I've heard about chews, etc. Some come with D-- is that recommended?

(Honestly, I hate them all). My doctor put me on some a while ago and someone was "saving money" and bought the 500 size at Costco? I took them for a week and then NO MORE! I can't handle the stomachache!

I prefer calcium fortified plantbased milk, like almond milk. I don't drink regular milk.

I take Caltrate D (either the brand or generic, depending on what's on sale when I run out) at my doctor's recommendation. I take one in the morning and one in the evening. I haven't had any stomach issues or other negative effects.

I take the Kirkland (Costco) brand with D ~ one after lunch, one after dinner. Have never had a problem with my stomach.
ETA: I tried the chews from Costco but I found them getting stuck in my teeth and I think they are coated with sugar.

I haven't been able to stomach my multi in the morning. At a nurse's suggestion, I've been taking them after supper with no stomach issues.
It sounds like most calcium supplements require 2 per day?

I don't take calcium, but to answer your original question, vitamin D helps with calcium absorption.

Also, your body can only absorb 500 mg of calcium at a time, so make sure to take a lower dose pill morning and night. Eta: I'm a bone density tech in case anyone should think I have an unnatural obsession with bone health. Lol

Not all calcium is the same. Calcium Citrate (Citracal) is going to be best absorbed by your body as it's most highly bio-available.

I have read that over 1,000 mg per day (including what you take in as food AND supplements) has been implicated in cardiovascular disease. I recommend Solgar Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D3 .
