I placed a sort of biggish order at ModCloth on Monday morning. It still hasn't shipped.
I've contacted their customer service and posted on their Facebook page and they have been completely unhelpful. According to them, even though qualified for free shipping, I should have paid for more expensive, faster shipping options if I wanted them to PACKAGE it faster! That's crazy, right? This information is also not disclosed anywhere on their website. I actually find this policy misleading and deceitful.
Just a warning about shopping at ModCloth, this is definitely making me reconsider ever shopping there again and making me question if I'll even keep the clothing or just return it all for a refund because I'm really annoyed and at this point would like to take my money elsewhere.

Do they have a shipping policy listed on their website? I think we've all gotten so spoiled by Amazon and the like and how fast they ship that if anyone takes over two days it's too long.

I would cancel the order. Slow shipping alone would bug me, but the unhelpful customer service would put a nail in it.

The website does say 4-9 business days after the order is processed. You've been waiting 5. While I understand your frustration, you do owe them a couple days for processing, plus the 4-9 for shipping before getting upset. Shipping

Does anyone remember the days when 4-6 WEEKS was typical?
If the website said 4-9 days, give them a little more time.
if customer service is truly awful, that would affect my view more than shipping.

My order hasn't even been processed yet. It's still pending/waiting to be processed.

I didn't expect 24 hour turn around time like Amazon or Old Navy, but I do think my order should be packaged in less than 5 days. That's not unreasonable. I do think it is unreasonable to tell me I need to pay extra for faster shipping for them to PACKAGE it faster.

They are first processing the people who paid for faster shipping.

Here is their shipping information. Note that the days listed are for TRANSIT time, not for packaging time, which is what I'm complaining about. Nor does it say if you pay for faster transit time, they'll package it faster:

For some reason I can't copy and paste, but here is what it says as the top of the attached link:
"How long does it take for my order to ship?
We ship all orders as quickly as possible, but please note that there may be processing delays in shipping during sale events and peak shipping days."
May be you ordered in one of their peak shopping days that is causing their processing delay? While I'd be annoyed, I wouldn't contact them until it has been a week.

No, I get that that the 4-9 is transit time. What I'm saying is, they still might be able to get that order out and to you before the end of next week, which would be quite reasonable. Even if they take 5 days to process the order, they could still get it to you in 4. Still under the 9 days.

They're slow to process. I was shocked when I placed my first order with them. I've had orders with free shipping and that I've paid for shipping. I can't recall a big difference in processing time based on shipping choices. They're just slow IMO.
That said, they have super cute clothes. DD and I love them so we allow A LOT of time if we're purchasing for a specific event. In general, we suck it up and wait. I placed an order around the same time as you and it's still waiting to ship. It'll probably go out next week and arrive the following week. I hope.

If they had included an average processing time on their website I would have known what to expect and wouldn't be so annoyed.

I know I was looking at them a few days ago because of a post here and everything seemed to be on sale. This sounds reasonable. Zoya is the same way, but I love their polish so it is worth the wait. OP, you have a choice to shop or not shop with them, but it seems that the website does indicate slower processing is possible. I hope you like the clothes. I have been very tempted to order but I tend to order from places with a brick and mortar for returns.

I would be annoyed too. Five+ days on top of the 4-9 transit days is really out of the norm and I think should be more clearly communicated on their website. Tacking bad customer service on top of that just compounds the annoyance.

I do think it is unreasonable to tell me I need to pay extra for faster shipping for them to PACKAGE it faster. Not unreasonable at all. I'd be pretty irritated to find out I'm expected to pay for faster shipping to get my order packaged faster. Sorry, that's ridiculous and should be disclosed to the customer before they click the "place order" button. The shipping speed selected should have no bearing on the packaging time at the warehouse. I have seen some sites that have a fee for "expedited processing" in addition to whatever shipping method you select. That's fine as it's disclosed that if you don't want to pay extra you'll be waiting a while. I'm pretty much over Modcloth anyway. Their clothes are expensive, the shipping is slow, and the sizing is very inconsistent. Their size charts are generic so even going by the chart you have no idea what you're going to get. It's been too frustrating to spend $40 on a shirt + shipping and almost two weeks to get it to either have to return it because it doesn't fit or the quality is terrible.

I expect to need to return/exchange some clothes based on fit and sizing but thinking this process is far too drawn out to make that reasonable. I mean.. it will be 2.5+ weeks by the time I get my order.. plus whatever time it takes to get back to them. No wonder they have a 60 day return policy! If they used a more standard 30 day window people wouldn't even have their clothes in time to try them on and return.

I honestly think we have just grown accustomed to fast processing times. Amazon, Macy's, and DSW are incredibly fast. Then I will order from Zoya or Blitsy and it takes a month to arrive. I don't think the smaller companies can compete with the huge ones when it comes to processing times.
I agree that customer service should have handled your exchange a bit better. They definitely need to work on their wording. However, it really isn't surprising that paid shipping gets priority service. I would think that is quite common.

Did you order during a big sale when they were inundated with orders and may be finding it difficult to keep up with processing?

I've ordered from them recently and paid for faster shipping because I wanted one of the items for a specific event. The items arrived on the first day of the expected window and that's including getting through customs. I was pleased. I suspect they do pull items first for those that pay for faster shipping as it is obvious that those customers want their items quickly. (In my view, those customers would be justifiably irate if things didn't get out super quick because they had paid a premium for that service). Sorry that you haven't been happy with them,

I have an order with them waiting to be packaged/shipped also. I had heard they are re-doing their shipping area so sure hope it makes a big improvement. I wouldn't return the things ordered just because they are slow arriving. They make really cool clothing.

I just ordered from them last week. One dress, qualified for the free shipping. It did take some time to process/get the shipping notice email but once that happened, the dress arrived very quickly! I ordered on a Thursday morning and it arrived in the mail the following Thursday. I think it shipped out on Monday? So 4 days, not counting Sunday for processing.
I only do free/cheap shipping for things I don't need by a certain date. Yes, Amazon and some places are super quick always but a week or two is pretty common for many places.

Nor does it say if you pay for faster transit time, they'll package it faster: Notice how for $14/$21, you get delivery in a specified time. The other options refer only to transit time. That's a giveaway that transit time is not the same as delivery time. It's sneaky, but that's why they've used different words.

I just want to know how you got free shipping from mod cloth to Canada.
And free shipping orders falling to the bottom of the list is just how things work. I never expect to take priority over the actual priority packages.

I just had the exact same problem. Placed my order 7/16. It just shipped yesterday. When I contacted customer service they told me there was a warehouse shutdown for system upgrades. I found it discouraging that they did not disclose this shutdown when I ordered it even an email explaining the delay.

Prime has beyond spoiled me.
I waited almost a week to get my package from the gap this week! Seriously annoyed me, but not enough to pay extra for shipping.
That said American girl only took 4 days this week; but I paid blood for standard shipping

I just got the email saying my order shipped. Turns out I ordered on Wednesday. Yours should be going out any moment What did you get? I got a bunch of shoes and a clearance tee shirt for dd, a kraken ring and some comic book earrings that say things like boom or pow (can't remember exactly).
