Being able to get people to drop $60 a head, and still show that you don't know squat about the legalities behind marketing? Clearly someone knows how to spin and sell snake oil. However, an ethical business owner who fears the government may want to have a little sit down with her to ensure this doesn't happen again. You have to wonder what would've happened if someone just reported them vs warning them on IG or FB that they were breaking the law. I 100% agree with you. The bolded part, however, may be where there are problems and why this keeps happening. I don't remember all of the details...but I do know that a few years ago SC was finally called out by someone on 2Peas for using "copyrighted" names for kits (such as famous songs, etc). Someone reported this to a legal entity; either way - SC stopped doing that ASAP.

Omg that is just the funniest thing ever It's sad, actually. It is truly a train wreck. This company used to be so awesome, and now it's super shady, but still influential. I really hope they don't turn people off to this hobby. I have to agree. Studio Calico had so much going for it, but I think one of the issues is they got too cocky. And then stretched too thin. It's just not the same.

All of this is just mindboggling...you'd almost think you were reading a bad spoof of business management! My dh is shaking his head right along with me about the whole situation.

I know people still love SC's products, but I just can't understand how people want to continue to do business with this company. This is probably the most shady, sneaky, full of shit company I've come across. They continue to pull crap, and get away with it. They delete, lock, ignore issues, yet people still put up with it. WHY? So there was no mention of Internationals not being able to participate, yet at least one international did purchase something to be entered, even though it was supposed to be NO PURCHASE NECESSARY, and they find out after the fact, they're not eligible. I can't wrap my brain around this. How does this company continue to get away with this? And how do they still have a a following? I'm sorry that probably sounds harsh for those that still love their stuff, but this company isn't changing. And, their bull is getting worse. They aren't going to change. I said this somewhere earlier in the thread: fool me once, shame on you; fool me once shame on me. This company does this crap over and over and over and yet people keep going back for more. I don't get it. SC will always have its fans. They know that. That’s precisely why they get away with what they do. I haven’t any answer why; I can just guess that a lot of people really love their kits and are willing to tolerate what’s been happening. Maybe a lot of subbers don’t even read the MB nor do they care. If you visit their MB, even just a few times, you’ll clearly see a pattern. A new egregious policy is being enforced or some whatnot got messed up and the MB explodes with collective complaints and indignation. A week or so passes, there’s new stuff to be had and OMG! gotta-have-now kicks in. Then another mess occurs, anger again, then sneak peeks of cool stuff and all is good once more. This cycle repeats itself over and over. Just look at Wal-Mart. How many times have you seen or heard complaints about them? And we’re talking about thousands upon thousands of complaints and organized groups agitating for change. And yet people continue to shop there. Just my personal opinion and please don’t throw the tomatoes at me all at the same time -- I don’t hand over a bigger stick to a company so they can beat me more.

This is what happens to a business when the criteria you use for hiring people consists of them kissing your butt, drinking coffee and wearing cute outfits. I would really like to know how many of the key executives hold advanced business degrees and held similar positions at similarly sized companies. As a company moves from the mom-and-pop store to a multi-million organization having experienced people to guide the growth is critical. If you are a narcissist, you cannot listen to anyone as you know it all. Hence, all of these issues that continually pop up.

I think people on the MB tend to be heavily invested. They're multi-kit subbers and purchase add-ons and other products each month. However, how many people are on the MB on a regular basis? A couple hundred? How many people sub? Tens of thousands? If you only have one sub, the price changes weren't all that awful, especially if you like the product. If the changes aren't affecting you, then why would you care? And if you don't check the MB frequently, you'd never see all the craziness of missing product and other fiascos.
I think people will start noticing when the product changes. They've already cancelled the card kit and I'm sure lost many subbers there who didn't want to convert to the new stationery kit. I think if they change the scrapbook kit to 9x12 papers or if the paper counts continue to go down (like we saw this month with the cardstock), they'll lose more there as well.
I think the PL kit has to be 'safe.' I'm sure BH had a detailed deal worked out with SC and I'm betting that included card counts and number of embellishments/other product to be included every month. As for Ali, I'm sure their contract is highly detailed as well. BH and Ali have to represent a huge chunk of change for SC, so I would think SC would want to keep them happy. If they're not, they'll leave and pull more customers away from SC.

Seriously!!! Can't make this stuff up! It's crazy.
I like that when you go to their main page, one of the images is the "good enough" card
I think that's their company motto. Followed by "sorrynotsorry" Now this made me LOL....

Is it too late to report them to the FTC? Seriously, this latest fiasco is just crazy! If anyone has copies of the original posts they really should file a report. The thing with the kit names was when they named them after Sweet Valley High Books and TM character names. I can't remember the BS excuse they used on why they changed them after they posted them in reveal.

I wonder if by closing it and backtracking they can get out of any fines.

I had to giggle - April posted a layout using the Scrapbook kit and had to have used more than one alphabet to make her title. SMH No one else's kit came with two alphabets.

I am not sure what all is involved in reporting though. It just irritates me that they crap on people all the time.

I wonder why Ali doesn't open up a message board on her site. I know it's the same umbrella, but people would drop SC and go there, I think.
Although given how things at SC are going, she's probably smart not to.
I don't know how many people know about this place. I only just found out about it myself, and I like to think of myself as fairly active in the community.

seriously, how do they not have someone on staff that knows about that kind of thing? They're a big company!! It's mind-boggling. It's because they hire their friends or "hip people " from IG...They do not have very competent people there..that's why almost every week their is an apology for one thing or another.

I really wished Ali did her own thing..I really respect her but I think SC will take her down with them..she needs to start thinking of plan B fast. SC has pissed off a lot of people and now has a 'not so good' reputation,I will be very worried if I were her.

I just regaled my boyfriend on all the recent sc drama, and after listening attentively and being sympathetic, he responds, "now those are some first world problems. That's basic bitchness right there." Couldn't help but laugh at the truth.

I hardly ever checked the boards or knew what people were saying.I just got the kits and it was so automatic.I have never even participated in their reveal chat.I just trusted them, gave them my money... and that was that.. UNTIL they changed up everything and I went to the boards to checkout what others were saying and I was so shocked to find out all the drama that has been going on(that apparently I missed) and that just put a bad taste in my mouth. The fact that they want me to resubscribe in Jan and all that bull has totally turned me off

With regards to the comments about the high view count, I have no doubt this thread is being monitored, they'd be silly if they didn't. goldenblind221 @skellinton did post on the SC boards that she was starting a thread here, but it might be hidden somewhere in those silly reply things, I don't remember. Going back to the high view count, I am guilty of contributing to that. I check in here quite often, daily if not more often, but I just don't know that I can add to anything that has not already been said, so I don't bother posting. Sometimes I am just speechless, like nothing would surprise me anymore & I have no words! I've also been thinking - would they try to have a go at/threaten anyone on here do you think? (This question requires no answer, but...) which one of you is 'blue' over there, trying to stir the pot?

oh, one more thing, I did cancel right after the Brimfield Reveal. So glad I did, what with the lack of product in that kit & other recent happenings on the MB. I have absolutely no regrets, which really surprised me! I am so proud of myself. Unlike those of you who got nothing, I did get a couple of "are you sure?" emails & a request for feedback. ha, I must special hahaha No thanks. Not interested. Too little, far too late. I was such a fan & have been there since almost the start. I had lost my mojo a bit with all this shit happening, but am happy to say that I have just now finished unpacking some unused kits & other purchases that I had lying around & I am starting to feel the urge to get scrapping again. I do, however feel sad that I refuse to buy into DD this year, and that I'm even thinking of giving up my AE kits when my commitment is finished (through no fault of AE if you're reading)

(This question requires no answer, but...) which one of you is 'blue' over there, trying to stir the pot? If this is actually someone from here, which I sincerely hope it is not, let's not turn into SC trolls. We can vent and rant here, but let's not go over there all crazy and start ruining it for the folks who still enjoy themselves. It's getting hard enough to do that without that kind of help.
