We're trying to figure out a list of movies to watch. We need movies that are suitable for a 7 and 10 (OK, almost 11) year old boys. We don't want anything animated/Disney-ish. Last night we watched Crocodile Dundee - the report was "it was OK but I'm not into romantic comedies". Ghostbusters was a hit - so we need something along those lines.

If you grab a copy of the current Entertainment Weekly, they put in a list of 53 movies every kid should see.

What about the Harry Potter movies? My boys loved them and started watching them around that age.
Too bad you didn't ask yesterday. TBS runs "The Librarian" movies (they were on today,) and you could have recorded them. They are PERFECT for that age. Lots of adventure and action, but nothing that would make you raise your eyebrows. (They star Noah Wylie.) They are on every so often, so you look out for them.
Here are a few others: -any of the Transformer movies. Fun, lots of action -all the Indian Jones movies -National Treasure (both of them) -Laura Croft movies -the Mummy movies (Brendon Frasier)

I bookmarked this one because the other day I was trying to think of movies for my 6.5 year old daughter to watch. Two of her favorites are Goonies and Home Alone. Lately she's liked watching The Neverending Story.

Awesome, thanks - keep the ideas coming. Think I might put a list together and cross them off as we watch them.

Percy Jackson Series Night at the Museum Series Journey to the Center of the Earth The Ender's Game The Sorcerer's Apprentice (Nicholas Cage) The Spiderwick Chronicles A Series of Unfortunate Events
Other favorites were mentioned above. Actors like Ben Stiller, Nicholas Cage, and Brendan Frasier seem to have a range of movies that appeal to the upper elementary/tween age group.

My 8 year old loves Daddy Daycare with Eddie Murphy. He's watched it so many times. Also the Indiana Jones movies.
Judy moody and the not bummer summer is cute. We watched the 1980's version of Annie a few weeks ago.

The first Percy Jackson not only scared my youngest, but irritated him as well. The monsters, especially Medusa freaked him out and the movie wasn't anywhere close to the book.
That said: Diary of a Wimpy Kids Scooby-Doo (live action) Any of the action hero movies Transformers Back to the Future Ghostbusters I and II

You have gotten some great suggestions!
I would take some of the titles and put them into amazon and below that amazon will give you a list of other recommended titles.

No additional suggestions, but after the initial Transformers movie, I thought there was too much cussing and innuendo in them for a 7 year old. Ticked me off because I feel they roped you in to the first one and got kids "addicted" and then got way too adult.

I, on the other hand, watched the one purely because it was...excit...really gooo...oh heck, who am I kidding. I watched it because Gerard Butler took his shirt off. Gerard Butler. NO SHIRT.
