Ok ladies, next weekend I'm going to a two day crop with my SIL at a hotel. 8am Friday morning till 10pm Saturday night, all meals included in the fee. It's gonna be awesome. I've been in the craft room last night and all morning putting together card kits and a few 12 X 12 kits. Now here's the question. I love my eyelets. Yes I do. I still have the cave man hammer and setter. I bought a Crop-O-Dile a few years ago and that thing is of the devil! I traded it to a fellow cropper for some Bazzil! My question is - would you prefer I do my eyelets in the kit production process? Or can I take the aforementioned hammer to the crop and risk getting the stink eye and being "discussed" by my fellow croppers? I do my very best to be a crop good citizen. I may laugh a little too loud sometimes, because my SIL is hilarious, but other than that I have my ear buds, I don't sing to my music, I don't borrow from my neighbors. So if my hammering would wad your panties, please speak up!

Meh. I'd rather listen to you hammer eyelets for five minutes than hear you talk.non.stop the whole weekend. (And by that I mean, talk so loud you talk over the WHOLE ROOM of people-- I know there's going to be talking around me all weekend.)
But I have two suggestions: 1. If you're sharing a table with someone, give her a heads up before you start pounding on the table, and 2. Where I have cropped, there is always space (and tables) outside the crop room that you could do the hammering. So if you're worried about being too loud in the crop room, just step into the hall to do it.

Maybe not wad my panties but it would bother me. I have asked croppers to step outside when I ran crops because their hammering was bothering so many people.

Yep, you can hammer, but not on MY table! I might be journaling or trying to line something up evenly.
Sounds like a great time - have fun!

You wouldn't bother me. If you're my table mate, just let me know before you start hammering.

I don't mind a person hammering a few (not tons) of eyelets at a separate tool table. Not cool to do it at a shared table or tables next to each other because they shift the other tables. Most stuff doesn't bother me, but if you're concerned... Why not borrow a cropodile to avoid the issues? Or add the eyelets last at home?

I would rather the hammering occur in a grouping versus a random whack of a hammer. I think it is courteous to warn the others around you before hammering OR inquire of the crop organizer if there is a place to hammer.
I don't find hammering any more annoying than the constant screechy sound of various electronic cutting machines.

I love eyelets too, and don't use them often enough. I would not mind your hammering, because I know you are actually working on a project, I can't stand it when people go to crops just to visit, and never really accomplish anything. For me each time you hammered a bell would go off in my head "ding, she's got another project done".
But then again I am quite unusual.
Have a wonderful time, we would be great table mates!

I wouldn't mind the hammering, but definitely give your tablemates a heads up so that they don't mess up their journaling or something.
That would upset me.

I go to crops about 2 out of every three months for a day or two. They are large. When someone whips out that hammer I often hear someone complain about it. It doesn't bother me though. Little kids at a crop are way more irritating to me. I would bring my supplies and then see how I could do it to make the least amount of noise.

My friend was using a punch and the lady across from her asked if she was going to do that all day. Oy!

We had a woman at our annual weekend crop that NEVER scrapped. I wouldn't care if she knitted, read, played on the computer, or something, but I swear she spent the whole weekend on her phone with her kids and hubby. Or, talking about way too personal things. Then she'd interrupt to ask what was happening in the movie we'd watch in the evening. We didn't feel like we could call her out because she was with the organizer's stepsister, and we adore our organizer Hammering a few eyelets wouldn't bother me at all.

LOL, I have two words for you: Silent Setter! I got mine years ago and seriously, that thing is AWESOME! You can set eyelets all day and no one would ever be the wiser. It was from Provo Craft, if that helps. Here you go, your crop mates will thank you! Provo Craft Silent Setter

As long as I was warned, I wouldn't mind. I agree that all in 1 swoop would be best and not every 10 minutes. But they might have another area that could be used as well. Have a great time! Hope you get lots accomplished.

I got beat up on the old 2 peas because I said I hated the constant sound of cutting machines. Nice to know there may be a kindred spirit out there! As for eyelets, I used to do mine on the floor, and I'd be pretty quick about it. If you were at my table I'd probably let one or 2 eyelets go and that would be my limit. Because everyone at the crop is not in your group of friends, take it elsewhere if it is more than one. Or do it in your room at some point. I've run up to my room at crops and I probably would do this type of thing in my room later in the evening maybe.

It's part of scrapbooking. Cutting machines are more annoying. Give a warning and if there is a free table to do it at then do it there. Someone wil be unhappy about it. But it will likely be the person who has music planning, who's talking non stop loudly and has a cricur and sil going.

The hammering doesn't bother me, as long as it's not on my table shaking me hammer away, make your eyelets part of your process! I'm still an eyelet girl a lot too. I can set them pretty quickly the old fashioned way, much faster than using the new tools. Plus I can get them anywhere on my page so much easier

Thanks for all of your comments, ladies! The only thing that really bothers me at a crop are little kids running around or loud cell phone talkers. The former shouldn't be there and the latter should go outside. Just my two cents! I'm back in my craft room this morning, having been allowed to sleep late my my little dog Snickers. I'm glad my church live streams their service! (Elevation.org) I can listen while I scrap. My card kits are coming together and I'm gonna do my eyelets before I go to the crop. I will be using 4 of them on TWELVE cards - that's a bunch of hammering. And I'm gonna check out that silent setter! Y'all have a wonderful Sunday!

I'm getting older and crankier I would not want to listen to it especially if like it sounds you plan to put multiple on several layouts. If it were one or two eyelets over the weekend no problem but most places have plastic tables which isn't something you should be hamering on anyway. Personally I wouldn't set eyelets at a crop. It looks like I am in the minority from the few posts I read.

All this thread has convinced me of is that I don't think I would do well in a crop setting at all! I've never been to a crop but have been intrigued by the idea of scrapbooking with people who GET what I'm doing. But, I have a slight case of misophonia (getting seriously annoyed by sounds) so the idea of electronic cutters whirring in the background, people's phones going off, people talking nonstop, the occasional hammering and all while I"m trying to concentrate on making a scrapbook page? I might lose my mind. I know I could probably listen to headphones (that's what I used to do when I worked in a cubicle) but then that would defeat the purpose of going to a crop with a group of people! LOL. Glad you figured out what you're going to do with the eyelets. Hilarious that you still love using them. My eyelet set (along with the caveman hammer) was one of the first "I HAVE TO HAVE IT" purchases years and years ago that my husband still uses against me whenever I show him something else that I HAVE TO HAVE!!! Have fun at your crop!

Ugh! I can't even imagine. One of the ones I attend the age is 10 or 12 to join mommy. Once in a rare while does a young cropper show up. The vendors do have their kids and grandkids show up. Well behaved kids (who aren't privy to our conversations or supplies) are fine for awhile. Once in awhile someone will bring in a puppy. I'll stop cropping for that visitor.

I know several people in real life that pretty much always bring headphones or earbuds to crops. When you don't want to talk (or listen, sometimes people's conversations run a bit on the TMI side at these things!) you plug in. When you feel like socializing more, you take them off. It's all good and people are generally pretty respectful. The fun thing is when you need to get up and stretch or take a little break, it's fun to walk around a little and peek at what other people are working on!

I have this also and have been told electronic cutting machines are part of scrapping now so I have to suck it up. I bought some good ear buds but I can still hear through them. I try very hard to sit against the wall away from the machines to minimize the noise from all sides. But I love going to crops in spite of it. It's the only place I can do nothing but scrap. Another noise that bothers me is people watching you tube videos on their phones and computers at crops.
