Time has slowed down today. I look at the clock expecting that time has advanced at least 30 minutes and its only been 10 minutes. Today after what has felt like an incredibly long period filled with with many tests, unknowns, questions, delays, fear, phone calls, journeys and waiting.... endless waiting but now looking back seems to have passed in a flash, my dad who has long been well and was fit and healthy (or so we thought), is having a triple heart bypass. The operation is expected to take 5 to 6 hours. All being well we are in the last third. The wait is agonizing. Everything I have tried to do today has not gone well. So I am hoping that all the goodwill is going to him. I am so grateful for this hobby that gave me the push to ask questions and capture his stories. I'm praying really hard for your dad and your family. These things have a tendency to run longer than expected, so try to hang in there.

@northrigg Your post made me go back to my PL from 2012 and, sure enough, my Dad's surgery was postponed from June 11 to June 14th (first 12th, then 13th..)! They kept pushing him back and then the day of surgery, he was supposed to go in first thing in the morning but they pushed him to 5:30pm. It was incredibly frustrating, so I hope you hear soon.

I understand the agonizing wait. I went to the ER on Christmas Day because my blood pressure was high. I end up getting admitted because while they were looking to see if I was having a cardiac event and trying to get my BP stable, they found lesions all over my brain. Waiting on the results from the lumbar puncture on January 2. It feels like every day is dragging by. Prayers for your dad's surgery! Happy New Year everyone!

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers. It was a very long wait yesterday. My dad made it through surgery. My mum has been to see him and she says his colour is better than she expected. He is in pain but otherwise doing as well as can be. The nurses even had him stand for a short time today. Thank you for modern medicine. aggiebonfire00 - I hope you get a diagnosis soon and it's nothing serious. It's scary not knowing and having to wait. As icequeen says we will do the worrying with you.

I am supposed to be seeing the neurologist on Monday. Hopefully they'll have more answers. I'm trying to stay within the Memorial Hermann system, but if anyone from our area has recommendations for a neurologist, I'd appreciate it. I keep joking that each lesion is a different personality! If I don't laugh, I will cry! But regardless, I am looking forward to 2017! Happy New Year everyone!!!

They have to keep their knowledge current all the time since they are teaching it. ***Don't forget about or be afraid to get a second opinion! We liked and trusted the guy who did my mom's first hip replacement . We never thought that all the complications that followed were his fault or due to lack of skill....until she had her other hip replacement from a different, much more skilled doctor. The second doctor's incision was 1/5th of the first, she didn't bleed out to the point of requiring multiple bags of blood transfusions, etc. The very skilled doctor seemed rushed during the regular appointments, but he was part of a group who is the official ortho team for the college and professional athletes here in town. After the second hip replacement, we understood why they had such a great reputation. ***Do you know your community pharmacist very well (or anyone in the medical field). Sometimes, they can give you hints about who is good and who is not. ****Got any friends that have epilepsy/seizures or even frequent migraines/headaches? Those people would have seen a neurologist at some point. I wish you the best of luck with your health and test results, and that your doctor is both compassionate and brilliant in his field.

I know it's a bit of a commute, but if you want the best, that's where you'll find it. Memorial City also has a great neurology team (complete with a neurology unit with specialized nursing staff, should you ever need it). Having worked all over the Hermann system over the course of 10 years, I can say with certainty that if it were me or my loved one, I would prefer those two locations. Neuro is so weird and sub-specialized that a recommendation to a particular neurologist or neurosurgeon would be kind of hard to make without knowing more detailed information, but as far as general neurology goes, I like Drs. Joanne Kim, Godofredo Rossi, and Harold Kurlander, respectively, at Memorial City.

We'll see how it goes this time. I got one too, but when my phone went to update my inbox the email from them disappeared. I can't recall if I set up a rule in my inbox that those automatically get deleted (which I've done for all Becky Higgins emails because despite unsubscribing dozens of times I still get her fucking emails) or if they tried to recall the message.
