We're very proud to be hosting this year and I think the opening ceremony was fantastic! With apologies to ScrapsontheRocks the game between S. Africa and Japan was a real nailbiter! That's only the beginning though I'm not knowledgeable about rugby at all but I'm catching the fever that spreading here

Not particularly, but I am having fun with photos posted on twitter. It looks like the Olympics, the Superbowl and huge drunken party all rolled into one event.

That's only the beginning though I'm not knowledgeable about rugby at all but I'm catching the fever that spreading here No apologies necessary- the Boks had poor discipline last night and they made a heap of mistakes. Japan played a great game, refused to settle for a draw right there at the end where they could have kicked but decided to run the ball and they deserved to win! I am not that knowledgeable either but my husband is and I watched with him. On a side note I despise our coach. Eddie Jones, the Welsh coach for Japan, should be very proud. The ceremony was great and the Brits can be very proud indeed. Enjoy!

I hope to pick up more knowledge as we go along - I just really enjoy the atmosphere of play so much more than football (which is probably on in my house more than football) which seems to be full of wussies who fall over at the drop of a hat and pretend every little bump is agony. These guys can teach them a lesson or two! Hope you enjoy it too

Daughter is involved in the planning of the Rugby World Cup matches being played in this area so she decided I ought to have some armchair supporters gear! Hoping I might be able to go along with her to see the South Africa v Scotland match here in early October.

Oh that's neat and at Twickenham too! Bet he was a bit relieved when the opening ceremony was over though and all had gone well with the lighting.....there were so many special effects used! Yes, as you say, it's great fun to have the extra connection gar!

Love Rugby but we have very little relevant coverage here in the US. The big matches are PPV (which we refuse to do) and the other matches are USA versus (fill in the blank). I did see there was a bit of controversy about the England fans singing through the Fiji cibi. Seriously I have seen two teams square up for their "war dance" ritual so I don't really see it as any different. I'm all for England but have a soft spot for the All Blacks.

So even though you're competing it doesn't get much seen by many? That's a shame, it's a great game.

She is the Emergency Planner for the NHS for this region and Cumbria and works with all the Emergency Services, so is also involved in all big events making sure that all needed/maybe needed medical facilities and services are planned for and that roads are kept open to the local hospitals etc. She loves it....... it can be stressful sometimes because the plans have to be absolutely right....like the lighting....and she always breathes a sigh of relief when it all works well for an event.

What a responsible job! I bet she does - a job well done is always a relief Event/TV lighting is a pretty small industry and if you screw up word gets around pretty quickly but if it goes well it's a great addition to your CV.

The lighting at the Opening Ceremony was excellent - we commented about how good it was during the ceremony - so that must be lovely big plus addition to his CV, he will be pleased about that. Is he going to be involved in all the lighting for the games played at Twickenham and the closing ceremony?

Isn't this the same sport that gave us those WONDERFUL photos of the young man leaning over a sink a few years ago? I remember those photos really well not just for obvious reasons, but because someone also posted the way he had looked on the playing field. Apparently he had not shaved the entire season and he looked like a Sassquatch. The reveal, though, was very revealing, to say the least.

Love rugby but being a northern lass it's rugby league, not union I watch. Vaguely similar but very different. I try watching rugby league at times but as you say, it's similar but very different - I always get confused about what is happening and why! My relatives have given up on me because they all watch League.

I think he will be doing all the Twickenham evening games but I haven't heard anything about the closing ceremony yet. It's all been a bit chaotic apparently with ITV having control over some parts, Twickenham themselves controlling others, the 'event management' people in charge of other parts and none of them wanting to relinquish their say over each other's areas......a bit of a power struggle to say the least at times!

With apologies to ScrapsontheRocks the game between S. Africa and Japan was a real nailbiter! Yes, I saw the result on my FB feed and the first person I thought of was ScrapsontheRocks! To be honest, I'm not particularly interested in the Rugby World Cup at the moment. My true love is Aussie Rules football, and my team is only 2 wins away from winning their third premiership in a row. All my attention is on my Hawks boys. That's cool BarbaraUK! My DD's partner was lighting the opening ceremony at Twickenham - it's fun to have an extra connection isn't it Wow, very cool!!

Pretty much it is also on a subscription channel so it is completely random if your TV service actually gets the channel as well. I real shame.
