Hi all, I am a mom to a child that has sensory defensiveness, is highly gifted, and has severe ADHD. Oh, the parenting books I have read in the last 8 or so years! i was a big reader prior to children, but once I had kids, all I read was parenting books, I have missed reading for pleasure and am so happy to be back to reading again. I decided to try "The Fault in our Stars" and loved it so much, I began reading and cannot stop! I've read 3 books in one week, just finished "Beautiful Disaster" and would love to hear some suggestions. I like books that allow me to escape, so "The Shack" was definitely not on that list, lol!
i like: Summer reads some steam ok, but non 50 shades kind of stuff some heavy stuff, but nothing that takes up the entire book.
thanks in advance!

I would recommend The Greek Village series. There are six books, the first is called the Illegal Gardener. All the stories centre around characters from the same village. I found them enjoyable and thought the picture painted of a Greek village to be believable.

Any of the Jojo Moyes novels, very enjoyable. Sophie Hannah psycho/thrillers are brilliant but not too heavy. The Light Between Oceans, lovely, lovely book by ML Stedman The Husband's Secret - Laine Moriarty - great tale.
So many!!!

check out our "reading thread" every week...lots of good suggestions and the Goodreads website will give you a good starting point for genres you would be interested in.

You should join Goodreads.com. It's really cool, and you can see what's popular out there, and read reviews by regular people like you and me.
I've been in school for awhile and I work and I deal with teens, so I thought I needed to deprive myself from one of my most favorite things in life; reading for pleasure. But one can tire of school curriculum very quickly!
So far this year I've been tracking and I've hit nearly 30 books that have NOTHING to do with school. It's been such a joy! Some of the authors you might want to pursue if you're looking for current fiction authors:
Elin Hillebrand Anne Rivers Siddons Fannie Flagg Liane Moriarty Anna Quindlen Hannah Griffen Curtis Sittenfeld Jodi Picoult
Books I've enjoyed this year:
The Art Forger Wild Unbroken Harvesting the Heart The Goldfinch Every Last One The Fault In Our Stars The Hurricane Sisters An Abundance of Katherines The Husband's Secret Distant Shores

I need some books for the beach too. I think we must have a similar taste in books. I am so excited, Elin Hillebrand will be at a book signing in Rehobeth Beach while we are in Ocean City. I always bring one of her new books to read on our beach vacation, so I may have to go to the book signing!

How fun, maryland!!! Don't forget also your local library likely has books for downloads, too! I waffle back and forth between my Kindle books and my "real" books. I'm old skewl; I rather like the feel of books...

I really enjoyed Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah. Her covers are beachy looking and so beautiful. I also like anything by Diane Chamberlain.
I love goodreads! If only I could read half of what I add to my bookshelf I'd be happy. So many books, such little time.

I'm on book 8 of this summer ( a whole lot for me!!). Right now is a reread of To Kill a Mockingbird, but I have also read:
The Neighbor by Lisa Gardner Profiles in Courage by John F. Kennedy Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs Compulsion by Jonathon Kellerman When the Bough Breaks by Jonathon Kellerman Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn Past Forgetting, My Love Affair with Dwight D. Eisenhower
I have loved every single one of these and look forward to working my way through the rest of my pile (LOTS more Kellerman, I love his books).

I just finished a book that was just SO adorable. It was called "The Rosie Project" (Amazon link below) about a guy with Aspergers who finds true love. Think Dr. Sheldon Cooper if he fell in love with a more "normal" person instead of Amy Farrah Fowler (sorry, that reference will only make sense if you watch The Big Bang Theory.) I read it during a long plane ride and I embarrassed myself by laughing out loud many times. The Rosie ProjectPeople have recommended Good Reads, which I also love to keep track of my reading. I also recommend signing up for the Kindle Daily Deal. That's how I found the Rosie book, and it was that days 99 cents deal. I see in my link that the regular price is almost $10. Whatever you choose, happy reading!

I will echo many of the comments already. 1. Follow our book thread. 2. Join Goodreads; they also have a cool app. 3. Get the Kindle Daily Deals The best books I have read in the past few weeks are a few older ones: The Litigators by John Grisham The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate Water Walker by Ted Dekker In addition, here are a couple of more I read further back: The Book ThiefTo Kill a MockingbirdEleanor & ParkThe GoldfinchWelcome back to reading; I have rediscovered my love of reading within the past 12-18 months. I watch much less TV now and am really enjoying it! Our weekly 2peas reading thread will be here tonight. Also, we have a 2peas bookclub, run by Leanne, that will start back up in September. Lisa

If you like supernatural (vampire/werewolf) for grownups (ie, not Twilight), try Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series. First book is "Moon Called."

Bookbub is also a site to find inexpensive eBooks. Not all publishers are carried on Amazon and this is another way to reach readers.
