I guess if they can afford to do it, more power to them! I would never do this but I wish I knew someone who did just so I could see what a party of this magnitude would be like Then again what kind of gifts do you give at a party like this? Gold plated duplos? Diamond encrusted dolls? Lol

Too bad the daughter will probably only remember a little of it. LOL I guess the parents and family had a good time.
I don't care much how other people spend their money as long as they are not spending that kind of money only to turn around and file bankruptcy the next week.
I'd like to see pictures of the party. As for party gifts, the birthday girl would get the same kind of gift I would buy regardless of the party the parents were throwing.

From this moment on I will never again spend even one moment feeling guilty if I exceed my own set budget on a birthday party.

For that amount, why not just take the 3 year old to a Disney park and celebrate there! I guess you would not have 220 guests then, but you could probably have a few close family/friends and come in at under 50k.

I guess I don't need to feel too bad then about inviting the four neighbor families and two families from preschool over to our house for a BBQ for DD's party then. We invited them because we shelled out for gifts for their collective SIX kids from the four families (three others are under 3), and now it's our turn, LOL. The two girls from school got invited because out of the ten kids in the neighborhood only one is a girl other than DD and it's pretty hard to have a princess party with only ONE other girl! It will be SO nice next year when she's in school and we can get by with inviting a few kids from her class to go to the bounce place or Chuck E Cheese or something! But we must be doing something right because out of the six invites, we got six RSVPs BEFORE the deadline and without any prompting at all! And they're ALL coming. Should be fun!

The father said he sees it as a family party. They have the money I guess. If you look at the expenses, I would say it does seem more like a party for adults with a side of kid party.

I'm just finding the Aussie name for cotton candy, "fairy floss" to be inexplicably charming.

I can't really complain about how other people spend their money, but......
Let's just say that what that family spent on one party would be life-changing money to me. It makes me feel sad thinking about it.

No but, they generated a decent amount of press about the kind of fabulous party they can throw at Caversham House. With Fairy Floss and liquid gold cognac! You can't buy that kind of press.

Would it be too over the top to break out the commercial cotton candy machine that I own for DD's party? Yes, I have one! DH bought it for me as a present years ago from someone that was closing their concession business. I don't use it all that often because it's a mess to clean, but this might be a good excuse!

I find it outrageous, and fear the child will grow up major entitled, but am happy that a whole bunch of people made money from the event.

crazy4scraps , please come back and show off the photos if you make a trash-sized bag full! LOL. The problem with that is it only lasts a day or two before it shrivels back down into a hard little rock of sugar because of the humidity here in the summer, and I couldn't eat that much that fast. And that makes me sad. It would be pretty freaking awesome though, wouldn't it? Hmm. Maybe if I sealed it in seal a meal bags?

(Photos are good, trips to the hospital are not!). Can't you put it in a giant bag and then divide it up for all the kids at the party?

Way over what I could afford for a party but it sounds like the birthday is an excuse for a large family party. I would do the same for my family if I could and they can well afford it. I say more power to them!

Ha, but you'll be asked to use it at PTA events from now to eternity- use caution

Ha, but you'll be asked to use it at PTA events from now to eternity- use caution The thing is big and it's seriously a PITA to clean which is why I rarely bring it out. We usually try to do it outside because it makes a sticky mess on the floor or ground around it too. And yeah, that thought about being harassed by the PTA has crossed my mind! We could always tell people we rented it...
