I've always disliked artificial flowers whether they were fabric, plastic or anything else but twice recently I have complimented my friend on her gorgeous flowers only for her to smile and tell me they weren't real. So it seems they are much more realistic these days.
One was an orchid and the others were a vase of hydrangeas and they looked fabulous! I'm sure they weren't cheap ones so you probably get what you pay for.
So - do you, or would you, have artificial blooms in your home?

I do, because for some mysterious reason, every plant that comes into my home die within days. I'm pretty good with my outdoor plants, but I suspect the indoor plants die because I'm never able to understand which plants needs x amount of water/sunlight/shade/whatever or which plants need y, or maybe it's an evil form of plant killing magic. I'm sure the local florist need to restock whenever I have been there....all her plants are probably dead within hours.

No for me. I love the smell of fresh cut flowers and the fact that they don't last long enough to need dusting .

Yes, I use the silk artificial blooms in big displays in my fireplaces.

No I don't, but my Mum has some beautifully realistic sweet peas that always get mistaken for the real thing.

Yes, silk flowers have come a long way! I have a beautiful fall arrangement on my living room coffee table that I get compliments on all the time.

Yes! They have come a long way in looking more realistic. Plus they don't die due to lack of appropriate light so I can have greenery/blooms in places that wouldn't support a live plant and I don't have to worry about watering if I am gone for a couple of weeks.

We are so pathetic we have an artificial tree in the house. There is a plant in the kitchen that a) my mom didn't kill, b ) my dad ignores and c) I haven't killed yet. The two *beautiful* orchid plants that are alive (barely) and are in the orchid hospital at the neighbour's house. We are all about artificial plants and flowers I am afraid!

Yes, in my areas where I decorate I like to have nice (but not cheap looking) artificial flowers, but in my kitchen I like real flowers!

Interesting I always thought of them as ugly dust traps but I was genuinely surprised at how good they can look these days. I don't have any at the moment but I'm not against the idea any more if I wanted some for a particular area that wasn't flower friendly or wanted a variety that I would probably kill quite quickly BUT I would make sure I was vigilant about dusting them

I don't have the energy to dust fake flowers or plants so there are none in my house ... I don't have living plants either because I can't keep them alive

I do not, mostly because I don't want to deal with dusting them, but I agree that artificial flowers can be very convincing!

Yes. I have a big wooden decoupaged vase full of giant fake colored daisies that I made to decorate a trade show booth that now lives in my bedroom, a potted fake sweet pea plant in my master bath that the former owners of the house left there for us, and a vase of fake flowers that I gave to my mom to decorate her little "apartment" at the nursing home she was in before she died that I keep in my studio to remind me of her. But none of these are in the public areas of my house so we're the only people who see them.

I don't have them in my home (but would, just haven't come across an arrangement I like to keep out all the time), but I used artificial flowers for my wedding bouquets/boutonnieres and havery absolutely no regrets about that. Loved them, photographed great, easy to get done ahead, and about 75% cheaper than live flowers would have been.

Never artificial in the house but I have been known to stick them in my garden. From a distance you can't tell they are fake.

Sorry, my feelings as well. They make me feel sad, personally if I can't grow them or get a bouquet from hubby...I don't want them (real ones). I think I equate them as old, my personal feelings.

After looking through the book The Secret Life Of Plants and watching more of the movie than I read of the book I will always only have real plants. I might use fake for art projects or something so I don't kill any off. But fake plants don't give off oxygen and have a different vibe to me. I was in Costco and saw a display of real sheepskin rugs next to a display of fake orchids. I wished that was reversed

No.
I just don't see the point. If you want flowers get flowers and if you just want something to decorate with I think there are much more interesting things to decorate with.
They just seem meaningless to me.
The things I decorate my home with all have meaning to me - things that belonged to my great-grandparents or my husband's great-grandparents; things we have collected on travels; etc.

I have some topiaries on my fireplace mantle that are made of dried boxwood leaves which I absolutely love.
I probably wouldn't buy any artificial flowers, just because I lived through the eighties and got really sick of all the silk flowers in colors not found in nature.
Plus, fresh flowers are so cheap at places like Trader Joe's, I don't feel guilty buying fresh every week.

I kill every green thing that comes into the house. If I get real flowers, I forget to refresh the water, and only throw them out when I notice an odd smell. I love fresh flowers, but artificial ones might be a better idea for me. I did have a small vase with a single white rose in it that came from M&S years ago. It was beautiful, and I used to rinse it under the tap every few weeks rather than dust it. I have no idea what happened to it...

Care to say why, out of interest? Sure. I'm a nature girl--it is holy to me. I prefer live plants--those I have a lot of. As I've gotten older, my taste in decor has gotten more streamlined and I love to display things I find on my walks--feathers, besutiful seed pods, wild flowers, birds nests etc--judiciously I don't just want to plop a garland above my kitchen cabinets to collect dust.

peano - thanks I get that! I will just say - one of those hideous garlands languishing up on top of cupboards is exactly what I hated in 'the old days' but I haven't seen one of them in years thankfully!
