It has been my experience that mental health nurses are some of the most compassionate people I have ever met. I've only had to be hospitalized once, but I needed it. I know when the paranoid thoughts start that I am very close to breaking with reality altogether so I totally think you are doing the right thing. And it is scary, for him. But this is really the best place for him right now until he stabilizes somewhat. I am sending you big hugs because this isn't easy at all. I'm sure you are frightened and worried. If I can offer you any comfort, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I've almost been there before, so I can completely relate to about half of what you're dealing with. I'm glad he went, and that he's relatively OK with it. This is a very hopeful sign to me, that he knows and is willing to get help and get on the right track. Hugs to you all.

Even if he feels betrayed right now, which is normal in this instance, he'll be so much better off in the long run. He'll get much needed therapy, evals and the appropriate meds for his illness. Bipolar disorder isn't one size fits all. There may be other issues as well. The staff will take good care of your son and w/treatment you'll have a much healthier and stable son who will be happy to see you when he's discharged. Big mama hugs coming at ya'. This. I wish my MIL had done this with my BIL. Would have saved everyone a lot of pain. As hard as it is, you are being a great mom.

I'm so sorry. You've had it rough the last few years with your family. I pray for strength for you and hope things start to get better for all if you.

Hang in there, Mama! You are doing a good job. One day your son will be so thankful that you made hard decisions so he could get better.

I am so sorry you have to go through this. Our Dd was 19 when she was hospitalized 5 times. My mantra was that there would be a new normal. 12 years later she is a productive, young lady who is a wonderful mother to a 6 yo. Every so often life gets tough and I secretly worry that she will relapse. Don't forget to take care of yourself and family at home as well.

Love that he sang for you! And I agree about a new normal in your future. I'm betting, though, that if a new normal includes a happy, healthy son, you'll welcome it!
