Hi Ladies! What are your go to embellishments for clusters? Right now Im stuck in a wood veneer and enamel dot cycle and need to mix it up. Ive seen buttons used and its very cute but then I need to buy every color of buttons! The ephemra packs are cute but they are hard to search through. Maybe I just need to know my stash better than I do? Any help would be mucho appreciated! Thanks

I pull out lots of misc things that match the layout. I pull various tag shapes, brads (new or older style), twine, a punched shape of matching pattern paper, a die cut word or stamped word, collection stickers, flowers, doilies, buttons, tickets, mini word stickers (old OA work great), enamel dots, bling etc. I'm not afraid of using my old stuff either like chipboard or swirls or prima flowers.
I like to start with a tag as a base and layer from there, sometimes I don't even leave that tag when I get done. I like 3 resting spots for your eyes on a single or double page layout, one of those can be the title with a small cluster near it . I just keep adding and taking away until I like it and it suits the theme I'm looking for. If I can't get started I look at my Pinterest Boards for inspiration.
Hope that helps.

Bottom layer is usually something flat like a label, die cut, washi, tiny word stickers. I like to stamp or put rub ons on the bottom/flat layer but usually forget to do it. On top of that is usually something to give it dimension like puffy stickers, flair, wood veneer, cork, twine etc. finishing touches might be ink, enamel dots etc.

Basically what's been listed already: buttons, stickers, enamel dots. I have an obsession w/enamel brads and I usually cluster those as well.

I'm obsessed with brads at the moment, tacked onto the end of a banner, center of a circle or flower, or clustered with enamel dots. The formulas above are good ones - something flat, something dimensional, little bits of texture and color added, triangular balance. Embellishment clusters are still something I'm trying to master.

Sometimes I pull out a star or heart punch and use those as one of the elements. If I want a little more "oomph", I punch several and glue them together so it's thicker.
I am really stuck on enamel dots. Even after all I have used, I still have a lifetime supply!

I have a trillion buttons. I have old old hand dyed buttons (Theresa's Hand Dyed ones for those who remember), I have Bazzill monochromatic ones, I have Junkitz, Making Memories, and the Doodlebug polka dotted ones. There are more but I forget what they are called. Dress it up maybe? I have 50 packages of them. I use a lot of buttons!
I have brads. I bought every colour brad I could find. I learned how to make my own coloured ones. Let's sat I have and use brads on every layout.
I have flowers. I am and always will be a Prima fan. I do clusters and I also use spray mists on my layouts to give colour and interest.
I don't do flair. I just don't get it and don't like it. Well, I do like October Afternoon flair, but that is it.
I had some wood veneer people make lots of shapes for me. i have plenty and I love using them on layouts, too. I really love them! I ran out of ideas and haven't ordered any in a long time. (If someone could show me a binder again of different shapes I could have made I would order more. I love my wood veneers! I just don't have any more ideas.)
I also like chipboard embellishments and am going to attempt a couple of recipe albums. I need to get started on that.
I have other stuff, too. Lots of it. That's just what's coming to mind right now. I bought tons and tons of Heidi Swapp "stuff" from Advantus and honestly hate it all. it is in a container destined for a friend. I hated all her designs.
I have lots of embellishments from Heidi Grace. I love her stuff. I always have and used to order it wherever I could get it from. Her stuff was so me.
I also love my Melissa Frances embellishments. I have 3 packages of old time labels which are so nice. I love them. I don't know where they got put as it was a long time ago but I do love them. I hope they turn up one day!

I love to pull out my punches for the bottom layer. I usually use a scrap of one of the papers I used on the layout. Things like scalloped circles, regular circles, hearts, stars, banner shapes, tags, labels or file tabs. I have these most used punches in a drawer right by my desk and that works well. I then like to pop dot something, like a sticker or label or piece from an ephemera pack. Or I use something else dimensional, like wood veneer, flair, printed chipboard, layered sticker or flower, etc. From there I like to add something smaller like a button. Or maybe a sprinkle of bling or enamel dots, ink splatter, paint droplets, etc. I'm another one totally stuck on enamel dots and brads Addicted! Teresa Collins has some enamel dots that are a bit bigger and they come in shapes. I have some stars in various colors and those are fun! She also makes some gold dimensional adhesive hearts. Those are fun as well (but add more adhesive to the backs of these - they don't seem to stay stuck). So you might want to try looking into that kind of thing if you're kind of tired of the plain dots.

I tend to do a lot of clustering or "sprinkle" (my term) layouts, so I like lots of tiny details and small embellishments.
For me:
-sequins/gems/or enamel dots -puffy stickers (I am a puffy sticker addict!) -labels/label stickers (October Afternoon makes my favourite label stickers) -chipboard pieces (I like these in varying size shapes, like hearts or stars) -little word stickers -strips of washi tape -mist splatters

I usually start with a tag, add some journaling on it and then work around that by adding ribbon or trim, small diecut shapes or stickers, flowers, brads or buttons depending on what the theme of the page is. Then I'll add some stuff on or around the title and in another spot too to balance things out.

Yes! Puffy stickers! How did I forget to mention those?! I've been using the little ones along with a few enamel dots as part of my cluster too. Amy Tangerine has a set that I bought at Tuesday Morning and I've almost used them all up. I wish I had bought more! There were a lot of cute little ones - little hearts, flowers, starbursts, etc. perfect for clustering!

This thread is making me want to scrap right now...too bad I'm at work. I do all the ideas posted...and a nice larger script die cut word stapled/sewn over top is a nice finishing touch.

I love this thread! I have to admit, I have a lot of punches I use for cards but never thought about using them for scrap embellishments. Ive also never thought about pop dotting a sticker embellishment to create depth, I love that idea!!
I plan on watching more Shimelle videos this weekend. You ladies rock!

Here is a link to an OA layout. I like the cluster with just 2 circles punched out of patterned paper and a little sticker.

I haven't seen tickets or pinwheels listed, but both of them are really cute in a cluster.

I'm going to make a cheat sheet from this list! So many great ideas all in one place. This is totally off the subject, but the little pig in your avatar is the cutest thing ever, loco coco! Is it your pig?

I was ready to preorder/order again and then looked and saw everything was just the same over again so i am good until something totally new comes out!

I signed up for Shimelle's new class and watched the first video. She did three clusters. The one at the top left of her pair of photos was large elements. The one at the bottom right of her photo pair was very similar elements, but in a medium size. At the very top left of the page, she did the same elements again, but they were small. It really worked for me.

I am bookmarking this thread. It's so full of ideas and inspiration! I have so much stuffed into my craft space that I forget about half of it. I haven't used brads on a layout for ages and I have a ton of them in every shape, size and colour. So...next layout has brads!! Maybe even a grommet!

alittleintrepid - I can't remember the last time I used an eyelet. Maybe it will have to be a challenge for us. My favorite t-shirt I ever saw said "It's all fun and games until someone loses an eyelet!"
