I personally think it's pretty low of them to be including paints in the kits. Most people have already bought them all or at least colours that they want. SC must have a huge number of them leftover because this is the 2nd or 3rd time they've included paints in the kits. I agree about the paints. The disgusting part is that if they're overstocks, it costs SC nothing extra to put them into the kit. This to me seems like a way for them to make money off of product that isn't moving on its own and avoid shelling out more to buy new things of value for the monthly kits. I could understand including new colours as they become available, but not the "take your pick of three colours we want to unload" approach. icequeen Not sure about the PL kit, but ONE of the three choices for the main kit was a new color, I believe (I could be mistaken, though, as I've picked up most of my paints as parts of kits or class kits. I recall a number of people being miffed that the first kit which included a silk screen did not include paint, so using that product necessitated an extra purchase for many people. I do think the point about possibly unloading a product that sells less well is valid, and I realize my enthusiasm would be massively tempered if I had bought the color theory paint colors, rather than receiving most of mine in kits.

Maybe, but I also remember awhile back when they included silk screens without paint (so you had to buy it yourself or have something unusable). And there was a huge kerfuffle over it. Since kits are planned 6 months or so in advance it seems like they would have had to plan the inventory to some extent. But things aren't always what they seem either, so who knows. The December Lollipop Guild SB kit just had this paint option and no silkscreen! They are so ass-backwards about everything. The mini-inks, I don't mind, I think those are fun, but this paint thing has to stop. If I wanted to do mixed media, I would.

Isn't that when they graciously offered a free paint to every subscriber? If they were giving them away for FREE - why are they also putting them in the kits? I just don't get it. Also for the PL kit, the paint is: Glass Slipper, 24 Karat, or Sunny Day.

I actually don't mind getting the paints in the kits. But I am not a person who has bought any myself personally. I could see being ticked off if you have already bought them all already. I don't really do mixed media, so the paints aren't something I would buy myself, but I like getting to test them out via the kit. And I would be annoyed to receive a silkscreen without a paint. For one of Ali's story kits you just got a paint (no silkscreen), which I thought was kind of weird. In her process video she used it with a stencil she already had on hand, which actually gave me ideas of how to just use the paint myself...
ETA: I am referring to Ali's Story Kits here. I don't subscribe to the SC kits

I'm still of the mindset that even if customers have a stash of products, a kit should be fully useable for its intended projects (e.g., PL, scrap, planner) with just the addition of adhesive, ink, and a paper trimmer or scissors. Don't include silkscreens without paint. Or paint without screens or stencils. You don't see metal dies or letterpress plates in kits even though a lot of us have die cutting machines. If the specialty item is such a great addition, make it useable right out of the box, not requiring an extra purchase or a trip to your local store. This especially irks me now that shipping is so high (adding one item above your sub makes a difference).

Also for the PL kit, the paint is: Glass Slipper, 24 Karat, or Sunny Day. craftgirl They offered the paints to PL subscribers after there was an outpouring of disappointment about how paltry the contents of The Underground kit were, and how those contents appeared to be haphazardly tossed together. The explaination given was that some items for the kit arrived and they were the complete wrong color, so the kit had to be rethought on the fly. That was also the kit which included the infamous book pages as embellishment (I may be the only subscriber who actually liked the inclusion of the book pages, but I was also happy for ANY additional textural contrast in the kit, as it had precious few embellishments....) There has been some inconsistency in the narrative as to if the free tube of paint/buttons/enamel dots were always planned as subscriber perks, or if it was in direct response to SO MANY people expressing disappointment in what a poor value that kit appeared to be. Either way, I think adding SOMETHING to the kit was a wise business move at the time. Fast forward almost exactly a year , by which time the TOUS had basically gagged everyone, and you have Brimfield, an equally-if-not-more-so anemic kit. The official response to Brimfeild was that the roller stamps were far more costly to manufacture, so the inclusion of one entailed losing another piece of cardstock and having an alpha with only one letter each.

I was thinking the same thing. I took them up on their offer, though ;-) I'll pay five bucks for one! I got the planner kit, too! Shipping was free because it's bundled with my kit. This may be my last month with SC but I'm not turning my nose up at free stuff!

According to the website it should be FREESCKIT for either kit. Of course with sc no promises it will actually work

I remember several card kits that had dies in them a couple of years ago when I subbed to the card kit. I think there was a CT member/contributor that didn't have a manual die cutter and had some novel idea for how to use it other than it's intended purpose.

I have to admit I hate the paint as well as the ink, although I hate ink more because I am not a fan of cats eyes…. between SC and Ali i already have 2 gold paints so was at least glad we got a choice.

So, I saw the MB post about the $5 planner or stationery kit yesterday and I've gone back and looked at both of them a few times. Neither one is worth $5 to me. How horrible is that? I'd pay $5 for the DK kit though.

Yup, they have definitely sent at least one die in the card kit within the last year. I only have a Silhouette for die cutting but I have a die in one of my kits. I actually didn't even realize whether it was for about 6 months!

If these two are representative of what they offer every month, I can understand why no one is subbing.

What does everyone think of the new Ashley G 6x8 albums? I read about new 6x8 albums during the chat, and I'll admit I got excited. I'm such a sucker for the wider spine!
I was bummed to see what was being offered. They're just... not my style, to put it mildly.
I try to just always get more neutral albums though, so that even if they're all not the same, they look nice together on my shelf. The pink and gold dot isn't bad, but I really wish they just had a solid line up of albums that they kept in stock!!
Ugh. I wish Simple Stories would just make wider albums already. Maybe I should email them about that... again.

I'll contact them (again) too!! Maybe we can convince them.

I was able to successfully alter the December album so I could use it for something other than Christmas. Actually, it turned out beautifully. But as much as I love being artsy, I want to save that for my pages! I would much rather buy albums from them than SC.

I checked out the deal for the planner or stationery kit...saw it was even for MTM subs rather than 6 or 12 mo. They really must need to move these. Sad thing is, even for $5, I wasn't tempted. Hell, they could say "here, take this for free - and free shipping, too! You pay nothing!" And I wouldn't be tempted. There is no faith in the quality of the product, in delivery of the product nor in getting it cancelled before getting charged for th next kit.
I know there are plenty who still drink the kook-aid and think SC is the bees-knees but I feel there are more out there like me than SC is willing to admit to and to accept.

I so wish she would run away from SC. She has good deal for products but as long as SC is involved, she can't count on them being produced correctly or in a quality manner.

I'd pay $5 for the DK kit though. I agree. Since I started decluttering last year, I'm not interested in taking advantage of offers just for the sake of it - I have to actually want the stuff and think it's worthwhile. I don't want a set of weird cards and envelopes sitting around - I like to make my own, and I can't honestly think what I'd do with the planner kit contents. So it's an easy decision.

Ok so I was checking out Marcy's instagram feed and about a month ago she shared a photo of a new planner (not the one that is available at SC right now) and is asked where to get it. She comments that it will be ready for 2017.
She doesn't say that it is for SC, but I am certain it would be. Right? It looks completely different than the one for sale looks like. I wonder if SC is changing them up, again? (of course, maybe it isn't SC at all....I could be completely wrong).
