Hugs. This is tough for all of you. You're making your decisions based on good advice and instincts. Be at peace with it.

I am so sorry for this rough time that your family is facing. Please draw on the resources available -- hospice nurses, doctors and chaplains can be wonderful supports. If there is a grief counselor available, that's another very useful professional who is equipped to hear all that you or your mother may need to say and to give you a positive framework for organizing your thoughts and feelings.

(((Hugs))) We had to make a similar decision about my MIL who has ovarian cancer and has Alzheimer's and is in a nursing home. It was hard to make the decision not to treat the cancer, but the oncologist said that if it were his mother, he wouldn't. She doesn't know us any more and wouldn't understand that she had cancer, nor why we were putting her through surgeries and chemo. Sometimes it is more humane to make someone more comfortable and add more quality to the time they have left, rather than painfully extending the number of days.

Sending you hugs and prayers. My grandfather had Parkinson's Dementia, and passed last year. While he didn't have cancer, there were a host of other health problems that he had that we treated as needed but none of them were major. I agree with others that you should find out what the severity of the cancer is before you start making decisions. Has your family joined a support group for caregivers? The National Parkinson's Foundation has resources that could help you find these services in your area. The Department of Aging in your city can help as well. www.parkinson.org/find-help/resources-in-your-communityThe Michael J. Fox Foundation also offers plenty of articles and information to read as well.
