What was your favorite vacation that was in the 7-9 days time period? We are planning a trip for this fall and have pondered many ideas and just feel like we haven't hit the one yet. Our anniversary is in November but we will take the trip in October due to dh work and November being a holiday month. Middle of the month works best for him too. We can go for about 7 days and no more 9 days. It would be just the 2 of us although we have pondered taking our youngest with us if it was a trip that had things for him too. We went to San Diego last month and had such a great trip. We are glad it was time for just us but we know for sure we want to go back there with him too. Legoland, Disney, the zoo, Balboa park and the beautiful ocean. But if we find a trip that isn't kid friendly we are good with that too.
We have done many caribbean cruises, a CA coastal cruise, Chicago, Destin/Seaside, Savannah an Charleston. NYC isn't on our wish list. We tend to gravitate toward places we have gone before if we loved them. We went to Santa Barbara for the day on our coastal cruise and loved that city. We thought about going to Santa Barbara for a few days and than driving up the coast and going to the Monterey area for the rest of the trip. We haven't ever been to Monterey.
Any ideas? ITA

Aruba. Can't beat it.
We also loved our honeymoon, all inclusive, adults only, 5 star resort in PlayaCar, Mexico.

We loved Paradise Island/Atlantis and we loved the Alaskan cruise from Vancouver Inner Passage to Seward. Just DH and I, we enjoyed Maui and Charleston the best. But Charleston is a 2-4 day trip, not 7+. If I could afford it, we would go to Rome/Italy if we were looking for that length.

We did Disney World after the kids were grown and married and had a blast! We also love Las Vegas. We both worked for a casino in Louisiana and made several trips out there. Would go again in a heart beat.

I may live close by, but we still hit the 'local' beaches (pretty much any beach on the west coast of Florida) for a week or so at a time.
You could look into Sanibel or Captiva...both are beautiful.

Absolutely Hawaii. I've gone several times, but my best trip there was for I think 12 days. The time was spent on Oahu and then Maui (I LOVE Maui). I've also done 7 days (Oahu only) and then 15 days (Oahu, Maui and Kauai). IMO, 12 days, 2 islands, was perfect.
DH and I went to Aruba for our honeymoon and we spent 10 days. We loved it, but it's a small island and 10 days might have been a little too much there.
My mom's favorite trip she always talked about was when she flew into Northern Califoria and took several weeks driving down the coast ending in San Diego. That's a trip I'd love to do.
**eta**Sorry, I just saw you were looking for 7-9 day trips. My suggestions were a bit longer than that, although Aruba for 7-8 days IMO is a good option.

Maui x2.
Loved it the first time, loved it more the second time and already planning a third trip for 2017! We are just a little family of 3, son is now 10 and it's all he can talk about still. We went in April the first time, not much whale action so planned our last trip for February and it was amazing! Both trips were in the one week range. Planning for 10+ days next time. Have fun with whatever you decide.

For a trip for the two of you, an all-inclusive in the Caribbean is great. My husband and I went to Excellence in the Dominican Republic and loved it so much, we returned to the exact same resort two years later. Our goal was sunshine, good food, and pampering which we received in spades.
If you like the idea of a road trip better, I think I'd opt for a winery tour in California. Lots of beautiful scenery and interesting stops along the way.
Europe (or many places overseas) is do-able in that time frame, but I'd hate to give up so much of my time to just getting there-and-back for a trip that short.

Since you will be going in October, why not somewhere that changing fall leaves?

My favorite ever (so far) was the week we spent in a town home right on the beach in Panama City Beach, Florida. You stepped off of the patio and right into the sand. It was just a few steps to the water.
I really want to vacation in the Florida Keys.
We are taking a big RV road trip to Yellowstone this summer. THAT my be my new favorite vacation!

We've been to lots of all-inclusives in the Caribbean, They were all wonderful, but hands down my favorite vacation was in Costa Rica. We spent two weeks in 4 different areas and it took my breath away. In many ways it reminded me of Colorado with all of the mountains and trees (in areas) and white water rafting, but the thing I loved the most was the wild life. None of the islands have this kind of wild life. One hotel we stayed in had three different kind of monkeys hanging outside of the hotel. Only only one flung poo. The reptiles and insects were enormous. I walked past one tree and an iguana fell out of it. I startled him. The bullfrogs were huge. I want to go back.

Europe!
We spent a week in London last month and it was awesome! You could also fly into London spend a few days, take the train to Paris and fly out of Paris a few days later.
Italy is such a wonderful country to visit too! If you did Italy, I would recommend picking just 2 cities over 7-9 days...maybe Rome and Florence.
The exchange rate right now is pretty good for the US dollar vs the British pound and the Euro.
I also agree with those that suggested Hawaii......love it there!

St.John U.S. Virgin Islands. We went twice for two weeks each time, although most people go for just one week. It is literally paradise. It is wonderful because 2/3 of the island is a National Park, so you don't have tons of buildings and hotels, but rather gorgeous nature and beaches. It's a mountainous, green island with clear blue water and the best snorkeling because even the water is part of the National Park, so everything is protected.
There are tons of beautiful beaches, you won't have time to visit them all. They are shaded with coconut trees and it's looks like you've landed on a desert island. Look at the photos on Google. It is my very favourite place in the world, and I've travelled quite a bit.

PS. St. John is also very safe. Something you have to think about nowadays. You can leave your towel and bag on the beach and come back and no one will have taken it. Last time we went was 2003. I've done research on other islands and that's not always true-this is true throughout the island. You can travel anywhere throughout the island and never be hassled by anyone.

My favorite trip my DH and I took was when he took me to Paris over Valentine's Day. We were only there for a week but it was so romantic and we saw a lot of beautiful things. I'd love to spend more time there exploring but the experience was awesome!
My late DH's hobby was traveling so I've been to a lot of places and Paris is still one of my favorites for that length of time.

We stopped off in St. John's as part of a cruise and I loved it so much. I've always wanted to go back for a week. I like Debbie's suggestion! Otherwise, both of our trips to Maui have been AMAZING and we are currently saving all of DH's hotel and airline miles/points for a return trip. I think your idea of the CA coast and a road trip sounds fun, though, especially since you already have some thoughts on things you might like to do.

Last October, to celebrate our 30th anniversary we took a Viking River cruise in the South of France and spent three days in Paris. It was wonderful.

Well, I've been to Iceland three times-- I love it there! I've gone for four days, 15 days, and 30 days. If you like nature Iceland can't be beat, imo. In October you'd be almost sure to see the northern lights, too.

Ireland. First, second and third best trips ever. I travel a LOT and I love everything. Very few vacations I've been on have been bad. If someone told me I could go anywhere, it would be Ireland.

London and Paris was our favorite trip ever. In country, we loved New Orleans. We took the kids on both trips and it worked very well.
You could do Boston/New England in October and see the fall leaves. Cape Cod would be fun, but I'd probably only spend a day walking on the beach. It will be pretty chilly on the water by then. But gorgeous! Washington DC is beautiful in October and the crowds are smaller.

I think my favorite vacation is the one I took in March for my 25th anniversary. We spent 7 nights on a sailing catamaran, island hopping in the BVI. fWe did tons of snorkeling. It is a lazy vacation. It is not a vacation I would take a young child. Also, if you take a child, you are required to pay for the whole boat. The boat we were on had 4 cabins/4 heads so it slept 8 guests. Two people we knew were with us and we had 2 other couples that we met on the boat. They try to pair you up with other people that are similar in age, etc. There is a 2 person crew that drive/sail the boat and cook for you. It is all inclusive, including alcohol, except for 2 meals on shore. I think DH and I both needed the relaxing vacation. The crew will take you to all the main sites like snorkeling at the famouns shipwreck The Rhone, The Baths, the famous bars Soggy Dollar and Willy T's, etc. I was VERY concerned about getting seasick. I got a prescription for the patch from the doctor and I didn't have any trouble.

It's a good time of year to be in Vegas-- moderate temps, in between busy seasons, etc. If you're the kind of people who don't mind renting a car and exploring, there's all that outdoorsy stuff outside the city (Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, etc). I personally don't think it's a destination for kids (I go for the gambling, and kids are absolutely, positively, not allowed to even think in the direction of the gaming floor) but there is stuff you can do with your kids there.

Our favorite was a cruise to Alaska (11 days). It was round trip out of San Francisco. Santa Barbara, San Deigo, Catilina Island, and Monterey are all beautiful.

I have two favorites. Charleston and Asheville. I loved going through the Biltmore house and grounds in Asheville. And I love Charleston and all the history. We went on a candlelight tour of homes, Middleton Plantation and several other things.
I also love the gulf beach.

Palm Island in The Grenadines. We flew to Barbados and then took a prop plan to Union Island, finally a boat to Palm Island. It was amazingly gorgeous.

A lot of our favorite vacations have been Caribbean cruises, but you've done that so our absolute favorite vacation ever (done several times):
The Canadian Rockies- hands down. Nothing else comes close. Glacier National Park- usually we do this together with the Canadian Rockies Alaska cruise Hawaii cruise (NCL- 7-nighter Honolulu to Honolulu- seriously considering this one again for our 30th anniversary next year
October is too late for Alaska cruise and probably the Rockies and Glacier too though.
We did a Canada/New England cruise around that time. Perfect time of year for that!

Hands down, my favorite trip so far was Morocco last year. While I was there for 16 days, 7-9 is totally doable. I want to go back so badly!

Alaskan cruise. We've gone 2 times and both times were absolutely amazing. If the timing/circumstances were right, I'd move to Alaska in a heartbeat!
