I bought one of those portable kitchen islands at Walmart and put it together last night. I love it so much it's ridiculous! My desk has always felt too small and I would end up putting stuff in the floor and I just needed more room. I have seriously been looking at this island cart for over a year at Walmart and finally decided to buy it. A very nice man helped put it in my cart after watching me struggle with it. The sucker is heavy. It's really sturdy and good quality for what it is. Everything except for the back panel is thick wood. The top is solid wood; it has a drawer and a large cabinet on the bottom. Only took me about 2 hours to put it together and I am not good at that type of thing, so normal people could probably do it faster. It's counter height and right now I have my trimmer on it and I have put some supplies in the cabinet. I keep going in my room to look at it and just smile. Tell me other people do this sort of thing also, please! If anyone is interested it's the Mainstays brand and price was $ 120 or $130. I was afraid it would be junky but it's really not. In case you can't tell I really like it.

Yay!!! That sounds amazing. So glad you found something that works for you! I too do that "admiring" walk by when I've added something I really love to the house I have a big desk (it's a Pottery Barn project table knock-off) and I love the space. I can really spread out! I think you're going to love it!

My room is a mess right now, so there's no smiling involved at the moment, but I was really happy when I found what's basically a two-shelf hutch that I could put on top of a big desk I have. I found it at Bed Bath and Beyond with a bunch of the college dorm stuff one year. It is the same color as the desk, has padded feet so it doesn't scratch the desk, and gave me some much needed vertical storage! So yeah, I get ya!

Good for you! Having something that's nice and functional is always a great addition. I finally bought the matching shelf unit that goes with my Costco project table a couple of months ago, and I love having the additional storage and counter space.

I found an old butcher block cart at a flea market a couple years ago. One of my favourite things. I bought for the same reason of you. I use it for die cutting.

An portable island sounds like a perfect addition to a scraproom! And I totally get you walking in to admire it over and over again. I don't even have a scrap space, but when at a thrift store I came across the absolutely most perfect little shelving unit for holding wood mounted rubber stamps, I snatched it up for $3. Someday it will be hung, but for now sometimes I'll stand it up and put stamps in it while I'm scrapping, just to see them in it.

That sounds wonderful! I often walk by to look at something new or newly cleaned up! I'll open a drawer or cupboard to admire it

Cool! I have a large kitchen cart I purchased from World Market for my scrap desk. I love the space it gives and the counter height.
Yes! I don't really have a ton of time to actually scrap, but I always go in my room and just sit and admire! ha

I love hearing and seeing everyone's scrap rooms. It sounds like that island is going to work well for you. Let us know how you like it.

I stand up when I scrap and have had a kitchen island I got at Big Lots for about 6 years now. I love it! So glad you found something that's working well for you.

A portable kitchen island sounds perfect. At one time I re-purposed a stereo cabinet (the ones with the glass door front and the push magnet thing to open the door) for a Cricut station. Worked perfectly in the space I had. And we already had it so the cost was $0.
Yes, sometimes I just go and sit in my room just because I like it in there.
Enjoy your island.

Sounds great! I really need some organization! Nothing like a new item to get organized

Isn't it great when something just works the way it ought to?

You done good! Love it when the stars align and you wind up with something fabulous! Enjoy, enjoy I love my Pier 1 project desk and get a lot of pleasure standing at it creating. It was a slightly damaged piece (underneath where you can't see it) marked down and I got the manager to further mark it down for me, so great score!

I'm enjoying my little island even more after using it. I put embellishments in the drawer and I can lean over and grab what I need. Really like using the top for my trimmer. It's keeping my desk surface clear and giving me more room to scrap. I love not feeling crowded. So great when something works out they way you want it to.

That's awesome! And thanks for sharing. I have to say some of my BEST investments in tools and supplies over the years have come from the peas/refupeas. Very inventive and creative group. Of course you've also been the cause of some of my worst purchases....just sayin'.
