Some people have more money than sense, in my humble opinion. I just don't have the mentality to pay that kind of money for any purse, no matter how much money I had.

I wouldn't pay over $900 for any article of clothing, except maybe something formal. But I'm a simple person with simple needs.

I'm too cheap to be willing to pay more than $30 for a purse. Then again, I don't think I've ever spent more than $10 on a purse.

Not that purse but I would for a purse I loved- especially if money was not an issue.

That exact purse? No, it's not really my style. But sure, I can see spending $900 or more on a purse I really liked. We are comfortable but definitely don't have millions in the bank, and I have a couple purses that are $500ish. They don't seem extravagant to me and fit in our budget just fine.
Everyone has different priorities and different financial situations.

Yes I have paid over $900 for a purse but I would not buy that purse for any amount of money. Double wow. Really? Purses are my splurge. I guess I don't think anything about it because I know others have their own 'things' that they spend money on. (smoking, cars, etc) I figure if I am debt free and pay for it with cash that is not earmarked for something else, I am good. I currently only have 4 purses in my closet, all of them pricey. But I have carried them exclusively for years.

You are right each to their own.

I would pay $900 for a purse if it had $850 inside. Okay... maybe $800. Maybe. I would pay $900 for a purse with the manufacturer's name on the outside if it had $1000 in it. You've gotta pay me to be a walking advertisement. ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/U60p50mxzUNFaJHP0XeB.jpg) ETA: I'm not criticizing anybody who likes outside labels. It just drives ME crazy.

I would if it had $897 cash in it.
Ha, Amelia, I didn't read all of the responses. We think alike.

If funds were unlimited, sure I'd spend that much. Right now expensive purses aren't something I think or care about, but with unlimited funds I might change that. At the moment, I always find something under $100 (with sales and coupons) that I really like.

I know this is going to sound snarky, but to those that have spent $500 to $900 on a purse can I ask why. Are they really that much better or is it just the big name thing?. I have this purse that I just love. It is very well made and still looks brand new after using it for over a year. Everywhere I go I have people telling me how much they like it and wanting to know where I bought it. The truth is I bought it at Goodwill for $3.00.

I would pay $900 for a purse if money was no object, however, I wouldn't spend it on that bag.

I'd pay 900 for it if it was filled with 8 one hundred dollars bills, and 3 twenty dollar bills....

No, I'm too frugal for that!!!! The last purse I bought came from Wal-Mart and it is denim and I have been using it for three years. I paid under $25.00 for it and it still takes care of all my needs.

Because I never would have or been able to while I was younger, even if I won the lotto or something, I think it would be hard to pay that for a purse. Too set in my ways.
(I think if I was born rich, and was used to it, maybe then)

Not for THAT particular purse. Other things? Yes. Primarily for gifts. If I had the money? Sure. Why not? People buy all sorts of things for all sorts of reasons anf oftentimes it has nothing to do with wanting to show off.
I hate the undercurrent of judgment in threads like these. I'm sure some of the "thrift find" peas would not be thrilled by a WHY would someone buy THAT?

Not for that particular purse, but I have Lanvin flats and I love them. I picked up a couple of pairs in new condition at a consignment store and considering what they cost new, I was happy to pay $40/pair for them.

Everywhere I go I have people telling me how much they like it and wanting to know where I bought it. The truth is I bought it at Goodwill for $3.00. For me personally, I *enjoy* my purse. I take great care of them. I have 4 purses - the oldest being 8 years old. And it still looks brand new. I've never had a busted zipper, threads coming off the purse, discoloration or any other mishaps with my purse. The leather has never cracked, or linings torn. My first expensive purse was something I earned by losing 50 lbs. I made a goal that if I lost the 50 and kept it off then I would buy this purse. And when I lost the weight, I bought the purse. Since then, I have come to love the 'easiness' of my purse, and save my money and buy a new one once I have the cash. And honestly, my husband has bought two of the purses I have without my knowing and gave them to me as gifts. When my husband and I met, we had no money. But things have gotten better and we live a comfortable life. My husband and I each have a 'splurge' fund, and this is what I save my money and splurge. As I said in another post, I don't smoke, and am not into Starbucks or new cars.

Not that particular handbag, I'm not keen on bags with a flap fastening on the front. If I had the money totally spare I might be tempted for the right handbag though!! ![:))](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cheesy.png)

If I had millions and millions, probably. But I'm not fond of branding being a highly visible element on my purses so I probably wouldn't buy that particular purse. But If I had millionS in the bank I also probably wouldn't be shopping WM either.

Everywhere I go I have people telling me how much they like it and wanting to know where I bought it. The truth is I bought it at Goodwill for $3.00. I have 5 more expensive purses. They are between 2 and 13 years old. They are all classic styles. I rotate through them regularly and like them all. They are very well made and if cared for properly, last for a long time. On a per-use basis, they are actually a reasonable value because even the ones that are a decade or more old are still in excellent condition. I work in banking and though I'm now home-based, for a good portion of my career, I was a commercial lender. Like it or not, how you present yourself matters in that field, a lot. Good bags, good shoes, and nice suits are the norm and expected. Even after I moved in another area of banking that isn't customer-facing, I was used to nicer purses and when I tried to go back to less expensive bags, I definitely could notice the difference.

Same reason a lot of people buy $40k car instead of $20k car. I've spent well over $900 on a handbag

If I had the kind of money where a $900 purse was something I would buy I would not spend it on that purse; but I'm sure there is a purse out there I would like better then that one.

I was not being judgmental When I asked why people pay that much for a purse. I truly wanted to know what the reasons were for paying that much. Never having the funds to do so I really haven't had a chance to compare the more pricy ones with the less expensive. And as far as being asked why I bought the thrift store one, I don't mind at all. I saw it, liked it and bought it.

I am not sure I would ever pay $900 for a bag. The most expensive bag I own was invited to a pre-launch party for Hayward. I purchased an evening bag. For a number of reasons the company did not launch until more than 5 years after the party I attended and I had actually wondered if the brand would ever come to market. They finally did recently - haywardluxury.com/store/ My bag looks like a smaller version of the double dowel clutch. Let's just say that I did not pay anywhere near the prices on the website.
