Two weeks ago we had hardwoods put down in the bedrooms of our house, and painted all of the rooms as well. So it forced us to pull everything out of the rooms and majorly de-clutter! This included the scrapbook room. Which was a mess! You could barely see the floor! It's also kind of the off season room, and catch all room. So right now even though the floors are done and the paint is dry, the entire scrapbook room is in the garage. I'm off work next week and I'm am going through everything and deep cleaning de-stashing before putting it all back tidy and organized. Also I ordered the Alex Desk from Ikea and some shelves so waiting on those to get here also.
Anyone else do a deep clean/clean out of your scrap room recently?

I truly do think about it, often. But then I get scared! :-)

It was pretty scary! More so about how much money I've spent on this hobby over the years, and how much I am about to get rid of.

Still working on it. Had cabinets and shelving installed last winter which was finally done by mid-February. I've been unpacking, decluttering, organizing and purging since then. It's coming along but I had a lot of stuff to unpack. Now that DD is in school full time, things will happen a lot faster!

I did earlier this year. Huge purge. Had my friends go through it and take what they wanted. Sold some stuff at a yard sale. And gave {gasp!} the rest to the last person at the yard sale who hauled off whatever we had left!
It was so freeing. I feel so much better with all the clutter and stuff gone. The only thing that I can't part with is QuickKutz and Cricut cartridges. Oh, and about a six inch stack of 12x12 patterned paper that I use as tester cuts.
Since then I'm very particular about what I buy. It's so much nicer to go in there and play.
There have been several threads recently on this subject, so I think it's the IN thing right now.

One of our local scrap stores is having a garage sale in November, so I'm going to put the decent stuff in that. The last time I did a purge and put it in a scrap store garage sale my take home was over $400. And that wasn 't nearly as in depth as this one is.

I just cleaned out about 1/4 of my room and have a whole table worth of stuff and four bags of stuff to sell. It is overwhelming. Unsure of best way to sell, but I am thinking of yard sale or offer up. I still have a long way to go.

I've just moved and am in the process of unpacking and setting up my new scraproom. It is daunting and so overwhelming! I started scrapping 15 years ago and have never really purged. It is really embarrassing to see how much I've accumulated.
I just read Marie Kondo's book (The life changing magic of Tidying Up) and am using her as my inspiration to purge anything that doesn't make me happy or isn't functional. I still have eyelets in every Stampin' Up! colour, grommets, the Fastenator (that's the huge stapler thing), etc. - really old stuff that I never used. I've always been so afraid to get rid of stuff "just in case" - it may come back in style, I may be inspired to use it, I spent so much money on it!
But I am really trying hard to think it through - will I really use it? More importantly, do I love it? Does it make me happy? Those eyelets don't make me happy, they make me sad that I wasted money on them. So, they're being purged.
The big problem is what to do with the stuff I purge. I have about 5 boxes ready to go (big boxes). I may list them on Kijiji but scrapbooking just doesn't seem to sell in my town. If I donate them - well, I don't think Value Village will know what a Fastenator or a grommet set is and how to package/sell it, so that seems like a waste.
The purge will continue this weekend. I can't wait to create in an emptier space when it's done.

The last time I did a purge and put it in a scrap store garage sale my take home was over $400. And that wasn 't nearly as in depth as this one is. That's awesome. I had a bunch of stuff in a LSS garage sale before we moved a few years ago. I unloaded a bunch of stuff and ended up with over $600 in store credit to use on new stuff. My friends do two a year, but I'll miss the fall one in a couple weeks. It's out of state and my other two friends that usually go with me to sell stuff can't make it this time. It's a huge bummer too because I have about eight of those file storage boxes FULL of stuff I want to sell that I would REALLY like out of my house sooner than later. Oh well, this just gives me more time to get it packaged up and priced for the next one. Or maybe I should organize my own here...

marg and customscrap don't forget about the For Sale or Trade board here too. I might try listing some of my better stuff on there since I can't go sell at my friend's sale. Customscrap, you need to up your post count to 50 before you can list stuff though, but that's easy enough to do.

I'm getting ready to put up some new shelves so I can get stuff off my desk. I'm working my way through the house with the 'Konmari' decluttering method so will be getting to the craftroom soon.

Yes I did and I feel so much happier in my room!
I de-stashed a lot of older unused stuff and donated it to the school program and took some to value village as well. I swapped out old or not suitable storage units for 2 alex 6 drawer units and one of the tall units, got 3 raskog carts and 2 Kallax units and I love my room now.
It was a lot of work and I think it is always an ongoing process. Recently I organized my embossing folders by taking them all out of their packaging and labeling them all, put my die cuts and other type ephemera in those 4x6 iris containers and I just got some clear bags and inserts from simon says so I can put my thin dies in them with a magnet strip and get rid of all the packing from the dies.

I'm trying not to spend too much money, but I am sick of having unmatching pieces of furniture that I just grabbed from wherever and put them in my room. I love those Alex drawer units, they're so sleek and modern looking. I do have a lot of Crop In Style cubes with drawers - I just find I'm not utilizing my drawer space effectively at all.
I plan on putting my Embossing Folders in a Linus bin, and also doing the clear bags and inserts for my dies as well. What size clear bags did you buy, and are they a good fit?
We built our new house to be sleek and modern and minimalist - and my scrap room is the antithesis of that. I think having matching furniture, and having everything put away in drawers, etc. will really help me to be more creative and to scrap more - looking at the piles of stuff on old bookshelves, ugly old DVD racks, etc., just isn't inspiring at all and makes me not want to be in my room.

I get what you mean about not wanting to spend a lot of money on storage but in the long run if you are like me had I done it proper in the first place I would have spent less money lol. I kept buying mismatched crap and stuff that didn't really work but it was cheap and handier to buy then driving 2 plus hours to an IKEA.
The bags are great and really good quality. I got the 8.5 long x 5.5 inch wide ones. They will fit the majority of my dies and the inserts are a thicker cardstock. I am having a hard time finding magnetic sheets here locally but I am hoping to find some in the city later this week.
I think once you are done your room you will feel inspired and I can relate to your room being the antithesis of the house because that is what my room was like before I redid it.
Good luck on your revamp of your room!

This is why I didn't even unpack my stuff until I could do it right the first time. The other thing is that I really, REALLY hate having to do something more than once! So as much as it killed me having my stuff in boxes for over three years after we moved, it would have driven me bonkers to spend money twice to fix the same problem.

Thanks!
I found inexpensivish magnet sheets on Amazon.ca and at Staples. They're 81/2 x 11 so I'll cut them up. I think Ellen Hutson sells some too specifically for die cut storage.
It's so true, if I invested in the proper furniture in the first place I'd be a lot farther ahead!
Hearing about other people's organization is really inspiring.

Hearing about other people's organization is really inspiring. I agree. I scrap in a spare bedroom and can't really turn it into a dedicated craft room so I need to be far, far, more organised than I am. This time round I'm going to start sorting embellishments by colour. At the moment everything is sorted to some extent by type and I find it doesn't work for me so I'm going to put everything of a similar colour together. My cardstock has been in colour ranges for ever and my patterned paper is normally sorted by what I'm planning on doing with it but my embellishments are a mess.

Yes! After taking a long hiatus from crafting (paper or otherwise), I'm starting to get back into it again. I spent all day yesterday re-doing my embellishment and ribbon storage. Previously I used to keep everything in the original packaging so I could reference easily when submitting for publications. Since the magazines I used to submit to are gone and I don't care about that anymore, I took everything out of its packaging and sorted by color and I LOVE it! I used an Iris Photo Box (16 cases) for the embellishments (not an affiliate link). I saw someone mention this in another thread on here and thought it was a great idea so I used it! I want to get another one to organize my cardstock scraps. Right now they're all in a large flat container from Ikea and I hate it. I put my ribbon into the detachable bags that come in the WRMK 360 Crafter's Bag (not an affiliate link). I originally wanted to sort them into mason jars by color, but I also wanted to keep them portable so glass jars wasn't practical. I like that the detachable bags are clear so I can easily see inside without any digging around. I also like that they are "smooshy" and not made of a hard material, so I can scrunch them into tight spaces if need be. I'm having a couple friends over this weekend for a one-day "crop" so I'm trying to sort through everything before then so I know what I have to work with and also give them first dibs on my purged items. Purging is very freeing and incredibly inspiring! I'm having fun reacquainting myself with everything I have and getting ideas for things to make and do.

I claimed a spare room for a studio of my very own about a year and a half ago. Since my scrapping and art supplies were in various places all over the house, it was nice to finally bring it all together in one spot. I didn't do much purging. My stash was pretty limited. Since then I've manage to acquire a nice amount of new paper and embellishments. I'm enjoying my space, and I have just the right items that I need to be creative. It feels so good to have it all organized. You're going to love it when it's all set up!

Ryann your Iris box link just comes back to this page. I don't go to crops but I have one of these bags that I keep all the immediate essentials to hand in so I can move easily to another room if I want. I also have 3 of these in different colours. I have two of them stored in my Everything Mary bag. One contains my knives, scissors, sharp things and the other contains various glues, tapes etc.. I'm not sure what I'm going to put in the third one yet but I find them very useful as they are little, self contained bags. Maybe one day I'll actually use one for my purse!

I just moved (again) and claimed the spare bedroom as an art studio and playroom -- still unloading and organizing everything now. I've Craigslisted and DIYed most of the furniture and deco, so I don't feel too bad about it, but I did shell out $100 for a giant Ikea kitchen countertop for the table -- SO worth it for the huge workspace. I've always had a tiny corner of a room (a desk in a corner in a bedroom, a desk in a corner of an office), so this will be all new for me. My main complaint is I can't craft much while I'm working on the room itself. So behind in thank-you cards!

I did mine last fall but am constantly reorganizing, purging, etc... Don't think it's ever over for me. I started my process by getting rid of all the old office furniture in a spare bedroom. Painted the walls a really nice seaglass blue. Went to The Container Store and bought an Elfa desk wall unit that I absolutely love. The weekend before Christmas I had a scrapbook garage sale and got rid of just about EVERYTHING except for my Stampin' Up! products I use as my business. It was the best feeling getting rid of supplies I hadn't used in years. Then on Christmas Eve (Elfa annual sale started) I drove back down to Orlando to The Container Store to get shelving and drawers to redo my closet. I'd love to do my other wall in another Elfa wall desk unit...maybe one day in the near future.

When I go to Florida, I love going to that store - I can only take home (to Canada) what will fit in my trunk (we drive down), but there are always so many things I want to get that I can't take home. I saw that they had a 20% off sale on everything last weekend and it really sucked that I had to miss out on that. They ship to Canada but our exchange rate is so ridiculous right now that it's too expensive.
I used to keep photos in an Iris container like the one mentioned above, but I did Library of Memories and got rid of it - now I'm regretting it!! It looks perfect for embellishments.

I scrapbook at one end of our living room and utilize the DR table for my Cricut.
We recently put in hardwood floors and painted, so I had to empty everything out. I got in the habit of purging as I go - when I see something in my stash I no longer love, I put in in a donate box. I still have too much stuff, so I decided to keep my Iris cases of embellishments in our lower level. It's less convenient, but my scrap area looks SO much better and I have more room to work. So now, if I am doing a hockey layout, I go down and grab the sports case and bring it up. I wish I had a closet in my area!
