My husband and I both carry concealed, even at home. 100% of home invasions happen at home That said, your brother is an idiot. No responsibly armed citizen would ever...EVER pull their weapon unless s/he intended to eliminate a threat. Carrying is not a joke, not something to brag about. In fact, nearly nobody knows that either of us carries. Hence the "concealed" part. Your brother broke every one of the four rules of carrying a weapon. You have ever right to be mad and to think that he's dangerois and unfit to carry a weapon, because he is. I agree. I wouldn't want to be around him - for sure not my kids! (or gkids). Did he need to take a class to get a 'conceal carry' permit? I'd be checking what the regulations there are - and staying away from him.

So I'm over at my parents' house tonight and my brother is here. I was showing my dad a video on their computer (it was on Facebook) of the kittens in my garage. My brother walks up and says "I have the solution for that" and pulls out his pistol and pretends to shoot the screen. Then he shows us that he has 6 bullets and there are 5 kittens and the mother so that's perfect. I don't care about the cat threat. What I care about is that there are typically 3 kids at my parents house - my son and nieces. My son will be here in an hour. I had no idea that my brother carried a gun. And he said he he it with him always. Even inside my parents' house. They live in a nice area. There is no danger inside their house. And my parents know he has it. I lost it. I used the F word on him about 10 times. He will be leaving when my son gets here because he is mad. And my dad is mad about the F word. Is his a common thing? To carry a gun around kids and in a house that has no danger? And to whip it out to show it off? No. Definitely not. Your brother is an idiot. My brother, who lives in northern Idaho and also has a concealed carry permit, would clock your brother upside his stupid head for being such an irresponsible moron.

Yubon Peatlejuice , are you going to discuss the gun thing with brother before the trip with your brother? Make sure he doesn't carry on the trip or something?

"That's the issue right there. You want to have guns all over your house, great do it, that's your choice. Do not ever expect to be allowed in my house with one."
I'm curious about this statement. Do you ask everybody that comes over to your house if they have a concealed weapon?

Ok so yes, your brother is an idiot, no doubt. Maybe he shouldn't carry. For those of us that do carry and are responsible (some of us daily, everywhere we go) we wouldn't do something like that. For those of you that lead on to being against guns, this is a free country, it's one of our natural born rights, in fact it's so free, your free to move to a country that has no guns. As for only allowing ex military or police into your home, you do know there have been many police and ex military who have shot themselves, others, or have had accidental discharges (in fact, more times than those who have legal carry permits, not knocking police, we need them in society and most do a damn fine job). While we're speaking of police, ask most police how they feel about armed citizens. Your likely to hear praise on ccw holders, how were their best backup, and how your with an attacker for 90 seconds on average, takes police 7 minutes on average to respond, your best shot at surviving is either by the help of a ccw permit holder or your own concealed handgun. I have been given lectures by enough police officers about not carrying even for just a trip to the gas station that I always carry now. My point, think a little more before you respond, and try not to post a shallow poorly thought response.
I love alias one-post-wonders. I'm always curious who's really posting.

I thought along the same lines. First post insulting folk and accusing them of shallow and ill thought through responses if they have a different viewpoint....interesting

Do you ask everybody that comes over to your house if they have a concealed weapon? While I don't believe this question was addressed to me I will answer it. If need be then absolutely I will ask the question. People carrying guns are today's version of an attractive nuisance. Or an accident waiting to happen and unfortunately it's very rarely the "responsible" gun owner the one injured .

The people that come over to my house are not gun owners. They are very close family and friends that share my values and I would have no reason to question them about it. Now, I do have one friend that comes over occasionally that is pursuing her concealed carry permit and when she gets one and purchases a firearm I will absolutely be having a discussion with her about my expectations when she comes over (which happens once a year or so).

Thanks for your response. Now with your friend that is getting her CHL, do you feel that your friendship will be strained once you have this discussion or will she be ok with it? I'm not trying to stir the pot...I'm genuinely curious how situations like this are handled.

She and I have been friends for 10 years and we have always had polar opposite religious and political beliefs but we are respectful of them and don't tend to have problems with each other.
