I just picked up an order from a kind of expensive middle eastern place and 2 items from my mezza plate are missing. It had the falafel, tahziki, hummus, and tabouli salad but was missing the spinach pie and the manakish flatbread "pizza". The entire plate was 13.00, and I am missing 2 pretty substantial parts. I emailed already, but I don't really know what I expect them to do. The restaraunt is about 30 minutes from my house, so I am certainly not driving back. What do you expect a place to do when this happens?

I'd probably expect something towards a future meal. Accidents happen and as long as they acknowledge it and try to make amends I'd be ok with it.

I'd expect an apology and a certificate for a free meal for next time, and/or a refund of the price paid.

An apology and some sort of offer for your next meal would be good. I hate it when stuff like that happens and it's even worse when it is from a place far away.

I'd expect an apology and a certificate for a free meal for next time, and/or a refund of the price paid. That. I am the person who stands there and opens every container/checks every package at the drive thru and in to go orders though. It's too easy to screw you in the drive thru (same goes for to go orders).

I'd expect a credit towards my next purchase.

I would expect to receive the missing items, next time at no charge.
I always check my to go or drive thru order, before departing.

A gift certificate equal to the amount of the missing food would be nice. But these days I might be happy with just a really sincere apology and not the all-too-common attitude you often get from so-called customer service based industries.

I would not expect anything. I would let them know next time I get something from their resturant though.

Back when I worked at a restaurant, if someone called us and said something was missing, we pulled their order slip, told them to hang on to the slip from their bag, and we would credit the price of the item next time they came in, provided they brought in their copy of the slip. I think that'd be enough for me, because really, what are the options?
1. Drive back to get it. (Not really worth it if it's more than five minutes there and back.) 2. Have them futz with the credit card receipt to refund me. (Possibly doable, but what if they F it up? Now I've got two problems.) 3. Gift certificate. (How am I going to get it? I am NOT comfortable giving out my address.) 4. Nothing-- you should have checked your order at the restaurant. (Maybe, but it's not my job to get the order right.) 5. Nothing-- mistakes happen. (Sometimes I'm in this mood, but even so I would still call and inform them of the problem to avoid it later.)
Yeah, I think just having the manager make a note that next time I have a $13 credit is my preferred remedy.

I didn't know if I should expect anything other than just the food I was actually missing the next time I visit. I know it is not a big deal, and mistakes completely happen, but I do think it is the restaurants responsibility to make sure the order is complete before they give it to the customer. It was a large order, and being a middle eastern restaurant there were several orders that had many components, I did look before I left, but there were about 20 separate containers and foil packages between our 4 meals. My friend just thought I should just get the items missing next time, the other two eaters thought I should get the entire mezza plate free next time, I was just wondering what you all thought. I am not going to make a big stink, I emailed them rather than calling because I hate doing stuff like that. If I ever hear back from them I will be content with whatever their decision is! Thanks for your input.

I've had similar things happen before. I would expect the manager or owner to offer to comp this meal or an upcoming one. It's his employees' jobs to make sure that the food ordered is what is delivered. Not to make good on that basic agreement will destroy his business if he doesn't deal with it immediately.

What do you expect a place to do when this happens? Guess I won't complain about my order yesterday. I just learned that Hardees will do their sandwiches in lettuce wraps. I don't think I've had Hardees burgers in 15 years, but I was craving one, and I could fit that into my calories for the day. Not a 'health' food, just a treat. I specifically ordered: "I'd like the 1/3 Low Carb Thickburger combo with a salad instead of fries". I didn't bother looking at it until I get home. Yep, 1/3 thick burger on a freshly made bun, with fries.

I'm curious why didn't you call the restaurant instead of e-mailing. I have always called if there was a problem. Usually they will keep a note of the error at the desk for my next order, that way they can address the issue immediately. They might not read the e-mail until the next day and then peoples memories aren't as good. Anyway, that's what I do.

I hate when this happens. UGH! Since my SO is a General Manager for a local-owned restaurant, I happen to know the outrageous profit margin on most restaurant food. Therefore, I would expect a full credit for my entire meal on my next visit to make up for my inconvenience and disappointment.

We order dominos a lot almost every Thursday for movie night. I always order a side of wings and a soda. Never fails they either forget the wings or the soda and sometimes both. I call and they always credit me a free pizza so next time I call it's in the system. They also send a 1/2 off postcard. They also bring back the missing items. You would think they would learn. smh
