Many friends have rising water in their homes right now. No flooding in our home as of now, but all the roads are impassable.
Third round of storms tonight passing through right now.

I have seen reports in the newspapers here about what a hard time you're having. Hoping the storms pass soon without any more damage....thinking of you.

I've just been reading about the awful devastation the storms and flooding are causing in Texas, and also Mexico. So many people and homes affected - it's a heartbreaking disaster situation. Hope the forecast is for the storms to at least ease very soon without more people being hurt, missing or worse or causing much more damage on top of what is already there. Will be thinking of all of you living in the area.

What's with Mother Nature these days? Is she going into menopause? Because she has been handing out some weird shit lately.
Take care and try to stay safe.

I've been up since 4, watching the news reports about the floods. So far it seems like they're focusing on impassable roads and people trapped on the freeways. I guess to make sure people see what it's like out there and decide to stay home this morning. We're used to street flooding here, but nothing like the footage of all the cars stranded with water up to the roofs. That's way beyond the norm. I've only seen a few reports of buildings being flooded, although I know that if the roads are flooded, the neighborhoods are too and there have to be a lot of homes and businesses with water in them.

Yeah, there were apparently people stranded all night on several freeways, but a LOT of homes and businesses on the southwest side of town have water in them. Brays Bayou completely overflowed its banks through a dense residential area.
My family is very lucky not to have water in our house this morning - several of my co-workers and families from school weren't so fortunate.

Thoughts are with you all, for sure!
My parents and brother are in eastern Kansas, and they closed the flood gates in their little town a couple of days ago because the river water was starting to rise over the bridge. They are still getting rain as well, and there is just nowhere for it to go. Thankfully, their house is on the side of a hill, so they really don't have to worry about flooding. Unfortunately, there are so many others around the country who do.
Please stay safe!

Stay safe! I am so tired of all this flooding and rain. I was very pleased to wake up to sunny skies this morning here in Central Texas. More rain expected this week though so it won't last. Austin is a mess too. It's a crazy weather pattern we are in.

I drove 500 miles from NE Oklahoma to our home just N of Houston yesterday and it was raining and storming practically the whole way. At one point, I had to stop and take cover in a McDonalds' restroom w/ about 40 other people because a tornado had been spotted nearby.
Every lake, river, and creek I passed was flooding. I can't imagine how much damage these storms have caused.

Seeing lots of posts on FB. Fort Bend closed schools today. Saw one pic and had to call my brother because I could have sworn it was his truck! Luckily while not at home at least he is at one work location rather than out on the roads! Praying for all my peeps in the Houston area.

this weather is crazy, Ive seen some videos of the floods that made my jaw drop. I hope everyone and their pets are ok same with those who were hit by tornadoes in several states. I don't think Ive heard so many tornado watch/warnings over my alarm system in such a short a period of time.

She has cancer from all the toxins we've been spewing at her Just hope it's not too late to get her healthy again. In the meantime I hope you, and all the peas in the area stay unaffected, safe and dry.

I'm really glad your home was spared, Merge. I was thinking about you last night, watching the storms move over your area. I saw pictures of the devastation at the apartment complex you mentioned earlier as well. Those poor people, and everyone else either bailing out or digging out from under their homes. We're all having to watch both the skies and the ground these days. Hopefully this will be our last week of this, and it will be a relatively calm one.

I was wondering how you fared with the rains. Is the new house high and dry as well? auntkelly - So glad you made it home safely. I can't even imagine how scary that drive must have been. I sat up until 2:30 am, in part because of how loud the storm was. We are in the area that got the most rain. Our street was flooded with about 15" of water. Fortunately the house sits up and the yard slopes down thanks to the City dropping the street 10" when they installed new storm drains in 2005, so we did not get water in the house. It has gone down now. DD was over for dinner/movie last night and ended up having to spend the night as she couldn't get out. She's going to try going home soon, but has to cross Buffalo Bayou so not sure if that will work. Just saw photos of what the Omni looks like and she has to go past there to get home. DH works downtown and was told not to come in to work today. He takes Memorial Drive in and would need a canoe today to take that route. Wow, glad you guys were OK. We had a lot of rain here but not even street flooding - there is a drainage canal off the bayou about half a block from us and it seems to keep this part of the neighborhood pretty dry. Blocks all around us had both street and home flooding. We had a little roof leak, we think due to some damage from the storm because it hasn't leaked previously in any of these recent rains. It's very minor, though - we feel lucky! DH, pigheaded, left a little while ago to try to go to work. I expect he'll either be back quickly or I'll get a call saying he's stranded - but there was no stopping him.

The worst part is, since they canceled school today, now we have to have students through Friday! *sob* And teacher work day is now Monday June 1st! OK, there are definitely worse things, but teachers nearing the end of the school year will feel my pain on this.

We are in a suburb of Houston. We got about 10" of rain last night, and our street at one point had probably 2 feet of water (we could have canoed down the street), but our house sits up high and we didn't get water in. So many others were not as fortunate. Many of my friends in central and southwest Houston have water in their homes or businesses. My family is all safe, although my sister and parents are effectively trapped for a bit. But we are all dry. Watching the video and seeing the pictures is surreal though. Reminds us of Hurricane Ike in 08 or TS Allison in 01.

I really don't want an extra day with students next week! We are giving final exams for 2 extended periods in the morning, then we are going about the regular school day, even having classes with students who have completed their final exams.

I hope Texas starts to dry out. Flooding sucks when it hits your house and property through no fault of your own. And now the water has taken lives. I'll keep y'all in my thoughts.

mother nature can be so fickle and cruel. California could really use lots of that rain to end the drought and Houston needs to have waaayyy less.

I saw it on cnn this morning. My thoughts are with all those affected. It looks scary out there. I saw horrible flooding this morning as well...it was awful. I hope that it dries up soon and that there is no more rain for a while. I have been wondering with all the tornadoes and floods what hurricane season is going to be like around here this year.
