I am in the nay camp but plead guilty to a different abomination; we placed a fake, 15 inch tall beaded aloe on my late FIL's grave because he loved one he saw at a game reserve the last time he was here.

one of my great gradnmothers had a bouquet of faded plastic roses on her mantelpice that she regularly washed! I have a fake bromeliad that fools everyone-often bromeliads and the like look fake even when they are real. I also have real houseplants Some are better fakes than others. I could never have fake roses to wash though!! HA!!

While I agree that fake flowers/plants have improved over the years, there's just no getting around the fact that no matter how good they look you can always tell they are fake. And if per chance you missed that fact the first time around, the second time you see them in exactly the same place looking exactly the same, several weeks later - then it's obvious. I love flowers out in nature, not a fan of cut flowers, therefore a bunch of fake, 'cut' flowers in a vase with fake water in it is not appealing at all. I'd rather have a live plant of some sort than anything fake. But since the various cats over the years have destroyed all the live plants, I only have one left (a small one on a shelf she can't get to). I'd rather do without than have fake and I still can't quite get over the feeling they are cheap (even though I know some of them aren't) and a bit nana.

I have tons of beautiful, thriving real plants. I also have both silk and dried flowers in a few different areas in my house. They are good quality and I love the way they look. For the people who are so down on them, I guarantee there's something in your house that other people think is tacky. To each his own.

A house near us used to be the artificial plant graveyard. It was an older woman's house and she was always adding stuff. Every plant but the grass was fake. She even had about 15 bent up old artificial Christmas trees "planted" in the yard. It was sad because you knew she was as trying so hard, but it looked like a disaster. (Add in a ton of religious statues and birdhouses etc to get a more accurate mental picture) It was odd to drive by in winter and see all of these plastic flowers blooming in the snow. I don't care for artificial plants because I am reminded of her, but agree that they have come a looong way in recent years.

I don't mind them. I have some Halloween, fall, and Christmas arrangements that I put out on my dining room table.
The dusting thing isn't really a problem for me, I just take them outside and use one of those spray cans of air that you use for cleaning computers. The arrangements are not large so 2 quick sprays and they are dust free.

No, never would. I don't see the point of them. Personally, I'd rather have a different ornament than a fake plant or flower. Plus, no matter how realistic they look, silk flowers always remind me of the dusty things you used to see in the doctor/dentist waiting room back in the 80s

Added..... I want to say that I have many customers that LOVE artificial flowers. The biggest seller are wreaths!! You can make AMAZINGLY realistic fall wreaths with twigs, berries, and leaves and simply stunning pine wreaths that look gorgeous on front doors and such. Also, many, many people have artificial pine trees at Christmas. I do not, but can respect and serve those who do. Funny to see people that would never have artificial flowers have artificial trees I don't have artificial flowers only because I hate dusting and dh has a green thumb. But I do know there are some very pretty, very realistic looking artificials.

I don't have any artificial plants. I do have an artificial Christmas Tree.
We have only one live plant due to lack of table and counter space and the fact that I do not nurture plants very well.
I would consider an artificial centerpiece for my dining room table if I saw an amazing one.

NAY!!! I dislike them, no matter how good they look... and would never have them in my house--perhaps an arrangement that would sit out on the front step during the holidays, but never inside the house. Fake or real, the cats would probably chew on them regardless. And fake ones are just something more to get dusty. With the dust that somehow always creeps in through the closed windows from the desert, I don't need to add any more dust-collectors to the collection of 'stuff' that we have already.
(There is a fake ficus tree in our office at work- in the corner behind my desk, actually- and I loathe the thing with a passion-- the leaves are just coated with dust, and I would like nothing more than to get rid of the thing altogether. It takes up space, and I'm afraid to get too close to it for fear of releasing a cloud of dust.)

I used to, but the dust factor led to me throwing them away. I will buy those that look very fake (like burlap) and use them for party centerpieces. I have seen some arrangements with decorator's stems that are incredibly gorgeous, but they are way out of my price range.
I still have some outdoor wreaths with fake flowers (or faux botanicals, as Pottery Barn likes to call them) that I use, but I am slowly getting rid of them. They get grungy and gross after a few seasons of use.

No because they have to be dusted and I have enough to dust!

I have ones similar to these hot pink ones: Fake pink flowersI love these new "modern" fake flowers - its obvious they're fake, they're more just accent pieces, but they are so pretty and cheerful you can't help but smile. I'm not trying to fool anyone into thinking they're real, they're just nice to look at and brighten up the place. The blue ones here are another good example: blue fake flowers

I've never been a fan of artificial flowers, but I do have some fake autumn leaves decorating my dining room.
