So, I saw the MB post about the $5 planner or stationery kit yesterday and I've gone back and looked at both of them a few times. Neither one is worth $5 to me. How horrible is that? I'd pay $5 for the DK kit though. I agree. Since I started decluttering last year, I'm not interested in taking advantage of offers just for the sake of it - I have to actually want the stuff and think it's worthwhile. I don't want a set of weird cards and envelopes sitting around - I like to make my own, and I can't honestly think what I'd do with the planner kit contents. So it's an easy decision. This is how I am. I have spent the better part of two weeks sorting and purging. Getting rid of crap I don't use (SC stamps: I am looking at you!). If I don't love it, its going away. Life is too short to keep crap just because!

Who is manufacturing Cathy Zielske's physical products? She has stamps now and I know they're not through SC. And the myriad of other independent designers, like KP and a few others that I can't think of off the top of my head. I'm just curious as to how SC gets their grips into some of these designers and how/if they can get away from them. I love Marcy and Geralyn's designs but have no way to get them other than SC and that just ain't gonna happen.

What does everyone think of the new Ashley G 6x8 albums? I read about new 6x8 albums during the chat, and I'll admit I got excited. I'm such a sucker for the wider spine! I was bummed to see what was being offered. They're just... not my style, to put it mildly. I try to just always get more neutral albums though, so that even if they're all not the same, they look nice together on my shelf. The pink and gold dot isn't bad, but I really wish they just had a solid line up of albums that they kept in stock!! Ugh. I wish Simple Stories would just make wider albums already. Maybe I should email them about that... again. I like a lot of AG's stuff, but I wasn't that impressed with these albums. I do go for a range of colours/patterns in my albums so a different colour wouldn't necessarily bother me, but I'm just not a real fan of either design.

I'm still of the mindset that even if customers have a stash of products, a kit should be fully useable for its intended projects (e.g., PL, scrap, planner) with just the addition of adhesive, ink, and a paper trimmer or scissors. Don't include silkscreens without paint. Or paint without screens or stencils. You don't see metal dies or letterpress plates in kits even though a lot of us have die cutting machines. If the specialty item is such a great addition, make it useable right out of the box, not requiring an extra purchase or a trip to your local store. This especially irks me now that shipping is so high (adding one item above your sub makes a difference). icequeen I absolutely agree about the kits needing to be useable out of the box. My first thought of how to make that happen with Lollipop Guild was to use the paint as a stamping medium. However, if that was the intent, I think someone should have done a project or two highlighting the technique on the blog during December. I also think the stamp set(s) should have been more conducive to creating all over patterns with paint stamping. That said, I found the main kit stamps for both the Lollipop Guild PL and scrapbook kits extremely 'meh' - it appeared to me that the stamps were clearly a total afterthought, ESPECIALLY for the scrapbook kit - such a mismatch in scale, and yet another string of generic phrases in a tiny San-Serif font. So derivative of the Cayonlands main scrapbook kit stamp, only stripped of any features which would engender enthusiasm. Valium stamps.

mom anniefb I keep looking at my craft corner that is so full of so much stuff and keep thinking I need to organize. And, with a very soft/tentative transplant date on the horizon (if things go well with a bone marrow biopsy next week, I could be going in by the 15th), I feel the need even more so. I have every bit of faith that all will go well, but I can't help but feel like I need to declutter just in case it doesn't. I can't fathom my husband having to go through it all. I realize it should be the last thing on my mind right now but it consumes me some days! LOL. Anyway, like you two, that's another reason I can't justify buying subpar products - even if they're super cheap. And that stationery kit is beyond subpar. Someone compared it to Dollar Store stuff but honestly? My Dollar Store carries pretty nice cards and stationery. And they have way better planner supplies in their office/school supply aisle.

Yes, I've seen the digital shops but I'm a physical product girl, so those never help me. I think Marcy sells digital through her own site as well. But if I want physical product, I have to get them through SC.

abr79 Prayers for you! I have complete faith that you will come out of this, stronger than ever! I think if I were in your shoes, I would destash as much as I could. Not because I wouldn't want my husband to go through it all, but because I would want it to be ready for me once the transplant was complete! You are gonna beat this and one day will be able to be creative again!

Don't know where exactly, but there are quite a few companies who say the same thing about their stamps - Papertrey Ink, Altenew, Wplus9 Design Studio, SSS branded stamps, Concord & 9th etc etc. Some of them (including PTI I think) will be using Stewart Superior who manufacture photopolymer stamps and inks.

I actually am very keen on the black/white one, but want to wait until I read positive reviews of these specific albums after reading multiple accounts of how disappointing the new ABM albums are, as well as Kelly Purkey posting about the disappointing quality of the new handbooks. I really hope that manufacturing link has been rectified, as I do LOVE the 6x8 albums I have picked up from SC (DD 2013, Farmer's Market gray herringbone for DD 2014, Clean Slate handbook first release, and a Clara stripe for DD 2015. I may not exactly *finish* any of these albums, but I love having the smaller size to work in when the mood strikes! )

You are gonna beat this and one day will be able to be creative again! Absolutely! abr79 I think the destashing might be a nice distraction so that you can make room for all the new, fun supplies you'll need to document your post-cancer activities . A friend of a very glamourous family friend went on a Cancer Vixen inspired purge of her closet before having a mastectomy, and pitched out all the "sensible" clothing that she'd accrewed because she "needed" it - her general take was that, if she had to cope with cancer, she would damn well do it in fabulous shoes, and to hell with the notion of if they were appropriate or not. I think her summary of her recovery was something like "one breast and better dressed". Almost 20 years later, and, as far as I can surmise from the photos I see on Facebook, sensible clothing has remained banished!

I'm sure she can't because of some type of contract with SC though. But so many people would love that stamp!!

There's one called Bookworm, that is the cutest book stamp set, that also includes a book review stamp. And it's much bigger than Cream Soda.

kellyv I was wondering if she's possibly edging towards a scrapbooking hiatus, given all her product design duties... It seems to me that she's posting far fewer projects, BUT that could be an inaccurate perception on my part.... I don't think that is correct as she is designing for Crate Paper now. I so wish she would run away from SC. She has good deal for products but as long as SC is involved, she can't count on them being produced correctly or in a quality manner. She has been very quiet in regards to SC. I thought it was very strange that after her Planner came out she wasn't promoting it much. If I had a physical planner manufactured by a big company I would be shouting from the rooftops. Just the other day I saw an announcement on Instagram that Marcy Penner is on a new design team. I want to say Pink Paislee but I'm not sure. I was surprised to see her on yet another DT. Hopefully that means she is moving away from SC.

I wish one of these book sets would have a "Book Club" stamp.

Wow. More and more it seems like the Studio Calico design team has gone awol. I follow a lot of them on Instagram and almost everyone is designing for someone else as well, and due to this rotation most of them are featuring other product way more frequently than SC product. It sure is taking the focus away from SC when I compare what it was like a year ago to now I'm shocked!

Ok so I was checking out Marcy's instagram feed and about a month ago she shared a photo of a new planner (not the one that is available at SC right now) and is asked where to get it. She comments that it will be ready for 2017. She doesn't say that it is for SC, but I am certain it would be. Right? It looks completely different than the one for sale looks like. I wonder if SC is changing them up, again? (of course, maybe it isn't SC at all....I could be completely wrong).
If I'm looking at the right photo, it looks like Emily Ley's Simplified Planner. I'm wondering why she would be using that planner over her planner. Emily Ley did announce that she will be adding two additional styles with this new release.
But, I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right photo.

This is the photo I was referring to. I love Marcys work but just can't support her with the SC connection. I have no clue who made this planner - but in the comments she says it will be ready for next year so I tend to think it isn't yet available. View Attachment
Looking more closely, I'm pretty sure I'm wrong. I think Emily Ley's is just slightly different.
