Hi Everybody! I don't know that I qualify as a refugee, since I am still on the fence on my sb sub and on the boards a little at SC. But the boards are so dead there and I miss all my old friends who have left. I am hoping to find them back here.
I've been experimenting with other kit clubs for a while. I did a blog series with reviews of a bunch (I had no idea how many are out there) that was planned before all the sc changes started. Right now I sub to Citrus Twist Kits and Clique Kits.
I really love my Citrus Twist kits and they have a great mix of add-ons. This month is my first month with Clique kits and I was mostly sucked in because they were featuring Cocoa Vanilla products - I had been wanting to play with their stuff.
I feel like all the changes and drama at SC have sucked all my creativity and desire to scrap right out of me and am hoping I can get it back here....

I've found that since I let go of hope at SC, my creativity was jump started. I hadn't scrapbooked since fairground and then this week I made 6 pages! It was like a weight lifted. I've been so upset with their practices, and taking the 2 sheets of cardstock sent me over the edge. I gotta tell you, I got brimfield Thursday and was fuming. There was less in it than the PL kit! I reread the contents and there was no mistake! I even posted on IG my discontent. But I missed the people. The friends I've made. You'll like it here

I'm as appalled as everyone else here to see, hear just how far down things have gone at SC. Even though poor business practices, poor ethics, and multiple SNAFUs have been commonplace for years now - this really has reached sadly epic proportions. Knowing what we do about April Foster's past behaviors, it makes sense to me that things are now snowballing out of control. Always in the past, she could reach out to 2peas and and have a MB topic deleted - but she is powerless over this MB. I'm sure she is desperate and I'm sorry that she couldn't have learned lessons from the past so that SC could have continued to be the excellent kit club it was in years past. People have spoken out because they wanted/want things to be better.I appreciate lizacreates logical, sensible advice about being unemotional and non-inflammatory in posts here, too. I think it's excellent advice. We are all aware that this board is being watched by lots of eyes. Be honest, be straightforward, but not a troll. ETA: I was removed from SC boards a couple of years ago for speaking truths, and I've always striven to be professional yet direct and honest in my communications. Just noting this, so that it doesn't seem that I am scolding anyone - anyone can be banned from their boards! Professional or unprofessional, the truth is not well received at SC. I just want to encourage us to all be adult, and not juvenile, in our attempts to make a positive difference!

The Ali products I have have been good but I've just got them as a one offs. The last DD kit I got did two years and I used it all. It had problems with albums, page protectors and wood veneers though. I actually have plenty of Christmas stash though and I just saw the gold Project Life album in 6x8 which I really like. I like the main kit but don't love it so I'm passing on it. I do wish it wasn't SC that supported her however.

Hi Julie- I'm also over there some and a newbie here although I've had an account for a long time here. I love the sc products but the value is so much less than they charged. Brim field was super thin!! I think the stuff is so cute but can't stand their business practices! They are awful!!! I miss how the boards used to be too. I don't know how the CT stays around. I feel bad fir Ali but she's making a profit from them too- I think she needs to put pressure on them to step it up if she's going to stay associated with them. eta- aggie and abragg I'm bummed you two were my favorite posters at sc!!!

Hi juliee! Welcome! I also got my scrappy mojo back about 2 weeks after I quit my sub. Plus, outside of this thread (which is awesome because a lot of my favorite SC peeps are here) there are great scrappy discussions, some great challenges (which I'm trying to participate in once I start feeling better) and a nice gallery with lots of support. lizacreates the contest was running for about 24 hours before they "corrected" their mistake. A few people had already purchased those kits in order to be eligible. And, if I'm not mistaken, a few people DID file an FTC complaint before changes were made. aggiebonfire00 what is "the blog"? SC's blog? What did I miss?

Skellinton - YES, but WHEN did they change the rule? Had they already started collecting entriesBEFORE the change? By the time I saw the rules, they had already complied. I'm not arguing with you (pls remember that I am not against anyone here, I was also an unhappy SC sub; I just prefer to deal with facts). Because if they had changed the rules to give an alternative method of free participation BEFORE collecting entries, then they are in the clear. If anyone here truly believes that what they did is against FTC Contest rules, then I urge you to report them. However, before you do so, ensure that you have proof of when (time) they changed the rules and the time they began collecting entries. The contest was up for at least 24 hours before the rules were changed. However, immediately after posting the updated contest rules (where you could write an essay to be entered), the giveaway was closed. That, of course, made the write-an-essay bit unrealistic since no one could submit one! The other confusing thing was that the linked OFFICIAL rules said the contest was open until the 5th at midnight, but everything the staff was posting on the MB and Instagram said they were closing it early. So which is it? We'll never know--I asked on their Instagram account, but of course never heard back. I know they were reported at least twice to the FTC for this incident alone. I really hope others are reporting them for other crap they're pulling.

Awwww! Thank you! I have been aggressive on the SC boards the last few weeks. I should have just stopped going there instead of wasting my time and keyboard strokes and done something more productive like making cards and scrapbook layouts! But I really had just had enough! I feel like more often than not, I was posting praise on layouts or contributing something worthwhile on a thread. Whatever.

Welcome, Juliee! And do not feel badly about being in both places -- like a number of people here, I still sub at SC and am rooting for them to get their act together as opposed to imploding. I really like a lot of their products. But so much there right now is downright baffling.
Speaking of baffling, I haven't had email from SC in I do not know how long. I generally know what is going on because of this board and their Instagram, but I don't get emails. I had messaged Rob about it before he left, but he left, and no one followed up. So I actually don't know if I am getting duplicate packages. Hopefully not. I ordered a lot this month because I hadn't purchased an add on in ages and got a bunch at the Labor Day sale. If I had two boxes show up and hadn't read this thread, I would have no idea that there was an issue and wouldn't know not to open one or that SC had a plan for retrieving the duplicate, however ill-conceived that plan might be.

It's like the seedy underbelly of the scrapbooking world. But, dang if it isn't awesome to see so many people, albeit anonymous, who feel the same as us!

If it's the same smackblog that's been around for years, that place can get really, really nasty. I know if not this blog another one then, that would personally attack 2Peas members, insulting people in general, their kids, their weight, etc. Just a lot of nasty crap. Then there would be a good ole' discussion on a company or products. So, if it's the same place that's been around, put on your big girl panties.

And I definitely am not a saint with my own foul-mouth but there are some pretty nasty comments out there that are pretty personal. Not sure if that's the place for me...but the SC smack is entertaining so far!

Yes, definitely not the most...savory place on the internet. And yes, sometimes it can get really nasty and people are questioning other people's character and morals and that type of thing or insulting people based on weight or other habits which has nothing to do with anything. I stop reading when it gets into that.

Yikes. The photos on SC of the kits don't look that bad, but I know they're staged to seem full. Also, someone else had mentioned that the Scrapbook and PL kit had the same transparent pieces and the same enamel dots pack. I looked and they pretty much do! The transparent pieces are the exact same designs, just slightly different colors. Same with the dots. That'd suck if you got both kits... PL: Scrapbook:

$37! Yikes! And if you have to pay exchange from another country its more. I have some points left and was trying to spend them yesterday and while trying to keep my shipping costs down, I only put smaller stuff like journalling cards and a smaller stamp set in my cart. Shipping wasn't bad and even after my points it would cost me $35 but when I figure in the CAN rate of exchange a couple of packs of journalling cards would cost me over $50! I just couldn't do it! So I'll probably loose my points but really is it much of a loss?

It will be interesting to see what happens with the PL kit. It's tied to Becky Higgins as the only 'official' Project Life monthly sub kit. I'd think that if they wanted to make any changes, it would have to be agreed upon mutually first. I like BH and although she's never involved in the MB like Ali is, I respect her a lot and think she's very upfront and honest like Ali. I don't think she'll want her name attached to a big mess.

I'm just going to type one answer here for Skellinton and cade387, just for convenience. However, before you do so, ensure that you have proof of when (time) they changed the rules and the time they began collecting entries. cade387 - Kindly read my prior posts. Folks, I'm on the side of angels here. But pls be careful in the words you use. If you continually use words such as "illegal," bear in mind that unless you can prove your statement to be irrefutable fact, your statement can be construed as libel against a company and a violation of fair trade. As stated by others, yes the contest was running and had entrants for 24 hours or so before they changed the rules. For those 24 or so hours they were running an illegal contest.

Also regarding illegal activity--I think a good lawyer could possibly argue the Amelia dies as a bait and switch. Dies were listed in the preorder contents. Then they weren't going to arrive in time so they were removed from contents, listed separately at what was it? $20? I don't recall but then nothing else replaced it in the kits, price never changed. Some people said they preordered just for the die. And then told they would have to purchase separately. I'm 100% positive that's a bait and switch. It if isn't then it should be. I've only been around a year. I can't imagine stories from people who've been there longer. It was Baxter with the die bait and switch. Unfortunately even though it said on the preorder page if anything was missing prices would be adjusted under their actual TOU/ guidelines they have clearly spelled out that they can alter the contents of what you buy at anytime and there is nothing you can do about it. I asked an attorney about that because that one seemed so egregious, but they were fully able to do that and no one had any recourse.

This is the part that covered their bottoms for the die fiasco, although it was longer and went on about how they did not guarantee contents would be the same etc. "Studio Calico may make changes to any products or services offered on the Site, or to the applicable prices for any such products or services, including any applicable shipping and handling, at any time, without notice. The materials on the Site with respect to products and services may be out of date, and Studio Calico makes no commitment to update the materials on the Site with respect to such products and services."

This is why they can terminate MB users, "Studio Calico may delete or remove (without notice) any user content and terminate access of any user to the Site in its sole discretion at any time, for any reason or no reason. In the event Studio Calico deems user content to be in violation of the Terms of Use, but elects not to immediately terminate the user’s access to the Site, it may, but is not required to, notify the user of such violation. Upon the third violation, Studio Calico shall terminate the user’s account and all content may be removed from public view, at the sole discretion of Studio Calico.
Notwithstanding anything within this provision or these Terms of Use, Studio Calico reserves the right to suspend or terminate any user’s account with or without notice to said user for any reason, at the sole discretion of Studio Calico."
It is kind of like being an "at will" employer, you can terminate anyone for any reason at anytime.
