Oh, (((Sarah))), I'm so sorry to hear about Trixie. From what you've already done, it does sound like maybe she slipped out. Hopefully she's find her way home sooner than later. Please continue to keep us posted.

We had a cat who had been abused, so was always hiding after we adopted her. She actually tore a hole in the drywall in the closet under the stairs (it's like a big 'V' and she went all the way back to the point to make the hole, so it was a bear to get to) and was living inside our walls. There was no way to get to her without tearing out the wall, so we had to wait until she got hungry enough to come out and look for food!

I had a cat once - also feral, but still a kitten - who somehow managed to get into a basement closet and climb up into the rafters and then fell or crawled down behind the drywall elsewhere in the basement. It was three days before we found him (and had to cut through the drywall to get him out). He was dehydrated, but otherwise OK.
Cats can end up in some crazy places.
I hope she turns up soon.

A friend's cat somehow managed to get up into the vent above her stove. Not sure how in the world she managed that, but she did. They had to dismantle the entire wall to get her out. Once out, she acted like "what are YOU looking at? I was just resting and you disturbed me" No appreciation at all!! Hope your baby is found soon.

I have ransacked the house. I tore apart the beds, took all the drawers out of the dressers and opened every single suitcase. I checked inside all the boots, the hats & mittens bin and every bookcase. I pulled out all of the clothes in the closets in case she was hiding on top or in between something hanging. DS searched every nook and cranny of the furnace room and garage. I'm at my wits end but am starting to believe that somehow, she did get out. If she died in one of the vents, surely we would smell something by now. We're going to set the trap outside tonight. This sounds so stressful. I'm really sorry. I would be really upset and worried too.

I hope she turns up soon. Our cat has went missing a few times. Eventually he will meow & then we track him down. Once he got shut up in the master bathroom, once he was in my daughter's closet and once he somehow got outside & was hiding under a rose bush in our front yard.

{{{{Sarah}}}} I know you are worried for Trixie, but she is a survivor. I hope she returns, comes out of hiding or can be lured home today sometime. I am still hoping for a happy outcome. Good luck.

I'm so sorry Trixie is missing. I do hope she turns up. I would get wet cans of cat food and put them around the outside of your house and then in the inside. The smell might make her come out of hiding. That's what I do. All I need is to open the can and scrape the cover and the cat miraculously appears from wherever she has been hiding.

We're bringing in a plumber to stick a camera down the HVAC duct we think she might be in.

Sending prayers and good thoughts that you find her soon! The anxiety of not knowing what happened to a pet is terrible.

I hope you find her safe and sound. How awesome that you found someone willing to do that for you. And kudos to the person who had that idea, it would have never occured to me.

Poor you and poor kitty! One of our cats was formerly feral and he took to hiding on top of the kitchen cabinets. He still does it now and can not been seen from ground level. He is so quick and quiet too, I can be looking on one side and he'll have jumped down and gone somewhere else without me hearing him. He is like a shadow. Even when I know where he is I can sometimes not see him, if that makes any sense. Fingers crossed that you find her safe and well very soon!

We're bringing in a plumber to stick a camera down the HVAC duct we think she might be in. That's what I was thinking as I was reading this thread, if you are really sure she might be in one, those duct cleaning places have cameras they can snake around to show you the before and after. I sure hope you find her soon and she is safe and sound. You have been a real blessing to her and Dobby.

Ack! I've followed the Trixie/Dobbie story from the start. I'm sick about this, but I agree that if something really bad happened you'd probably smell it by now. Cats never cease to amaze me with their ability to hide. Another vote for box springs. I've also now had two that got on top of a dresser that was placed kitty-corner (LOL) across a corner so that each side of the dresser touched the wall. Cat jumped down behind and then couldn't get enough clearance to jump back up and out. Another was sick and found all sorts of spots. I have a bar in the basement that had sort of a false back, and she got back behind those few inches. She also somehow worked her way through a teeny tiny hole into a closet I used almost never (holiday storage). 7 months after she passed away, I went to decorate and found a pile of cat hair where she slept (to be clear, she didn't pass there, just crawled in and out to hide and shed a lot). Same one worked through a too-big hole for the dryer vent hose and got into the surround of my bathroom whirlpool tub. She was a master.
Please do keep us updated on Trixie. Fingers crossed.

I hope you find her safe & sound. I take it no litter box use last night either?
Does Dobby act concerned at all, or is it business as usual for him? Is he very bonded with Trixie to where you might expect him to show some distress with her gone?

She is in the duct work and so far, she's still alive but they haven't been able to get to her. She keeps moving farther in. We've torn out a good part of the ceiling and duct so far but she is not cooperating.

Is there any way to get to the duct work behind her location and block her from moving further in? Can you coax her to you with food or water?
