Nope- don't need anything else to dust. And my live peace lily is a PIA.

the others were a vase of hydrangeas and they looked fabulous My mother-in-law has the hydrangeas that she uses on her breakfast table and they look so real, I have to touch them every time to be sure. I don't have any artificial flowers. If I want flowers, I'll cut something from the yard or pick up a bouquet at the grocery store. Or - like @peano - I'll use some items from nature like seed pods, moss, pretty weeds, sea shells, and other items to add to a table centerpiece.

Never artificial in the house but I have been known to stick them in my garden. From a distance you can't tell they are fake. My neighbor does this too, plus she has all types of fake in her house.

OMG, there is a house that I pass almost every day on my way to the grocery store and they have tons of plastic flowers in their front flower beds. It is so obvious they are plastic and look ridiculous. I'm sure yours are better.

No. I just don't see the point. If you want flowers get flowers and if you just want something to decorate with I think there are much more interesting things to decorate with. They just seem meaningless to me. The things I decorate my home with all have meaning to me - things that belonged to my great-grandparents or my husband's great-grandparents; things we have collected on travels; etc. Well, it's not like I have 27 different types of silk flowers throughout my house. I have family heirlooms too but one small container of carefully selected stems in beautiful fall colors that I put out from late September until I decorate for Christmas. Works for me. But that's fine if that isn't your cup of tea. Sorry that you don't SEE our point.

Good quality artificial flowers/greenery cost several times more than fresh flowers. For example, a bouquet of roses at Walmart might cost around $10 but a SINGLE quality artificial rose (not found in JoAnn Fabrics or Michael's type stores) can cost $10-20 or considerably more each. If you are judging artificial flowers on what you see at Hobby Lobby and the like, you are not actually educated on the subject. How do I know this, I know it because I have over 25 years experience as a florist and buyer and see the WIDE range of quality at international buying markets. There are artificials that are your dollar store variety and artificials so fine, there are no retail stores around me that sell them!! Do I have artificials in my home, no. I love the FEEL of fresh, alive flowers, branches, pine cones, etc..etc..
As far as weddings, I would never ever use artificial flowers for a one day event myself. I have done it many times, but do not like it. haha A good quality artificial bridal bouquet would cost so much more than fresh and what would you do with it after??
Added..... I want to say that I have many customers that LOVE artificial flowers. The biggest seller are wreaths!! You can make AMAZINGLY realistic fall wreaths with twigs, berries, and leaves and simply stunning pine wreaths that look gorgeous on front doors and such. Also, many, many people have artificial pine trees at Christmas. I do not, but can respect and serve those who do.

I only put one or two in plants that you only see from a distance and only do that occasionally for a splash of color when nothing is blooming. But I have another crazy mother story. My mother has a black thumb. When I was a kid we had the front of the house remodeled and had planters and window boxes put in. She couldn't get anything to grow in them so she bought a bunch of plastic flowers and put them in the window boxes. This was the 1950s and all artificial flowers were plastic. Within a couple of weeks the sun had bleached the plastic flowers white so my mom painted them all pink.

I do. But I also have two cats that eat anything and everything live that I bring in the house. So, I have a beautiful artificial philodendron arrangement on the stereo in the living room...which one cat even chewed on!... along with a very nice large plant (I forget what it is) on the floor, next to an end table, and a lovely hyrdrangea vaseful on my dresser. They look great! A house without plants/flowers looks absolutely bereft and dreary!

I do have some fall decor with artificial flowers & leaves, but otherwise, no, I don't use them in my home. However, we decorated with & carried artificial flowers at my wedding, because a church full of real flowers would have made a mess of me due to allergies.

Coincidentally.....I have fake orchids and fake hydrangeas, lol! I pick up some cut flowers from time to time as well. I don't do potted plants/flowers, they are so needy, and I always kill them.

I lived through the aftificial greenery everywhere 90s so I don't really like lots of flowers and plants everywhere. I have two plants in my home and they are in a perpetually dying state. Someday they will kick the bucket, but in the meantime they look terrible. But, hey, they are real!
I do have one medium sized peony bouquet on my piano. I couldn't find anything else I liked for that spot. It works and I certainly couldn't afford to keep a bouquet constantly on my piano. Yes, real is better, but not everyone can afford to buy flowers all the time. (And yes, I'm talking grocery store flowers. My husband is under strict instructions to never buy me florist flowers because they cost so much I could never enjoy them.)

I was a florist before I had children.
There is a time and place for silk flowers and high-quality arrangements of non-living florals.
There is a time and place for fresh florals.
Some silks look like crap and some fresh won't last a day before they too look like crap.
The magic is to know when to use what.

As a previous poster said the really nice silk flowers are pricey. A friend of mine had some hydrangeas and they were gorgeous. $24.00 per stem!
I buy fresh bunches of flowers at trader Joe's or the grocery or cut things from my yard.
My MIL, bless her heart, puts really gaudy ones in hanging baskets around her pool. You know what? She forgets to water real ones and she likes them so that's all that matters.

Traditionally not a fan, but I did a double-take at Costco just yesterday. They had a large selection of arrangements of artificial flowers so realistic looking that I had a hard time convincing myself that they were not real! Gorgeous! They were in lovely pots and varied in size. Prices I saw were between $70-230. I thought of our church, where we buy fresh flowers for the altar table every week. We have a small congregation and a small budget... and I think these might be just right. A lot of them were orchids.

Does the big vase of paper flowers my kids all made through pre-school count? You know the tissue paper tied with a pipe cleaner.

No artificial flowers for me. I guess I haven't seen these high quality ones you speak of, because all that comes to mind are the fake blooms with too vivid colors that soon become dust traps.
I have a large garden, so we have fresh flowers up through mid-fall. I take flowers from the garden into work when I can. The kids always do a double take..."Those are real? They look so pretty, I thought they were fake!" A compliment, I guess?!

By and large, nay. I do have one bunch of hydrangeas only because I can't get dried ones that are that vibrant.

I have seen many fake flowers that look very realistic to a point where I'm fooled. I've also seen many that were realistic but were covered in dust, giving away the fact they were indeed fake. And then there's those fake colored ones or oversized or really obviously fake, no matter if it's dust-free or not.
For some reason, I just cannot do fake in my house. It's just another thing to dust. I used fake flowers for my wedding, mostly because I wanted something bright and funky. Those flowers currently sit in the vase of colored sand the 4 of us poured as part of our ceremony. Those are the only fake flowers I'll have. Otherwise, I don't care for them.

My mother, the master gardener and plant grower extrodinaire, would make all kinds of frowny faces if I had fake any kind of plant in my house. On the other hand, she knows that I kill every thing green thing I touch. So the solution is to avoid the subject altogether. So not fake flowers/greenery and no live plants. Every once in a blue moon I get flowers from someone or another and try like crazy to keep them looking good for longer than an hour or two.

I have a short clear glass vase with rocks and seasonally changed fake flowers in the middle of my kitchen table. That's it for fake flowers. I'd love to have real ones but we don't have a florist in town and if I'm in the city shopping and somewhere with flowers and it isn't my last stop it's usually too hot or cold to leave them in the car. Besides they are really expensive here so I can't afford them all the time, fake ones never wilt.
Michaels has so many arrangements, vases, centerpieces, wreaths all the time, every season. WHO is buying all these flowers? Where are they storing them?

WHO is buying all these flowers? Where are they storing them? Many of my clients for silks and non-living arrangement were people who live in retirement communities and can't necessarily get out often enough to buy fresh flowers. They were often looking to add color and nature to their rooms without burdening the resident w having to care for a live plant or fresh flowers. There were also many people purchasing floral arrangements for placing seasonally at the cemetery.

Michaels and other craft stores have different kinds of artificials. Some are amazing and others are cheap and look like blue roses.
I don't get why it's not ok to have artificials if you like them. Why do you care what other people do?
I also wouldn't not have something that brings me joy just because someone would make fun of me or give me a hard time.
I'd tell them to go pound sand.
