She is in the duct work and so far, she's still alive but they haven't been able to get to her. She keeps moving farther in. We've torn out a good part of the ceiling and duct so far but she is not cooperating. OMG! PLEASE let us know when you can...I hope she will be okay..is there a rescue group you can call to assist...maybe they have some ideas? How stressful! Can you get food/water down to her while trying?

OMGoodness. Poor kitty is probably terrified. I hope you are able to get her out safely. I can't imagine having to tear out the ceiling and ductwork. That's an awful lot of work.

Hope you are able to get her out. How worrisome for you, but it will be worth it in the end when she is safe again.

Aww, poor terrified Trixie! I'm glad you know where she is and hope this turns out well for you, Trixie, your family, and any handymen who might be within a claw's reach. Sending you lots of positive safe kitty thoughts!

Would it help to put your other kitties in a room for the night and remove the rest of the vent covers through the house. Maybe she will come out through one of them when it gets quiet tonight. I hope that she comes out and will be okay. Is there someone that she trust more than others that might be able to talk to her softly and coax her to come out? I am sorry that your attempts so far have been unsuccessful. There are stories of cats being locked up in moving trucks and other closed up spaces, for days and the cats have survived. Don't give up. You are an amazing person to care for this cat like you do. She is lucky to be a part of your family.

Once you get Dobby and the other cats safely locked up, try dimming the lights as much as possible and just leave a nightlight or lamp near the hole. Take the duct covers off and put a spoonful or so of food in various places near the duct covers so she can smell them. Once the house is calm and quiet, she may work herself out.
So close and yet so far, but don't give up yet.
If there an attic or any other way to get access to the duct work?
You might also see if there is a wildlife removal service in your area - sometimes they have specialized equipment for working in tight spaces. We had a squirrel get trapped inside a wall and they were able to locate it with a microphone and then drill a hole for it to get out.

Don't give up, we had a cat who was gone 11 days. He suddenly reappeared limping home on a dislocated shoulder. The vet thought he may have gotten himself caught in something and dislocated it getting free.
We had another cat who disappeared for a week and returned a bit skinnier, but fine. So they can go without food/water for longer than you'd think. Hopefully she'll decide to come through one of the new holes in your duct work.

I hated to see that update Sarah H. My heart goes out to you and to your kitty. That must be so hard knowing she's up there and not being able to help her!!

Poor puss. The good thing is that you know where she is. Maybe once everywhere is quiet for a while she will venture out for something to eat. The hardest part is leaving it so she feels she can come out. If Dobby was in a carrier or a cage, would she come out to him?

OMG---this is crazy--that poor kitty, I hope she comes out not only for her sake but yours as well. That would be awful to have to a kitten in your furnace.
Good Luck--come out little Trixie.

Even if the worst were to happen, you gave Trixie a safe place to have her kitten. You more than likely saved Dobby's life.
Ypu've seriously done everything you could.

Oh Sarah. I am so sorry to hear this. In some ways, I am glad you know where she is, but how heartbreaking to know and not be able to get her. I feel so badly for you because I know how hard you have tried to make her feel safe and loved. I feel so badly for Trixie, she must be so uncomfortable and so scared. How terrible for her. I wish there was someway for her to understand that you just want to take care of her and for her to feel safe! I am so glad Doby will never know anything but love and care from you. I am still hoping there will be a happy resolution.

I am so very sorry to hear this update. You've done so much for her...the effort that your family has given is extraordinary and I know a lot of people that love animals, but I know very few who would've gone to the effort that you guys did.
Dobby is a success...and because of your initial persistence with Trixie, you have Dobby.
I am heartbroken for Trixie...but also for you because I can only imagine how troubled you are.
You are a good egg, Sarah.

I've found a pest control service that has an infrared camera. If she doesn't come out tonight, I'll call him in the morning.

Awwwww poor Trixie. Could you put strong smelling food in a raccoon trap? I hope you have a good outcome soon. I would have such a stomach ache worrying about her.
