Hello,
I'm trying to assist my cousin in making a small quantity of Invitations. We plan on cutting an 8 1/2 x 11' piece of cardstock horizontally, so we get 2 cards per sheet. She has information she wants to pre-print inside each card (with the text being centred on the right-hand side.)
I hope I'm explaining this properly. What I'm stuck on, is using a word processing program (open office is what I'm using) to format the page so we can do this. I can't figure out what queries to use in Google to be of any assistance to me. Is anyone able to explain, or point me in the right direction? Thank you in advance.

Will your wordprocessing program allow you to insert And move text boxes? And then can you turn those text boxes? Do You have a graphics program that you could use? Something like the old printshop program?
If not, you could cut the cardstock down the long way, cutting at 4.25. The cards would be the same size, but they would fold differently. You could then set up a wordprocessing program with two columns and simply use the spacer to move the information down to the bottom of each column

I generally use a really nice paper and write out 4 or 6 greetings or notices and cut them to fit the card (tearing looks good sometimes too)and attach them to the cards.
I want a corner piece of the cake. The one with the most icing.

IMO, the easiest way is to find the labels application and pick the one for a sheet of four postcards. Then put your text on the two right-hand postcards. Run your cardstock through, and when you cut them in half, you'll be able to fold and have the text inside.
Something else to look for is "subdivide page" but I don't think that made it into later versions of word and I have no idea what open office allows.

I use MS Word and do it the hard way. I type out my text, tab it over to where I think I need it and print on regular printer paper, fiddle with it, print again on same paper, fiddle again, using back side of same paper. Then FINALLY put in my good card stock (don't forget to change the paper type - I usually pick Photo Paper or Presentation Paper so the printer expects a thicker paper) and print, keeping my fingers crossed and hopefully it prints correctly.
(how's that for a couple of long run on sentences!)

Rotate your page orientation if you need it to be in a different direction. You also want your text box to be "above" the regular text and not in line to make moving the box easier.

Yup......text boxes! I use that feature when I'm writing newsletters. It allows me to easily move the text where I want it.
For photos/clip art check the web. There is a lot out there that could be inserted.

I also go into Word's preferences and change how a piece of clipart or photo react.
Preferences- Edit- Image in front of text
This allows me to move both text and image anywhere I need them on the page.

Well text boxes sound a lot easier than my method of using tables. I definitely will try to remember this for next time!
