I think this is where the size of the order matters. If you're taking a 20 second look at a carrier of drinks and a peek into a donut bag, you're not going to make my DD wait any noticeably longer than it already was. And if those 20 seconds matter that much to my timeline for the day, then perhaps I should have skipped my Dunkin' stop at that time. But if you're buying lunch for a dozen people in the check-out line, then ordering, receiving, and checking of that order are all going to be so much longer.

Yes, beverages only in the drive-thru. It's always been that way so I guess we are all just used to the rule. The shop closest to us gets crowded on Saturday morning with sports teams getting their donuts and muffins, but even then it's not terrible. Yeah, it definitely sounds like the interior space of ours prevents them from trying that kind of thing here. They maybe have room for a single line of 6 people from the counter to the vestibule here. I have to say, we had a week without power once, and we would hit that drive-thru each morning for 3 hot chocolates and 3 egg sandwiches, because it was still dark and cool at our house those mornings. I am so glad they let us order the sandwiches from the drive-thru, because my kids stayed in their PJs for those early morning DD runs!

We pretty much never eat out so when we hit the drive through it's just for coffee and sometimes a muffin. It's unbelievable how often that simple order is messed up.

Our DD had a sign requesting that multiple sandwich orders be placed inside. I would think that's common courtesy, but people are so selfish nowadays. I was running to Staples a couple weeks ago for work. Chick-Fil-A is on the way back and everyone wanted something. I wasn't thinking about it and went through the drive thru with six orders. I didn't mean to hold up the works but I so did. It was awful and I was embarrassed. The employee asked me to park in front of the store so they could bring my order out. I thought that was a good solution to my dumb move. Not a mistake I'll make twice! Yikes!

So, hey, wait, I have one more question. Do those DDs with the drive-thru limitations have just a beverage menu outside where you order? Or do they put the entire menu there to mess with you? Inquiring minds want to know!

I think that falls under common courtesy. Just like the morons who use drive up banking and sit there making out their deposit slip, rooting around in their car,and doing general jackassery instead of being ready for the teller when they pull up. Wait, wait, you have drive through banking???

Common courtesy! But there will be someone with a mobility disability and it will be the way store solves an ADA accommodation - it still happen. My pet peeve is person who refuses to move after dropping Rx at pharmacy and insists on waiting at the window instead of pulling into a parking space. I don't know how I manage to get behind that crazy every time. Face it. We are humans. There will be lines. We will grumble. And pharmacies?

You can drive thru the bank, the library, restaurants, coffee shops, tea shops, the pharmacy, and the liquor store. I'm sure there's more I'm not remembering.

Less than 20 branches I think it said, with the newest and biggest being at Slough!! We don't have drive through banking in this area - but we do have a drive through Krispy Kremes!!

Common sense would dictate that a large order would be placed inside where it would be much easier to make sure the order is 100% correct before heading back to the office or other place where a large number of people are waiting! But, part of this blame is on the store. They should have had the woman move into a space or pull ahead so that other orders could be taken.

I'm not driving away to find out half of my food is missing, and then waiting in the drive through for another half hour to get it fixed, or parking and walking in to wait in line inside. I have no problem with people taking a quick look to make sure their order is correct, but years ago I was behind a woman who took it to the extreme. There were 3 people in a mini van in front of me at McDonald's - a place not known for custom orders. They must have ordered at least 20 burgers - all special order - as well as different size fries and drinks. The woman driver opened each and every one of those burgers to make sure they were correct - one with ketchup and pickles but no mustard, one with ketchup and mustard but no pickles, one with mustard only, etc. The woman started to get irate when she saw they had regular onions instead of the tiny diced onions that are normally on them. She questioned the poor kid at the window about why the normal onions weren't on the burgers and he tried to explain that they ran out so they used regular onions. The woman told the kid that she should have been informed of that before she even placed her order. This particular drive-thru had a wall along it so once you were in line you couldn't get out without going the whole way through the line. There was a long line of cars and people started blowing their horns because they were so mad about having to wait so long on this van. They had to have been at the window for more than 20 minutes. I kept thinking that maybe somebody in that van was disabled but the odds that all 3 of them were was unlikely and when they knew they had a large special order they should have gone inside instead of the drive-thru. Some people just don't care about anybody else.

I saw a story about McDonald's the other day--it was just up on the newsline for one day really, but it said McDonald's will be cutting nearly half of the items on its menu and severely restricting what you can order at the window. Some of the larger more complicated burgers will no longer be available at the window. I just sort of scanned it, so I can't tell you when this is supposed to happen, but I can understand the need just based on this thread.

The sad thing is limiting the menu to only a few things really does hurt those who have no choice but to use the drive through. Just something to think about.

It would be nice if special cards could be issued to people like that. Not sure what the answer is Scrappower, but I agree it is a concern.

It never occurred to me that it was inconsiderate to place large orders at a drive through... I gave up thinking the drive through was faster a long time ago - I use it for convenience...
