I will also admit I am curious to know if I know anyone, but I know what happened to the cat! Ha. I know my husband isn't on it. He can barely check his email!

I read that Michigan State University has the largest amount of edu.coms on the list. My town alone has 983 users! Our population is only about 10,000 so that surprises me! Is my math wrong or is 10% of my small town on there? I'm shocked, but I guess I shouldn't be.

I only need to be concerned with my own marriage, and I trust my husband. I don't want to know if any friends or relatives are on that list. I understand that there is a curiosity though.

I am so curious to look at the list but I also don't want to know! I guess there is just 1 person I want to confirm is on there because he is an abusive douchebag.
20% of my city is registered on it. If you subtract children, 1/3 of all adults in my city is on it!

I confess to being curious - not about my husband, but if I'd recognize any names. But I have a brand new shiny laptop - I'm not clicking anything - I have no doubt a significant portion of the supposed lists, links etc are just viruses.

It just gives a percentage. In the visible layers box slide male users % off and slide user distribution on. Then zoom in to your town by clicking on the map. When the hand appears over your city click on it. It will show you the number.

StacyAngel - Go back to the map and look at the two white boxes at the top right hand side. The first one says visible layers. Click on it and there'll be a drop down menu. then follow Happymomma's directions. HTH

The place I used, you could enter your zip code. I got around 1,000 hits. The men to women ratio was about 8 men to 1 woman. I found 5 people, 3 for sures and 2 maybes. I wish I hadn't looked.

What if your town isn't on there? No users? The small neighboring town to us had 23 users. But our town didn't have a dot like the other towns around us.

What I can't believe is how many people used emails with their ACTUAL names in the address. How stupid can you be? Some of the addresses seem to be their usual every day email, I mean emails that their spouses probably know and could probably get access to. Dumb.

I think that map is a crock, personally. There are comments that say there were problems when more than one place had the same named city... and I just looked at the area where I grew up, which is all really small towns. There is a dot on the map marking a totally unincorporated area where very FEW PEOPLE live, altogether, and their map says there were 67 users there, which is BS. Most of the people who live in that area are older generation rural farmers, hardly the Ashley Madison type; I call shenanigans.

It's not my business, but that doesn't stop me from being curious. I'm a small town girl, it's just the online equivalent of standing in the bathroom with binoculars Lord knows town binoculars caught me in some shenanigans in my teenage years, i'm glad i've settled down! Oh, I think I have a friend like you. She's the best! Her teenage shenanigans (and worse always leave me with my jaw dropping). I was such a good girl.

I heard on talk radio this morning that only 3 area codes in the US did not have a name listed. I also heard Snookie (whoever she is) was being snarky about Josh's wife standing by him only for it to come out recently that HER husband's email address was on there. Karma. Yeah, but that is different.

Yep, I went through the Alabama list today. Most of the people are from Birmingham and Montgomery but 6 are from my town. Nobody I know which isn't surprising. One of the stats given is the amount of money they, um, 'contributed' to Ashley Madison.

Somehow a map of our little town showed up on Facebook today. With the users location marked with name & address. I know some of these people, our town had IMO a ton. we are semi-rural out here not a big town.
Eta: the site with the map posted here isn't what I have seen going around on Facebook. But it was specific to one location.

I am thinking the map may a little wonky also. My town is not on the map, but a town kind of close has 97 users in a town of 555. That seems like a very high percentage of users for a small rural town that is actually on the way down. No one is moving there, so a lot of older residents, not as many families anymore.

No. I can't even imagine how humiliated their spouses must be to have them listed out by state like that.

Most of the people who live in that area are older generation rural farmers, hardly the Ashley Madison type; I call shenanigans. Yep. From what I understand (correct me where I am wrong please) there are a whole lot of problems. I was on another message board where people were trying to run different numbers and see what they could figure out. A few problems: There is a paid users list and a non-paid list. You wouldn't have to be "using" the site for non paid. You could be looking for your spouse who you believe is cheating. You could be a PI or a reporter. You could be someone out for revenge. There was no confirmation involved for non paid. So someone could use my email, check out the site and then my email is on the list. Lots of phony addresses were used with non-paid. Some people used gift cards instead of credit cards and used phony addresses/zip codes. Some people were on there several times with 2-3 email addresses. Already I have heard of a number of conclusions in various places based on not enough info. It all stinks and it is a rotten site and I hate that people have used it! I sorrow for their families. I think there will be more than a few surprises of who is using it, but it would be wise to hold judgement because of all the problems in identifying people. I really don't want to know if my neighbor is on it, but even more I don't want to think he was on it if he is innocent and someone used his email fraudulently.

Nope. Not my business, and besides that, I don't trust the search sources. I also don't know anyone's email address as I only really use FB to contact people. My gmail is for shopping. My DH wouldn't be nearly stupid enough to use his known email addy (neither would I) and in any case we'd both be too cheap to pay for something you can get for free, lol
