DBF and I are taking his step daughter and her dbf to Vegas in a couple weeks. We like to gamble and can afford to but his daughter and her dbf are only 23 and on a limited budget. We don't plan on doing everything together but we are looking for some things to do. We are going to pay for a couple shows for us all and we're taking a day trip to the Hoover Dam and drive the 13-mile Red Rock canyon. They want to spend time at the pool which is probably when dbf and I will hit the casinos. Oh and we are going to visit Fremont Street. Any other ideas of things to do there as a group?

There is a pinball museum where you can play all kinds of vintage pinball machines. Madame Tussaud's was an unexpected hoot. There is a zipline on Fremont Street if you're up for that.

We liked the double decker bus, the Hop on Hop off. You learn things about Vegas and it gets you places, like Fremont.

Limited budget sucks in vegas when you go with people who have enough money to do what they want. We ran into that when a group if us went and some of us had more money and likes to gamble and some didn't have enough money to gamble a lot.
Get the coupons, look on Groupon and prioritize. Are there things that interest both groups? I, personally, would rather spend my money on things other than shows so if I were on a limited budget, I'd skip the shows.
People watching is free and is my favorite thing to do. I liked the wax museum, though the secret garden was a waste of money, the kids loved score, but it isn't there anymore.

We took our kids 21 and 23 for Christmas. Had a blast. Did shows almost every night and did museums/tours during the day. The Mob Museum and Neon Boneyard tour were amazing. DD suggested the Bodies Exhibit at the Luxor. I didn't really want to go, but it turned out to be one of the best things we did. DH...who was an occasional smoker (mostly cigars around a campfire or when on the boat...occasional cigs) decided on the spot to never smoke again. That was seven months ago. So far so good...so I'd say it was worth the admission!! Highly recommend seeing Carrot Top and Absinthe!

There is a dinner show there, I can't remember the name of it. It had knights on horses, etc. At a castle type casino/hotel. It was awesome. Anybody remember the name of it?
We also did the boat ride to Hoover Dam. It was great. You could sit outside on the top for a great view, or if the wind was a bit much you could go inside where they had a restaurant and great food.

My sister works at the school where Marie Osmond's son Michael attended. It was very difficult for them (at the school) after his death.

You're going in August so you may want to rethink the outdoor activities you have planned. It will be 100+ degrees. Hoover Dam is an oven in August and I can't imagine enjoying Red Rock this time of year either.
The pool sounds like your best bet.

Hoover Dam is an oven in August and I can't imagine enjoying Red Rock this time of year either. The pool sounds like your best bet. Kinda depends on the person. I hate the hot, but I come from a hot and humid climate. I found Vegas to be quite pleasant, even in August, because there's like 4% humidity vs. 74% humidity. That said, it of course isn't for everyone, and it is extremely important to stay drink lots and lots of water, even if you do not feel hot or thirsty, because heatstroke SUCKS. (Happened to me once; glad I did not need the hospital.) Oh, and I guess if another hurricane comes up Baja California, it could be rainy, and then it will be humid! (Not to mention the flash floods.) So, activities. There's the aquarium at Mandalay Bay, or the Dolphin Habitat/Secret Garden at Mirage. Mirage also has its volcano at night. There's the Eiffel Tower at Paris (it's lovely at night, especially if you are up there while the fountains are going off at Bellagio across the street. The Titanic exhibit is at Luxor. (Check out MGM Grand or one of the other MGM hotels-- they have a promo of 3 things for $57 per person.) New York New York has the arcade/roller coaster. Hershey World just opened there, too. You could take a gondola ride at the Venetian (before/after Madame Tussauds). For free, Bellagio has some botanical gardens and I think an art exhibit right now. I was also pleasantly surprised by the wildlife habitat at the Flamingo. I don't know if it's necessarily worth a special trip-- it isn't huge-- but if you're walking past anyhow, it is nice to stop in there and cool down a bit. I am not sure how much gambling the girls will want to do, or if they like poker, but a lot of the casinos have Texas-Hold-Em tournaments during the day for about $50 buy in.

I recently went to Vegas and am not much of a gambler. I had some fun on the penny slots, but other than that I spent my time at the pool and people watching on the strip.

Ride the rollercoaster at New York, New York. Watch the fountains at the Bellagio. Watch the volcano at the Mirage. Not sure if the lions are still at MGM, but if they are, you can go and see them. The white tiger/Secret Gardens at Mirage are cool Ride the gondolas at the Venetian
The first time I went to Vegas, we met a woman who had a list she found online that listed all of the free things to do in Vegas. She and her daughter were trying to do as many as possible. That would be fun. We just got back from a wedding in Vegas today. Our 22 year old did gamble but he also spent time near the pool and socializing with friends. Your kids will find enough to do.

Las Vegas is probably my least favorite place to go, but I've been there many, many times for work related trips, once with my mom when I turned 21 and once with DH and MIL. I'm not much of a gambler. Excalibur was fun, I've seen Wicked and Phantom there years ago (both awesome), Hoover Dam was neat. We also went to an old car museum that was pretty cool if you're into that kind of thing and it wasn't very expensive. Most of the big hotels have free shows outside at night but you have to be willing to hang out in a huge crowd of people.

The Mob Museum is super awesome and it is basically across the street from Fremont Street!
Also, check the unbelievable chocolate fountain at the Bellagio(behind the Atrium).
Take a ride to the top of the Paris Eiffel Tower. It is fairly cheap, and you an find two-for-one tickets on the net.
You want to be careful about outside activities this time of year due to the high heat. The Red Rock Canyon tour and visit to Howard Hughes' ranch is a great excursion, but the heat would not be pleasant--most likely 115-120 this time of year.
There are so many great things to do in Vegas that don't involve smoky casinos/gambling.

Love Red Rock and went in early may a few years ago and do agree that it will probably be too hot to go in August. Valley of Fire is on my list if I ever make it back out that way!

When ever we go to Vegas it isn't to gamble. We don't stay at hotels. We have family there so we stay with them. The last time we went was the first time we stayed in a hotel, It was for husbands moms funeral and other family was staying at her house and we had our dogs with us. We stayed in a hotel in Henderson. We used to go down there to spend time with husbands mom. She was a blast. We would go see all the new casinos. She loved that. I went to visit her for a week about a year before she passed. We had so much fun. We went to the Aria hotel and casino shortly after it was built. They had a gallery that was showing a blown glass art show. It was beautiful. I have pictures some where.
One time we went there we parked the car at one casino at one end of the strip and walked down through all the hotels we wanted to walk through. It was so much fun. I have some great pictures of us on our journey that day. We also went one time and took daughter with us. she was in the 1st grade. WE took her to see the dolphins at the Mirage. Daughter actually got to sit by one of the dolphins and pet him. She loved that. I got great pictures that day.
We went to the Excalibur for the Tournament of Kings dinner show. That was a big hit with the daughter and husbands nephew. We liked it also. Husband could have done without the Cornish game hen.
