I'm a Masshole, so yeah, I honk. But I honk when I'm angry, ie: you just missed hitting me because you were texting, or you pulled out and cut me off causing me to slam on my breaks. This made me laugh out loud! I'm from southern NH, so I know how you Masshole's are!!! I'm from Massachusetts (and currently live within 6 miles of the NH border). I hate the term Masshole but totally accept that it's used often. I have way too much disdain for the tens of thousands of NH people who come to MA to work and clog up our roads and then have the audacity to bitch about the traffic on 93 or route 3...seriously, if you don't like MA traffic then get a job in NH. (I'm totally not saying you do this!!) Sorry...my rant is over!

Only if a collision is imminent or if someone isn't paying attention when the light turns green- and I don't honk the instant the light turns, I give them a reasonable amount of time to move.

No, but dealing with the idiots who have no idea how a carpool line works makes me want to bang my head against something. Pro tip: the carpool lane is not for parking. You don't have to be in the exact same spot every day so your middle schooler can find you. The rest of us are tired of having to pull back out into traffic to go around you. I can only hope since I've been dealing with your entitled ass for three years now, that means your precious snowflake is done with middle school and you can go on parking in the carpool lane at the third rate high school he's surely attending next year. No way an idiot like you spawned a child who could get into a decent high school. That actually felt much better than honking at her, thanks.

Seldom. It's illegal here to honk unless there's "imminent danger" so you can get a ticket. Not everyone follows that law of course but honking is not near as prevalent here as it is elsewhere, like NYC. Where is it illegal? Seattle

I don't honk a lot. It is usually when someone does something really stupid that might get them hurt or hurt others. Then I give them good honking or two. Very satisfying...kind of like when you used to be able to hang up on someone by slamming down the phone receiver, lol. To the OP, that lady would drive me frickin' nuts! I think I would have to pull some passive aggressive moves on her

Only when some moron pulls out in front of me. Ticks me off that my horn automatically shuts off when I'd like to lay on it for much longer.

There's a fellow middle school mom that honks her way through the drop off and pick up line every day. Little honks all the way through.
No she does not!!!!? I can not imagine how her son feels. How embarrassing! Good grief. To answer the question, not often but I have when someone crosses over in a lane of traffic (usually because they are on their phone) or backs out of a parking place into me when it's too late for me to stop and stay back out of the way. If I can just avoid an accident I just stop and grumble under my breath. But there are times when someone comes popping out without looking and I'm already in their path. I honk so they know to stop before they crash into me. I do give a single, tiny tap to alert my son when I pick him up at his girlfriends house to alert him that I'm there. Not a honk, honk, honkkkkkkkkk.

I do a few times a week. Mostly if someone hasn't noticed a light has changed - I give the horn a tap; and if someone drifts into my lane and is about to hit me.
When I was in NYC a few years ago, I was shocked at how much the drivers there honked. It reminded me of Mexico LOL!

(I'm totally not saying you do this!!) Sorry...my rant is over! I'm sorry, I really didn't mean any offense! I only commented b/c SweetieBsMom's post literally made me laugh out loud. I read it as more of a tongue-in-cheek, "inside" joke for the area. I'm from Merrimack, but live in Denver now. I hope to live back home eventually. Darn my husband for having a good job that he likes out here. My daughter and I are flying into Manchester, NH in 10 days, I can NOT wait to be home, even if it's only for 9 days. Boston is one of my favorite places in the world...along with Cape Cod (in the off season!). I am watching the *my boys* lead the Astro's 2-0 right now (GO SOX!!!!). I've never worked in MA, so I'm not "one of those", LOL We definitely get the frustration of clogged roads, parking lots and stores at holiday time when you (general you, of course), come to shop tax free. I have heard plenty of complaints about the traffic getting in and out malls, etc from people coming from out state. Go ahead and look down your nose and feel your disdain though, that's your prerogative.

Almost never. I have had situations where I should have honked and didn't because the instinct to use it just isn't there. That woman would drive my friggin' nuts. Same for me. I honk once or twice every three or four years.

Ummmm yes I honk a lot I can't help it! I have even, as a passenger, reached over and honked when the driver (usually my husband) failed to. Oh the shame! It makes him crazy. So when I buy a vehicle it needs to have a good horn. Not a wimpy little "beep beep excuse me please" kind of horn.

Rarely, if ever! I get nervous about if for some reason, and if I need to honk (say someone is backing out of a parking spot and does not see me), I panic momentarily while trying to remember where the horn is, and then I don't push it hard enough to make any sound. LOL! Reading that back, I sound pretty lame.

My name is Beth and I am a honker. I tend to honk when people do something dumb like open their car door to get out and I am driving in the lane beside them. People around here also honk if you are taking too much time to turn the corner. I figure the horn is there, so you should not be afraid to use it. I should clarify that I do not honk at people in Philly. I do not want to be shot. We went to Boca Raton, Florida to visit my husband's cousin and my husband said they honk a lot there. I loved when they honked at people running red lights, texting when they should be paying attention (sit when the light turns green because they aren't paying attention, etc.), people blocking an intersection. I thought those jerks deserve it! But I wouldn't do that in Pgh! No one does that around here, probably afraid to!

I honked at the guy who stopped in the left lane of I-66 yesterday afternoon in 55mph traffic apparently to back up to take the HOV exit he had just missed.
I honked at the 47 geese that were standing in the middle of my street because I really needed to go home and pee.
Confession time: I gave the finger to the last person who honked at me. I was turning right on red into heavy traffic in the pouring rain and could see that the right lane was flooded and cars were having to get out of it. So I was waiting for the green so I could turn into the second lane and the car behind me honked at me really aggressively. I lost my cool and used my finger.

One way to get me pissed off is to honk at me the second the light turns green. Nothing pisses me off more on the road. Holy fuck... wait that extra fraction of a second so I can take my foot off the brake and put it on the gas. And when you honk, it's going to take that much longer to get going. So don't be an asshole and honk at people at intersections. Grrr.
I hate it when people use their horns, most of the time they are just being assholes, has nothing to do with danger or emergency or whatever. It's basically an extension of swearing. I very rarely use my horn and you bet your bippy that when I do, it's because there is an actual danger, not just to piss people off.

Not too much. It's usually when someone is drifting into my lane or someone doesn't go on green.
Usually I only lay on my horn if some jackass blows through an intersection when there is a first responder trying to go the other way and no one effin' stops. It's usually a paramedic. It makes me friggin nuts. Besides the fact that you can get into an accident with the ambulance, you are also wasting precious seconds that could cost someone their life. Sorry, pet peeve. Tangent over. :-p
