I haven't been able to go for a week because we were traveling and out of town. Went today and worked out with my trainer. Went into the locker room to get my stuff out of the locker and I couldn't remember my lock combination! I have been using the same lock for about four months now. I normally go 4-5 times a week. Of course I have a picture of the combo on my phone (in the locker). I had to have my trainer come into the locker room and cut the lock off.
Turns out my combo was 34-0-26. I was positive the 0 was at the end. I was so hoping the lock had mysteriously broken during it's week of non-use. :-)
Then when I finally go in the car I spilled my water bottle all over my lap.
Just not my afternoon! I see her again on Wednesday...I need to go buy a lock that lets me set my own combo!

Oh no! How embarrassing! I guess the good thing about this is that it's over. I'm glad that you posted this. I just rejoined the Y today and I have to see if I can find my lock and remember the combination.

That is TOTALLY something I would do. My memory is horrific. My family loves to tease me about it but it does cause me embarrassing moments like yours lol.

Could be worse - you could have been sitting in a bathroom stall, checking your phone, and have someone walk in on you! I had locked the door, but the latch wasn't secure. We both were surprised, however I didn't want to go and work out after that.

You can buy a lock that lets you set a word as a code. Those work best for me because a word is easier for me to remember.

I came across a lock I used in high school gym class the other day and instantly remembered the combination. YET I have run back home to make sure I closed my garage door. Now I sit in my driveway and watch it go down.

Am glad it is not just me that this happens to. I had a complete blank about the PIN number to one of my bank accounts and after three tries, the machine gobbled up my card. I now have the number cunningly disguised as a phone number in my iPhone.

I went to the grocery store the other day and as I was checking out, just stood there staring at the keypad wracking my brain for my pin code. I use it ALL the time. But that day... it just wouldn't come to me.
I could totally see myself doing what you did with your lock combination.
At least you spilled the water while leaving, not arriving. You didn't have to do your workout looking like you had wet your pants!

I have never made the mistake of leaving it plugged in, but unless I check multiple times my morning commute is plagued with my questioning whether the flatiron will burn my house down before I get home!

Get a lock with letters! We found one at Target. It came with a long list of words that can be used.

And that is exactly why I have a lock with a key. It's on an itty bitty keychain that I put into my pocket. Of course that means that I can only buy gym clothes with pockets.
It's frustrating that my husband remembers numbers so well. If he's seen it once, he can recall it 30 years later.

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. Now I use a lock with a key. I put the key on a wrist coil key ring. That way it can go around my wrist or water bottle.

My high school lock was 14-23-0 from 32 years ago. That lock broke about 5 years ago and I was sooo mad because I cannot remember the combinations from any other locks that I have bought since then. When my kids went to school, I taped a piece of paper to the inside cabinet with their combinations on them. It's still there and my last child graduated 3 years ago. I think it's time for that to go after I make sure he doesn't have the lock somewhere.
Getting old is hell.

Not to one up you, but I have a more embarassing story.... Same scenario, they cut the lock off..... open the locker.... it is not my locker. I wrote an apology note, put some money in the locker with the note so they could buy a new lock, and never went back!

I always have my phone with my at the gym for music, podcasts, and fitness apps - I have a picture of the lock combination I took the day I bought it. Never forget your combo again.

Oh that would have been so much worse if it wasn't my locker! Luckily my lock was purple and I always use the same locker.
Love the idea of the coil ring for a key. I have a key lock but am paranoid about losing the key at the gym.

I use a key lock and use a safety pin to attach it to my clothes.

Wow! While I can see how you were embarrassed by that, I was expecting something much, much worse. That wouldn't embarrassed me at all. If you were to follow me around for a day or two, you'd see what truly embarrassing moments look like.

I worked at a gym in college and I always loved cutting locks off of lockers. Something about using those giant steel bolt cutters was so satisfying.

There's a reason they keep bolt cutters on hand. You weren't the first and you won't be the last.

Another reason why I use a lock with a key. I put the key on a safety pin attached to my pants.

I swear that is my most frequent recurring dream...standing in front of a locker and not be able to recall the combination. I have that dream at least once a week.
