I honk when someone ahead of me doesn't know how to merge properly

Very seldom. Mainly because I'd rather not get shot, thanks. We don't have to worry about getting shot here in Canada ... the most that will happen is the other driver will flip us the bird

Holy Toledo, that lady would drive me nuts. See what I did there? I am not a honker, at all. When I vacationed in LA many years ago I was on edge when driving cuz it seemed they honked for everything! You have to be a jackrabbit when the light turned green or you'd get a honk in milliseconds.

Only when someone is doing something stupid. And I'm a long honker.

Almost never; only in case of imminent catastrophe.

I only honk in situations that require it, safety issues, kids running into the street, people backing up who obviously don't see my car, etc. I've never seen an excess honker but I think I would find it entertaining.

I just get annoyed when 3 cars run a stop light when it is already green for the other people. I have blown the horn in those cases. But I guess their time is more important that the rest of us.
My 17 yr. old just got her learner's permit so we are practicing all the time. We joke that obviously there are people out there who are entitled and their time is more important than the rest of us (those that run red lights, block intersections, or who sit on their phone and don't move when the light turns green). We wish they had a neon color car or something so we can identify them, so we don't get mad when they do these things (yes, I am being sarcastic!).

Seldom. It's illegal here to honk unless there's "imminent danger" so you can get a ticket. Not everyone follows that law of course but honking is not near as prevalent here as it is elsewhere, like NYC.

Yes. I'm a New Yorker with road rage.

Not that often and usually only if necessary to alert someone of their stupidity- like backing into me or merging into me, etc. I do honk at deer on the side of the road to scare them away from the road. Yes, I don't know which way they'll run but I'm already very aware of them and so far all of them that I"ve honked at have run away from the road and into the woods.

In Japan we honk at everyone as a greeting. That means when you let someone in you honk (just lightly). When someone lets you in, you honk back.
If someone cuts me off I will honk for sure. Otherwise no.

I'm a Masshole, so yeah, I honk. But I honk when I'm angry, ie: you just missed hitting me because you were texting, or you pulled out and cut me off causing me to slam on my breaks.

I've always wished that cars had two different sounding horns, one that's light and friendly for a 'hello' or 'thank you' and one that's loud and ugly for all the negative stuff. Maybe someone will put that in cars one day. This will be proof that it was my idea.

No, it's asking for a road rage confrontation with some psycho with a gun. I use it for warning only, like if someone is drifting into my lane or whatever. Maybe a gentle tap if someone is clearly not paying attention and the light changed.
I'm a much more mellow driver than I used to be. I still swear a lot, but generally it's fairly good-natured and designed more to amuse myself instead of flying off the handle.

My name is Beth and I am a honker. I tend to honk when people do something dumb like open their car door to get out and I am driving in the lane beside them. People around here also honk if you are taking too much time to turn the corner. I figure the horn is there, so you should not be afraid to use it. I should clarify that I do not honk at people in Philly. I do not want to be shot.

I would say I do a quick beep if someone isn't paying attention at a light but a full on honk if someone is coming in my lane or I perceive some kind of danger.

Apparently I don't use my horn at all. I had my car two years before I realized the horn was broken. It is a used car and it has a thing where you can have the horn not beep when you set the alarm so when it wasn't beeping I assumed the previous owner set it not to beep. I tried to set it so it would beep when I got the car but it didn't work. All this time I thought I was just doing something wrong. Then someone cut me off a few months ago and I tried to beep my horn and finally realized the problem with the alarm beep was that my horn was broken and also that this was the first time I had tried to use my horn in two years.
I am also sometimes afraid to use the horn because a while back a young girl beeped her horn at a guy who was blocking the street talking to a friend for a long time. The guy got out of his car and came back to her car opened the door and stabbed her. We live in a small town so it's not just the big cities you have to worry about crazy people.

Very rarely. I also still instinctually try to hit the middle of the steering wheel when I do feel the need to honk, because that was where the horn was the first several years I drove, before airbags.

I'm not wearing my glasses and thought this said, "do you hook a lot?", and thought that was a pretty bold question, even for the Peas.

Almost never. I have had situations where I should have honked and didn't because the instinct to use it just isn't there. This is me. Just the other day I witnessed someone almost get run over and I actually clapped my hands and yelled watch out! My windows were rolled up, so there's no way anyone would hear me! As I was doing it I was thinking "I should be honking my horn instead of clapping" but honking is just not an automatic instinct. Julie

I was at my friend's house one night and we were discussing how wimpy our Subarus' horns were. And on my way home a big deer was standing in the middle of the road. I laid on my horn, and the deer didn't budge. . I don't have the Subaru anymore, but I'm still not much of a honker.

No. Emergency use only. Not for use as a reprimand, but then again, I'm from the South.

I honk when necessary. I give a light tap if they are too slow at a stop light. If they are coming into my lane they get a big horn. I laid on my horn a couple weeks ago for a older lady that ran a full on red light. The light had been green for me for the two cars before her and she hesitated and looked liked she was stopping so three lanes of traffic started to go, she decides to turn in front of us anyway, I'm already in the intersection, so I let her have it. She slowed down and looked at me wide eyed like it was my fault! Um, you have a RED light lady! This is the light turning into Costco and two or three cars will run the red every time. And the light lets like 8-10 cars on a green so it's not a short light. I wish a cop would sit out there, he could make a lot of money for the city.

I've honked my horn maybe 3 times in 20 years at bad driving. I've often given a quick toot to wave at a neighbour or whomever in my small town, more often than not they are in their yard not their car.

I didn't used to. But now that more people are reading their phones at the red light and don't know the green light is glowing, I give them a little toot so we can all go. We have one major intersection near us that if you miss the turn light, it's 4-5 minutes before it comes around again. Takes forever, so I don't have the patience to sit there for 5-10 minutes while you check your Facebook. I have zero patience for waiting at green lights and I honk! I also mutter and mumble about there only being one shade of green, no one providing engraved invitations to go, and getting off your phone and paying attention!
