Great visual.......of such a sad disgusting situation. I hope these woman gain peace. They certainly have gained my respect!!!! I don't want to sound harsh, but how have they gained your respect? They were silent for many years and this allowed the abuse to continue. So many victims! It's hard to believe that many women kept quiet for that long. In a somewhat similar situation, I certainly did not keep quiet. And the skeptic in me says that some of these women, a few of them anyway, jumped on the bus, so to speak Well, bully for you. For many women, speaking up is professional or personal suicide, so to speak. I can't tell you the number of stories of male senior partners or judges touching female staff and female associates and/or female clerks inappropriately or making inappropriate remarks. When one of my acquaintances was a law intern for a fancy law firm, a senior partner reached over and squeezed her butt during an elevator ride. She complained to the HR department and guess what? She wasn't offered a job after busting her ass working. I work with female and male judges and you wouldn't believe the kind of shit that goes down. Speaking up is often professional suicide.

Rape is not about sex. It's about power and manipulation.
As previous posters have pointed out, they did indeed report their rapes. Men in power, especially back during those times (60s/70s/even the 80s) were able to shut down proper investigations of charges of rape. I'm kind of offended at your "respect" comment, as my own mother was newly divorced with two children under 5 who had to work during the day, go to school at night, and oh yeah, get chased around the office by her asshole boss who tried to get into her pants during the 60s. My mom has MY respect for dealing with it as best as she could (single; no other income; two babies; handled the boss as well as she could, knowing no one would do anything if she reported it), and still managing to be a relatively normal person through the ordeal. Times are very different today as compared to back then. NO ONE reported crap like that because NOTHING ever got done about it.
It takes far more courage to report a rape than NOT to. As soon as a rape has been reported a woman runs the risk of being slut shamed by everyone from the detective to the police officers, to the courtroom, to the juries and finally, even the Judge.
Crazy, right, Sharla? I'm thankful every single day my daughter already knows the basic rules of not leaving a drink unattended, having a friend with her at any party, and never going to the bathroom alone. Roofies are scary; you can't taste anything when you've been hit with one.

BUT I don't know. I have never been in this situation. Rape scares me on so many levels, and add in the fact that is is an American Icon they were/are accusing had to make it harder. I understand that coming forward could have saved others, but maybe they were still trying to figure out how to save themselves. Everyone heals at their own pace. To face someone who violated you......and make them know that you are willing to stand up for yourself......takes a lot of bravery. I don't judge on the time lines it took them. I just give respect and admiration.

I love the cover. I was a victim of date rape when I was 20 years old. I feel so horrible for all those women on that cover (and I am sure there are so many more!) but it makes me happy to see them coming forward now, united. It will hopefully bring the dialogue about rape and date rape to the public discussion again. It's important to be talked about.

That is shocking and very powerful. And yet, he continues to deny any wrongdoing. Do you think in his twisted mind he actually believes that all these sexual encounters were consensual?

Yes, and that is not all the women who came forward, and there are doubtlessly more who didn't come forward. So, so disgusting. ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/JvSt42CUoZ9LG952aAaF.jpg) UN-believable! I don't know if Bill Cosby can be prosecuted for these crimes but even if he isn't, his career is ruined, as it should be if everything being said is true. And I think of how much I had admired him. ![:-[](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/embarrassed.png) And he hasn't just ruined his career - there are many that have acted or written etc in shows with him that were in syndication that now are not being paid for their work because those runs have been cancelled. Not on the scale of the original crime but still they are victims of his behavior as well.

Slut shaming and victim blaming are still alive and well. As recently as 2012 you might risk someone burning down the house of a victim who comes forward against a 'popular' offender. Quote from story:That same year, when a 14-year-old Missouri cheerleader accused a popular older boy at her school of sexual assault, her classmates shamed her on social media and the family’s house was burned down. The whole world watched online. Powerful men with money 'get away' with stuff like this all the time. They hire high priced lawyers and beat you down, black list you, destroy your reputation. Many of them did report the rape, no one cared to believe them.

I haven't read the article, but I think it was on CNN there was a case from 2008 where they could still possibly prosecute him.

The California courts have ruled that there is a case that is now being led by Gloria Allred that can go forward so that might be it.

I guess I missed it when I came out. I will look for it. How could one person hurt so many people over so many years? I find it difficult to wrap my brain around those numbers. How could so much of America have been so wrong about a person.?

Spun his stories in the media. Threw the blame back on the victims, "they wanted it" . It makes me ill. I can not even look at any of his work with out getting ill.

I help at a one off self defense class for graduating High School seniors. We pretty much inform them there is no such thing as date rape. It is a term coined by a lawyer as a defense to prove the victim was willing because they went out with them to begin with. You were 20 and raped by someone you knew. That is horrible no matter what the circumstances. I'm so sorry it has happened to you. Unfortunately, you have a lot of company.

I'm constantly amazed at how ONE single twisted person can have such a horrible impact on so many lives. His true nature is forever exposed but there's little comfort in that. I hope these women can find some retribution in finally being heard and believed.
