There's a fellow middle school mom that honks her way through the drop off and pick up line every day. Little honks all the way through. We all just kind of tolerate her...feel sorry for her son. I've also seen her around town. It's just how she drives. It's like if another car gets close, she honks. Her horn sounds like it's on its last leg.
Anyway, I realized that I rarely honk my horn. I've owned my new car since March and haven't used the horn once. Got to wondering about the honkers here...are you one?

Almost never. I have had situations where I should have honked and didn't because the instinct to use it just isn't there.
That woman would drive my friggin' nuts.

We live near a one lane stone tunnel (train tracks cross over it). Three roads meet there in a sort of Y shape. Anyway, there's a mirror there, but the intersection is mostly blind. Everyone honks as they're coming through the tunnel to warn any cars on the other side. So I honk pretty much every day I leave the house .

Very rarely, and most of those are from my elbow bumping the wheel.

I didn't used to. But now that more people are reading their phones at the red light and don't know the green light is glowing, I give them a little toot so we can all go. We have one major intersection near us that if you miss the turn light, it's 4-5 minutes before it comes around again. Takes forever, so I don't have the patience to sit there for 5-10 minutes while you check your Facebook.

No.
Honking, to me, is like shouting in the house.
There better be blood or fire to shout in the house.
There better be a darn good reason to honk on the road.
And there's different kind of honking.
A light tap honk is good for "Hey buddy, watch, you are drifting into my lane slowly."
A long, hold it down honk is for "Watch out you mutha-funka! You're blowing right through that stop sign and there's no way I can't get out of your inept, terrible driving way!!!"

Yes I honk a lot. The drivers in my state are self absorbed and unaware and I have to notify them that the light has changed, they are going to run me off the road and various other warnings.

I honk when needed, at a light when someone doesn't realize it has changed, when someone cuts me off, or is coming into the space I am already occupying.
When we were in Newark, it made dh and I laugh with how much those drivers honk.

Oh yes. I live in a neighborhood off a very windy road. VERY windy. It is two lanes and you cannot see around the curves. You better believe I have my hand on the horn going around those curves. I hope I scare the crap off someone before they kill or really hurt someone. I honestly cannot imagine driving on the wrong side of the road around a curve you cannot see around, yet it happens all the time and at least once a month I either have to come to a full stop or go off the side of the road.

I have been driving since 2001 and I have probably honked less than 10 times total. It never really occurs to me to honk and quite honestly I'm afraid of inciting road rage in people and getting shot. So I quietly and calmly tolerate pretty much everything on the road. I did honk one time when someone was changing lanes and they couldn't see me, they were about to plow into my car. I honked, they moved back over and we exchanged courtesy waves.
I will accidentally honk when I'm lugging stuff in and out of my car. It's a sensitive horn and the smallest brush of my purse will set it off.

Yes. There are a few lights near my house that maybe two or three cars can get through if you start moving immediately. I sat for the same light three times today because a truck driver didn't notice the turn arrow was green.

Not really. The horn in my brand new car broke and didn't work for a few months. Although it has been replaced, it really brought home the fact that really the only time I honk is when I get home with groceries in the car and want everyone to come help me unload them.

Not really...only if someone cuts me off or if they are backing up and I think they can't see me, etc. I do a lot of um, "verbal encouraging" which I need to tone down since youngest DD asked me the other day what a bitch was. I told her it was a stupid person who can't drive.

I do occasionally if someone is about to hit me or failing to pay attention when the light turns green. But if you listen to the news it's not very safe anymore. Apparently honking triggers road rage in loose cannons!

Very, very rarely. I let a little mini "good-bye" honk sometimes when I have kids waving goodbye, but when actually out on the road, I have to really feel like you are about to cause an accident before I will honk. And if I think you could cause an accident, but I can move to avoid it, then that doesn't count. I mean only when I don't think I can out-maneuver your stupidity. Which thankfully isn't that often. I'm not the type to honk just because you pissed me off. Half the time when you do that no one is really sure who you're honking at anyway. You just freak out a bunch of innocent drivers nearby who all think "Are they honking at me?!?!??"

I don't think I do however I honked twice at s charter bus this morning. The first time when he turned into the road I was on tight in front of me. No excuse for it and I had to slam on my brakes. Then later when he ignored the paved and well marked turnout. He was just an }%^*% with no excuse
I will tap my horn if someone doesn't notice a green light and hate missing long lights because the car in front of me isn't paying attention.
If if someone is backing up and I sm behind them in the parking lot. Did it one day and the lady refused to stop. she slowed saw me and kept coming out. Seriously I had to put my car and reverse thank God there wasn't anyone behind me. She would have hit me for no reason

Almost never. I did honk my horn this week so a guy backing up wouldn't hit my car. He hit it anyway. Oh man! The last time I had to honk my horn for real was due to some guy backing up too. We were both turning onto a small country road, coming towards it from opposite directions. i saw him approaching the turn, and since he had to wait for me to turn to enter the road, he clearly saw me. I follow him through the twists and turns of the road, and as we are close to the end of it, he notices someone he knows on the side of the road raking leaves, and stops (what I think will be briefly) to say "Hi". He is in a very large truck, and I couldn't see around him, so I waited a moment instead of veering out into a lane I couldn't see. Suddenly he throws the darn truck into reverse! Now even if he forgot I was behind him, couldn't the guy chatting with him see or hear me? Beats me, but man I laid on the horn that day!

Only when necessary; which was not my policy in my younger days. Let's just say that horns do wear out.

I've honked my horn more trying get out of my car with a stray elbow or purse than I have ever done on purpose. My attacks are mostly withering verbal snark that only my toddler is privy to.

I have a Civic. The horn is like a toddler mumbling. Almost can hear it but annoying because you can't quite make it out. So no, I don't honk much. Basically ineffective.

I rarely use my horn, but I certainly would if someone was presenting a danger on the road.
I honk if I'm picking up one of the kids, but just a tap to let them know I'm there waiting.
